“Great Trip, Fantastic Beach, Good time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

I have been there for the second time with Max Tours. Their catamaran is quite large and the that makes the trip very comfortable. Snorkeling, lobster barbecue, starfish and lot of fun. The 3 y.o.boys with us had a lot of fun. Playa del Canto is really beautiful. Do not spend all your time in the all inclusive. The D.R. is beautiful, go out and explore. Everybody was professional but super friendly and fun at the same time.

“Crowded”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

The island and all around it are beatiful, but the excursion has many points to evaluate. If you like to be by yourself, or to be calm to apreciate the nature don't go. First of all, the bus stop at many other hotels to pick up people. When you arrive to take the boat to go to the island, you will see lots of people doing the same thing. So, you will go in a crowded boat with a poor quality sound, listenng salsa & merengue full time. There, they served lunch outdors, in plastic dishes, and for a crowd. Besides, you can't go back when you want to, you must wait , because it's an excursion. Apart from that, the place itself is beatiful.

“Best part of the trip was when it ended!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Perhaps we booked with the wrong crew but our's was very unprofessional and totally unprepared operation. I wasn't even aware of the name of the company or even who the Capt. was. No one spoke any English (and I am somewhat limited in Spanish). Nevertheless, the toilets on the catamaran never flushed because no one knew how to use them (obviously). It was a continuous 2+ hour drinking and dancing party enroute to the island, and when we finally arrived my first impression of the private island was of a garbage dump. This was a small island shared by several groups with no activities (volleyball, soccer) planned. The water was filthy, with trash floating atop, bottle caps throughout the sand and on the bottom of the ocean floor. There was so much seaweed, it was hard to avoid it at all costs. The visibility was terrible, forget it if you wanted to attempt to snorkel, there wasn't anything but trash or seaweed to maneuver around.
We were served a buffet lunch, which was sufficient but nothing out of the ordinary chicken and fish with fruit. There were two bathrooms on the island - but only one worked...that is until they decided the party was over and turned off all the water on the island - including water to wash your hands! If guess that was our clue that it was time to desert the island. So the small speed boats came but when it came to pass out the life preservers, they were short quite a few. I could tell that left a few parents with little ones a little apprehensive! When our boat shut down suddenly after a few attempts the "Capt." got it started again, I just hoped we'd just keep going and avoid the scenic route, just in case the boat broke down for good. Enroute back to the Hotel, we passed another boat that had been part of our group that had run out of gas but we couldn't be of any help, obviously!!!
After $140 for two people and 6 hours later, I was never so happy to return to the hotel. Perhaps if you like to party, drink and dance on the ocean aboard a catamaran this may be for you, because that's the only attraction that this excursion seem to offer.

“Totally fits with what tourists want from the Caribbeans”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Boat ride, blue transparent waters, reaggeton and bachata, rum (lots), beach and tan.
For a day of fun, it's perfect.

If you're with a tour, I guess you don't get to bargain the prices, but I went by myself, with a friend, we managed to get the tour for 1200 pesos each, plus 100 for the entry to the reservation. If you speak spanish but you don't look dominican, it's the kind of prices you should pay.

Different companies go to different beaches, the one I ended up on was pretty, but have dead corals on the floor everywhere, hurts the feet a little bit. But they're not all like that.

Definitely a nice trip, but I think once is enough.

“SAONA VIP PLUS”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

A TRUE CARIBBEAN PARADISE,the most visited virgin place in the last decade.
in this excursion, there is simply a combination of landscapes and tropical colors along with coconuts And ENDLESS WHITE SAND BEACHES .
saona island , MEETS ALL THE CONDITIONS to be described as, QUASI-MANDATORY for visitors in the dominican republic.THIS TRIP has all the emotions together, from the begining when you get on the popular katamaran,to the stop at the warm water in the natural swiming pool and also refreshing stop because once we jump in the water, at the so called natural swiming pool the speed boat crew turns the boat into a floating bar serving soft drinks and even rhum and soda, Without neglecting. - Mangroves, EXOTIC BIRDS AS pelicans and frigates among other birds , when you go to saona island you can dive in the calmest water, but ALSO you can get in touch with THE STARFISH AND maybe witness a dolfin show and flying fish.
Clear water , blues, turquoises MIXED WITH WHITE SAND BOTTOM ACTING AS A CARPET TO YOUR FEET, soana , is a must.
