“The colors of your wirstband”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Overall the property was very nice, it does however make a difference who you book your vacation with because that determines the color of your wristband and the type of accommodations and service you get. We booked our trip with Cheap Caribbean as VIP which was supposed to be a step up from other accommodations, however, the room they gave us did not look anything like the web site and the overall attitude at the front desk was lacking. I had asked to change rooms from the one they gave us as it was on the ground level and the location was sketchy. Only until they realized that my friend spoke Spanish did they decide to move us to another building when originally "they had no other rooms available". After our second day there upon purchasing their Lifestyles Holiday Vacation Package, which I might add was a mistake, did we actually receive VIP service that allowed us onto member only beach areas and name brand alcohol that was only available at certain bars. On a positive note the rooms and grounds were kept very clean and most of the staff, aside from the front desk experience ,were very friendly and accommodating.

Room Tip: The rooms on the Confresi Beach side are more money, but they are new and not worn out.

Came here with a friend for a long weekend during Labor Day 2013. Overall, a pleasant experience! Friendly/engaging staff who always made us feel welcome and at home, especially John Cena, Johnny Bravo, Lenny Kravitz, and Conejo. The servers at the buffet/restaurants were also very friendly and warm. The rooms were kept very tidy and the air conditioned room temperature was perfect after a long day in the sun. Our room in building 5 was a close walk to Casablanca (buffet), pools, and the beach.

Free WiFi at VIP beach from 9am - 6pm was also a great addition. Free WiFi in the rooms would have been better though.

The food was never disappointing, but I was never blown away either. Generally good but not great, except for the Sunday welcome party where choices were plentiful and quality was excellent. The drinks could've found a happy medium - I always found them to be at two extremes - either very weak, or very potent. Also, being awakened at 8am by the cleaning staff every morning was rather bothersome. They're very understanding, however, if you ask them to come back later.

Overall, a great time! Thank you, Tropical, for a great vacation!

I went to this resort with my wife and my three kids for 9 days. It was a very beautiful place we were very happy with everything in this resort .. We stayed at the Tropical and everyday we went to the pools, bars and restaurants. The best was the shows and the people that work there. A few people that made our vacation the best was RABBIT, JOHN CENA, JHONNY BRAVO, always making us laugh and friendly .. At the VIP POOL we made a friend the security guard YANIOR .. Always very friendly and courteous with everyone. These are a few that made our stay the BEST! The food was good, the bars and everything .. Thank you Tropical Puerto Plata for the best vacation

My fiancee and I had an excellent visit to the Tropical at Lifestyle in February 2013. We're a young couple on a budget, but we found the quality of the food and service to be pretty good for our buck.

Understand that they're going to try to sell you a time share, but at least they'll give you a bottle of rum for your trouble. Also, everyone will want to sell excursions - stick to the hotel sponsored folks. We went on a couple excursions that were super fun - the zipline and waterfalls were exceptionally fun!

If only they would get rid of the stupid dinner reservations system, I'd be in heaven. Be prepared to stand in line every morning for a dinner reservation, then wait to know if it's confirmed until six that evening. You'll probably get stuck with a 9:00 or 9:30 reservation, but when you finally do get to eat the food will be pretty excellent.

We booked through cheap Caribbean and the price was unbeatable. The food was mediocre at best, VIP beach was fantastic. Would go again at the discounted rate but would never pay the regular rates for this hotel.

A sign at the entrance to the resort complex says "Welcome Home!", and this is truely how you feel when returning to this resort. From the friendly reception staff, bellboys, and wait staff, to the cleaning staff and animation team, you are consistently greeted with a friendly smile and a cheerful "Hola!", and many have even remembered my husband, baby daughter and I by name! If you want an incredible vacation at a budget price, with numerous dining options, gourmet treats such as lobster, sushi, fillet mignon, and aged cheeses, drink and food service as you lounge among billowing white curtains on beach beds, top shelf liquors, and the party of your life at the beach welcome party, complete with dancing, live artists, and fireworks, this is the place to come. Special thanks to Jhony Bravo from the animation team for keeping my husband busy and entertained with sports and other pursuits so I could catch some rays, and George of the Jungle at the sport center who always greets us with the friendliest of smiles, and makes sure we always have exactly what we need. Thank you Lifestyle!

Room Tip: Take the room you give you, and if not satisfied they will go out of their way to accommodate you.

My husband and I decided to take advantage of an all inclusive getaway to the Puerto Plata D.R.. Six days and 5 nights!! From the moment we landed till the day of our departure we were subject to high pressured sales to purchase the Lifestyle VIP membership! The resort has beautiful landscaping and the VIP beaches are nice. For the non- VIP guests the beaches are limited. Pools at the resorts are decents. Rooms are standard with a basic shower, king bed mini fridge and little patio. If you are VIP well the sky is the limit on your room type. . Keep in mind with A.I. you only get a stocked fridge on your first day one pepsi and one 7up and 2 beers!! no snacks ever!! Water daily. Rooms are in located in 3 story buildings throughout the property. Staff is not very friendly or helpful when you need assistance. I suggest that if traveling to the D.R. brush up on your spanish!! If you are looking for good food options, flavorful and 24/7 service it is not here! The drinks rarely cold and ice doesnt last.. Again if you are a VIP member your experience may be different. I am sharing my review to those of us that just want to go on a vacation that we paid for and we get what is promised or advertised on the booking site.We just feel we should get our money's worth. If you dare to venture around the property plan on using the shuttle or walking a distance. If you are a VIP member then the golf cart is your method of transportation. Entertainment is so limited although it maybe nightly but sitting by the pool may be more entertaining!!! Of course the Sunday Big Party!!! is another attempt to sell you the Lifestlye Memebership with dinner and drinks and entertainment... and some fireworks... we didnt buy. We asked the sales rep if we could have sometime to think about investing our savings and get back to him and he became rude and agressive and walked away from my husband and I .. stating we wasted his time... I am sorry but aren't we the ones on vacation here??? and really dont want to think about finances in the tropics!! I encourage you to book a snorkle trip to Sousa or Paradise Island.. you will see beautiful beaches and amazing water that you will not see on the property. If you want a great delicious lobster dinner at a reasonable price go into town to a little place called Ponderosa! It is awesome.. you pick out your lobster and it is grilled up and so fabulous.. about 22-24 dollars a pound... If you are looking to purchase the native stone Ladimare/ Amber be sure to shop around.. the shops have marked up the value of this stone at least twice or 3 times its value... so beware!!.

Room Tip: Third floor no elevators... towards the end where you can look at the ocean. If you are not spendin...
