No visit to San Pedro de Macoris is complete without a visit to "El Malecon", the boulevard and seaside boardwalk of San Pedro de Macoris.
The Dominican singer and songwriter Juan Luis Guerra sings about the Malecon in his song Guavaberry "I like to song my song... in the middle of Malecon... drinking my guavaberry, watching the sun go down..." and if you want to get a taste of local life, this is the place to be.
In the morning and afternoons the Malecon is very quiet when mostly locals are walking here or jogging in the fresh sea breeze, many young baseball players meet here to do their exercises.

Starting at about five o'clock in the evening the Malecon streams full with locals and on Sundays especially the whole day, people meet and sit outside, many bring their whole families.

There is also a "parque infantil" a large playground, specially for children and guarded off from the rest of the Malecon.
