Only 23 km south of Puerto Plata, just outside of the town of Imbert, there is a magnificent set of natural pools and falls called, 27 Charcos (or 27 Waterfalls). This family adventure destination has made many great improvements and is definitely worth the trip. The tour begins with a 20-minute walk through lush forest to the first of 27 crystal clear levels of pools and waterfalls. With the help of knowledgeable, local guides, visitors climb and swim up each level of waterfalls and through the channels carved out by the Rio Damajagua.
Tours climb up to the 7th, 12th, or 27th waterfall and then return the same way by jumping, swimming and sliding down natural waterslides. In fall of 2006, a palm roofed visitor center was completed with a large reception area, small restaurant, beverage bar, gift shop, and bathrooms. Also, unique about the waterfalls is that one dollar of every entrance fee is directly invested into community projects and local schools.
