“Nice View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We are a family of 4 with a 15 and a 13 year old. We decided not to go with a tour operator and hired a taxi ($50 from the Riu) which also included the Brugal Rum bottling factory. The taxi driver took us there and waited while we went up.

We were not hounded for a guide. The ride up and down was the highlight as the views were great. Just make sure to go on a clear day.

We went around 3:30pm (last ride up at 4pm) and it was not busy. Most of the tours are there earlier in the day.

There was not much to do at the top. We did not spend much time there. We actually found the view better from the cable car. We did get our pictures taken with the statue by alocal and tipped him $5. He wanted us to see "his" stall in the building but we decided not to go in. We may have only spent 20 minutes at the top before theride back down.

Well worth the cost of around $10/pp.

“Nice ride”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

As soon as we walked in the building and bought our ticket we were hounded to hire a guide. My advice is don't. All it is on the top is a nature trail looking at trees and plants. Was a nice ride up the mountain. We thought we were going on a nice day but once at the top it was kind of hazy so the view was limited. But the view we did see was beautiful. There was a girl near the Jesus statue that offered to take our pics kissing him, holding his hands etc. Tried to give her a thank you tip but she wouldn't take it. She insisted instead that we buy from her store. To be honest this little trip was just Mehh for me.

“Don't get a guide!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

This excursion was ruined for us because we were pressured into getting a guide. A man pressured us before we even entered the building and it went downhill from there! The ride to the top was nice and the views from the top are great, if you go in the morning and pick a clear day. Just be very forceful and decline a guide or the overtures of the vendors and you can have a nice time. There is a small restaurant at the top with drinks, snacks and a bathroom. The gardens at the top are okay, but may be worth the walk if you want to get some alternate views of Puerto Plata.

“Beautiful ride up the mountain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Great cable car ride to the top of Mt. Isabel de Torres. You see the entire city of Puerto Plata and the ocean. It is cool at the top with walking trails and shops. Only cons were - a lot of rude and noisy teenagers the day we went. The car was limited to 20 persons but we counted as many as 34 going on and coming off.
