“Very relaxing week”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

We spent the first week of June in Puerto Plata in the Lifestyle Holiday Vacation Club Crown Suites. We traveled with two 17 yr old boys, who really enjoyed the trip. This place is maintained on a level only seen at Disneyland and Disneyworld. They are constantly grooming the grounds. The staff was very pleasant.

We had the penthouse with 2bdrm and 2ba. Our terrace was spectacular with views of the pool and ocean. The condo however was not air conditioned throughout, just the bedrooms. Be very careful with the showers in the bathroom as there is not separate shower and therefore the floor in the bathroom gets wet. I unfortunately slipped, grabbed the towel rack which was not bolted in just grouted in and went slamming to the floor. Thankfully not sustaining more than bruises and a twisted ankle. Maintenace did come out and cleaned the bathroom up and replaced the large section of tile that came off with the towel rack.

With this timeshare we were able to have VIP status which allowed us to have access to most of the restaurants and some of the best pools and beaches. You had to wear wristbands 24/7 and if you lost them it was a very high cost to replace them. With the exception of the fine dining restaurant and Jazz (the New Orleans themed restaurant) the dinners were good but nothing memorable. Breakfast at the Presidential Suites is a must as it is far better than any other restaurant and the buffets are mediocre.

The pool below our penthouse was delightful and had it's own bar and a restaurant near by. Plenty of cabana's and chaises for all guests. The VIP pool was my favorite as it had many options for relaxing in the sun or under cover. I wish the wait staff would have made rounds to ask if you wanted anything but they waited until you came over to the bar or called to them.

To get to the other pools/restaurants/shops you could walk (it's a really BIG place, this is not a recommendation) or you could wait for a shuttle. We had pretty good luck at having only 5-10 minute waits for shuttles.

The big dinner show on the beach was spectacular and the food was from every restaurant on the facility. We enjoyed many different choices, from Dominican to Asian, American to Gourmet. The show is very much a Vegas Style show (which the boys loved!) The only downsides to the night was the constant push to do the timeshare tour and that we couldn't get a shuttle from the dinning location and had to walk quite a ways in the dark without street lights of any kind.

We did a couple excursions (city tour, fishing and Zip and Splash) and enjoyed the Zip and Splash the most. The waterfalls are incredible and I jumped from everyone of them. The water was so cool and the mineral formations on the sides of the river walls were really very interesting. We wished we could have stayed at many of the large pools to swim but they kept you on a steady pace. Which brings me to the hike up the falls, I unfortunately have a bit of a health issue and the heat and the climb almost did me in. The guides offered to get the donkeys for me to ride the rest of the way and they had plenty of water to drink. AWESOME adventure. After the Waterfalls we had a typical Dominican lunch that was the BEST lunch we had the whole trip. After a quick cigar rolling tour and demonstration we were off to the zip lines. We got a treat as well, they have added horseback riding to the adventure. The zip lines were a kick in the pants, and coming from someone who had issues with heights, this was so much fun I wanted to keep going.

Just a warning, they are voracious timeshare sales people. You can not escape them, you just need to either be better saying NO (continuously) and at running the numbers.

Room Tip: If you can book the Presidential Suites you will be much happier! AC throughout the rooms, flat scr...

Our family & friends were very excited about our trip but our experience in the resort was not what we hoped for. We stayed in Crown Residence Suites section. On the positive side the resort looks very nice, the rooms and common areas are very clean, the staff was courteous but everything else was disappointing. The food was horrible. We found little things here and there to hold us over but overall we did not like the food. Dominicans that own restaurants in the states would be embarrassed the resort could not even get "Dominican Night" right. The shuttle service, which takes you from one side of the resort to another, is terrible. It's disorganized and often we ended up waiting for a shuttle 40+ mins .The hotel staff had regulations for every little thing such as, a waiter would not give me a straw for my daughter during breakfast because straws are locked up during those hours. The hotel had restrictions to making reservations for more than 4 people therefore if the group wanted to experience one of the restaurants other than the buffet, we would need to split up and attend on different days. Also, the crown suites section is very boring. This section of the resort did not have a bar open or music during the evening hours. You would need to take a shuttle to the other sections of the resort. Our group of family & friends made the best of it but we all agreed we would never return to this resort.

Had a great girls b-day trip to Dominican Republic last year. (5/2012) The grounds & room were very nice. And the staff was amazing. Partied with the locals and had a great time. Played games on the beach. Loved the beds but get there early.. Rooms were rather humid thank god for the AC.. Food was ok.. drinks were great.

Loved all the events planned for us. (booked w/ Cheap Caribbean)..Overall good trip though I did happen to bring bedbugs back to NY. Not good @ all especially the additional $600 to rid them.

Would visit DR again but will stay else where..

We have just come back from the best holiday we have ever had. We booked via our friends, which entitled us to gold bands (VIP benefits). It is like living like a millionaire for 2 weeks. Golf buggy, beautiful villa, wonderful selection of food - quality awesome. There is a wide selection go restaurants where you can eat like a king. We particularly loved The Azur, Jazz, Intermites and Gourmet Resturants. Also loved the Tapas Bar. Quality drinks where and whenever you want them, also delivered to the Villa where the fridge is continually well stocked. The maid and chef service at the villa is also second to none. Relax by your own pool or use one of the beautiful beaches where you will get a double bed, curtained or not, and waiter service with drinks and food. We loved Serenity Beach with its cooling breeze. If you like luxury you will love this holiday.

Room Tip: Book the Crown Villas.

I just returned from a 5 night stay at Lifestyles. We stayed in the Crown Residences. Our room was beautiful and our housekeeper was amazing. The staff at our front desk were decent although no one in the entire resort seemed to be on one accord with how things went. The bell boys and front desk service at tropical are horrible but the entertainment is wonderful. I took aqua aerobics every morning with the instructors. Shout out to Johnny bravo and Lenny Kravitz. It was a fun activity to get the day started. The pools close very early so get all your swimming out during the day hours.

Be aware of the "welcome package". They whisk you off to try and sell you property, it may take a few hours so be prepared. Our sales man was very rude and nasty with us. It left a very bad taste in our mouths about the resort and their staff. The beaches are pretty bad at the resort, stick to the pools or go into town to the local beaches. According to our salesman, the beaches are bad because the nice beaches on the property are for the VIP members. So if ur not VIP don't plan on going in the ocean. Every Sunday they have a VIP welcome party. It's very nice with fireworks, be very careful with the food, especially the seafood. Myself and several others got food poison type illness hours after the party, that lastest for days. No bueno!
Overall, it's a decent place with nice people. They just need to pay more attention to detail, get on one accord as far as policy is concerned and maybe not come off so pushy.

First off, I was really worried after reading the reviews about the resort, but my cousin and I spent three nights at the resort, and honestly regret not staying longer.

We stayed at the crown residence suites, equipped with kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom bathroom and a peaceful balcony with a beautiful view.

I'm glad that we did not pay extra to be "VIP" because honestly we had access to any part of the resort (accept to the villa because those are actual residencies). The resort is HUGE with endless options of pools beaches bars and restaurants.

Our first day we met this WONDERFUL guy named Willy Burgos. He worked for the Ying Yang spa at Cofresi. Even though we did not want to purchAse any of the services the spa was offering, we ended up becoming good friends with him and he helped us during our entire stay. He is truly a wonderful person. He was so wonderful to us during our stay that we decided to purchase a massage and it was the best half hour of my life!!

Our favorite and most frequented location was Cofresi Beach and Cofresi Palm. Cofresi Beach had an AWESOME crew for entertainment. We met a lot of them and sexy banana, Eddie Murphy, blackie, and their manager JC made our trip awesome. They are SO funny!!!during the day they have you participate in fun activites like water aerobics, dart competitions, stretching and yoga.

At night they put on awesome shows at the cofresi palms theater called Lights Camera Action.
They have the audience participate, it is really a great time.

Prior to my trip I had read some bad reviews on this resort of the following:

They said the food was bad: Not true. All the buffets have wonderful food. However, for.dinner if you don't want to eat from the buffet, they have itialian Chinese Brazilian Indian and Dominican restaurants. You DO need reservations for those. The front desk advises you to make a.reservation between 9 and 11 am, but to be honest you need to be there before then because you will not get a reservation.

I read a review saying the staff was rude and the facility was dirty: absolutely not true!!! The facility is impeccably clean. There are hundreds of staff members, but all the ones I met were wonderful.

I also had read that the tv didn't work because the bill wasn't paid for. That happened once during our stay, but really who goes to a resort to watch tv???

I will say, don't get overwhelmed with all the activities and souviniers. Look around first to see which ones you would like to do because they have everything from banana boat rides and parasailing, to horseback riding and swimming with dolphins ...

Thank You Willy, sexy banana, Eddie Murphy, blackie, JC, and the rest of the Lifestyles employees for making this trip an UNFORGETABLE one. We will be coming back without a doubt!!!

-Milena

My boyfriend and I traveled with another couple to Lifestyle Resorts for 7 nights - prior to the trip, we were nervous that we would not have a good time, since we had read many poor reviews about the resort. Overall though, we had a wonderful time!

We arrived to the resort from the airport with no trouble at all. We checked in at the Residence Suites, which are apartment-style with 1 bedroom (1 king bed), 1 bath, a living room, and a kitchen. The concierge are extremely helpful, made us feel comfortable asking them anything, and there was always someone at the desk at all hours of the day. The apartment was beautiful, everything was clean and neat. We got fresh towels everyday.

The food services at the resort were good. The food was by no means gourmet, but it was better-than-average and the sheer variety of food made it possible to always find something to eat. At any of the day, you can find something to eat. We really liked having lunch at Bellini's, the Italian restaurant (the lunch menu was almost identical to the dinner menu). Every night (except for the first night, when we arrived too late to make a reservation) of our stay, we were able to make a reservation at one of the many restaurants available. If you aren't able to make a reservation, then there are 2 huge buffets you can eat at. For example, we ate Dominican food our first night, Asian fusion our second night, Seafood our 3rd and 4th nights, and Mexican our 5th night. Each week on Sunday the resort hosts a huge welcome party for new arrivals.

All the pools are nice. We mostly went to the VIP beach (which is open to non-VIP members, but just named the "VIP" beach). All the drinks are really good, bartenders are really nice. They also serve food at the VIP beach, like wings, sandwiches and salads. The beach itself wasn't quite the white sand and clear water that we imagined, but it was enjoyable enough since we spent most of our time on the beds anyway. Make sure you go before the afternoon rush since it is basically impossible to get a bed around noon/early afternoon.

The resort also has an excursion center where you can book day excursions. We went snorkeling through Aqua Center, which was $45 for 4 hours of snorkeling in Sosua Beach (which is a 30 min drive away - they provide transportation). We even got a camera man underwater who took pictures of us with the fish! We also went on the waterfall adventure, where you jump off waterfalls that are up to 50 feet high. That was $65.

Overall, we had a really relaxing trip. There is an event every night (whether it's traditional Dominican dancing, skits, etc) and the disco is open as well (although we didn't get to check that out). We mostly just spent the entire trip drinking tropical drinks and eating (too much!), and lounging and just relaxing. The best part was that the resort was very safe. Also, we didn't encounter any problems with the shuttle as previously mentioned (we traveled in June though, so that could be a reason why). All the workers were very happy and helpful all the time. Make sure you bring lots of cash! We brought $60 in dollar bills for tipping waiters/concierge/maids, and an additional 200-300/person for souvenirs and excursions (which usually cost around 60+ each). There is also a nightmarket on most weekdays for souvenirs like jewelry, shotglasses, little wood sculptures, cigars, and photo albums.

Room Tip: We really liked the Residence Suites, because it was right next to Bellini's (so we could eat th...
