Wow, what a wonderful vacation we had. We were at the Breezes from Nov.
01- Nov. 08, 2003...not long enough. There were 11 of us travelling together.
RESORT- Absolutely beautiful. The pool was the best part. A lazy river going around the larger pool complete with waterslides, hot tubs, swim up pool bar and activity pool. Just a little hint, bring a floatie for the pool because it is about 6 feet deep. Grounds well kept with plenty of things to keep you as busy as you want to be.
RESTAURANTS- The four a la carte restuarants are all worth visiting.
The service was wonderful. Be prepared to spend a little longer time than you would in the buffet. There are multiple courses. I enjoyed the Paris (french) the best, but all were really delicious. The buffet is good, nothing great. The beach bar had food 24 hours. Great for the 2 am snack. Alcohol selection was wonderful. Premium brands...Canadian Club, Bailey's, Kaluha, Drambuie, Sambuca....etc. They don't skimp on the drinks. Hint #2 Bring your own large insulated mug for drinks. It will keep them cold and you won't have to visit the bar every 15 minutes. Staff had no problem filling them up with tastie beverages!!
STAFF- super friendly. A wonderful group of individuals. We were told not to tip, and unlike many other resorts i've been to, not tipping doesn't mean no service. We did learn that gifts to staff are permitted.
ACTIVITIES-you MUST try the trapeze. It was sooo much fun. Don't worry, it's safe. There was also rock climbing, and the pitch and putt is a mini par 3 course. Hole distances varied from about 50 yards to 125 yards. They supply the clubs, so no need to bring your own. There are plenty of things to keep you busy if you want. Also, if you are planning a snorkeling trip, the BIG BLUE SWISS dive centre at the hotel offers great snorkeling adventures. We planned a trip with them which included snorkeling, a boat ride, banana boat rides, and a full delicious seafood dinner for only $45 each. The dinner was home cooked by the owner Marcel and his wife. This by far was the best deal out there. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!!
SHOPPING- Beware... good deals are out there but you really have to work for them. shopping in Cabarette was better than Sosua. Sosua was an outdoor flea market with very pushy salespeople. We found Cabarette had better deals without having to barter for 1/2 hour. Example; in sosua, looking for a bathing suit saronge. price started at 1800 peso and we ended up getting it for 200 pesos. crazy. in cabarette, it was 240 pesos with no bargaining necessary. have fun with it.
ROOMS- it would have to be the only negative thing about the resort.
the rooms haven't been updated yet like the rest of the resort has.
they are adequate for the amount of time you are going to spend in them, but nothing special. not really much of an issue though.
SUGGESTIONS- as i mentioned earlier, here are a few helpful hints; bring a floatie for the pool, bring an insulated mug for keeping beverages cold, exchange your money in town... the hotel was giving 20 peso to 1 CND dollar where the town exchange was giving 27-1. Book your snorkelling trip with the BIG BLUE DIVE centre at the hotel. and finally, have a great time. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions
