“Great trip for the money we paid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

We booked through Cheap Caribbean and got a steal of a deal so we were not expecting top luxury. Overall, i thought the resort was nice...like other reviewers stated the complex is HUGE. We spent most of our time at the adults only pool near the lobby or at the pool near the spa. When we did venture to the beach, it was crowded and the service was slow.

I felt safer at this resort and in Puerto Plata than I did in Punta Cana. You could go down the beach and into the town. If you are traveling as a group of women or as a single woman I would have no problem recommending this resort or area.

We never had a problem with our room, which is a first for a resort. The room was small but who cares we were only there to sleep. It was clean and the A/C was cold.

The food was better than some all-inclusives we have been to and it was nice having a choice of different buffets. We ate twice at the Mexican restaurant and the food was GREAT.

We took a shuttle to the other parts of the resort rather than walking and we never had to wait more than a few minutes.

Now for the not so great parts, the VIP's are treated like royalty and everyone else like peasants.

The cigar guy was a complete pushy jerk to my husband even after he bought some from him.

The vacation club guys are like sharks and stalk you. We did the presentation so he could get his commission and directly asked for the bottom line and realized at least for us the math did not add up.

My main complaint is the fridge was not stocked with beer or soda after your arrival. We asked the front desk and this is a service for VIP's only. Even the worst resorts we have been to give you a few beers every day!

We would go back if we got another great deal or were able to buy a week at a good price. Overall a great week.

Room Tip: Don't stay in building 201. It is directly at the main road where the employees come in...busie...

Date of stay Jan 18-25, 2013. This was our first disappointing Interval International Getaway based on ROOMS ONLY. The rest was great. We were supposed to get a 2 bedroom suite with 1 king & 1 queen bed with a livingroom & kitchen. Guest Services told us when we got there that 2 bedroom suites did not exist. We got rooms 42312/42313; a studio King (with an uncomfortable bed because there was no box spring) and an attached 1 studio with 2 Doubles. Our friends had to change rooms because they could not share a double bed all week and were moved to 42310. Secondly, there was only 1 door between the rooms in building 42, and we could here our new neighbours VERY clearly, which was not enjoyable. Our friends had the same issue with their new adjoining room.

If a 2 bedroom suite was nonexistent, we should have been given 2 X 1 bedrooms, like in building 20 which had a 1 bedroom & separate living room, like we were promised.
(our other friends stayed in room 20321, it was beautiful & quiet)

At the resort, Francisco from Interval was amazing. Always smiling and always helpful!!

Room Tip: Building 20: overlooks the Spa, very quiet. Building 42: can hear neighbours too easily. Large room...

The property is beautiful, the staff are friendly and the resort is a great value for the price. If you go into your stay at the Cofresi Palm armed with information provided in all of the Trip Advisor reviews you will have a GREAT TIME. We didn't get the VIP package, nor were we bothered by the people selling Time Shares. It is a bit odd having places that you can't go at an All-Inclusive resort but there are so many great things for non-VIP clients that you will still have a wonderful time.

Some advice..
- Upgrade to the junior suite if you can. We went with a couple who didn't upgrade and their standard room was less than half the size of the jr. suite plus we also got an additional bracelet that allowed us access to the VIP beach
- go to the VIP beach early to get a cabana, the drinks are better and you are able to order food versus having to make a trip to the buffet for lunch
- the staff don't expect you to tip, but tipping for good service goes a long way so bring $1 bills
- the resort is huge like all of the reviews mention so there is a lot of walking, make sure to ask for a map. The plus side to the massive property is that you can go to a different pool or section of the resort every day if you want

Room Tip: Ask for a Junior Suite in Building 40, 41, 42 or 43 they are all newly renovated buildings

So here's an honest review of the Cofresi. Let's start by saying that you can't go wrong with any resort in DR, as it's overwhelmingly beautiful. That being said here's the low down on the resort:

Beach: the beach was a little bit disappointing, wasn't always clean and there were rocks everywhere, I ended up injuring myself multiple times!! Same problem was with the beach area by the pool, the volleyball court was super dangerous, as there was a cement wall by it and again rocks everywhere. However, we still managed to have a great time, doesn't take much with a few drinks ;)

Pool: the water was SOOO cold, and the pools were verrryyy dispersed through the resort so there wasn't really a main pool. Not many people really went in the pools other than to clean off or refresh which was different than most resorts I've been to.

Beach bars: although the bartenders were great, the drink variety was very limited -again compared to other resorts I've been to. All in all though the basics were covered so no complaints there.

Rooms: the room was definitely a disappointment. Although clean, it was falling apart. We had no hot water the first two days, then after complaining several times we ONLY had boiling hot water (don't know which was worst). Eventually by the second last day things were fixed but it was definitely a big issue. On top of that, the room was very small altogether, especially for two girls. The bathroom counter was basically the sink, so no room to put your stuff and -girls will understand - to get ready. I suggest bringing a hair dryer; ours was hardly ever working and when it was it was sparking and smelling like smoke.. soo we were pretty much waiting for the thing to blow up. Also, online they talk about booze in the room/drinks in the fridge. Our fridge never worked and we had zero drinks except for one warm beer. Also MOLD! it smelled like mold so if you're allergic, careful.

Night life: sooo we never ended up leaving the resort because the disco was SO MUCH FUN!!! We would usually pre-drink before going there (although entirely unnecessary) and then would just dance until the disco closed. It was nothing out of the ordinary but it just had a good vibe. warning: the drinks are INSANELY strong so pace yourself, things tended to get out of control really fast. Though I guess that's part of the fun :P

Entertainment: SEXY BAMBOOOOO!!!! tacatacaaaaaa he was by far my favorite!! he was hilarious and not too pushy when it came to participating in the activities. Also the guy can DANCE!! still blown away from their moves!!! Everyone else was great too but no one compared to sexy bamboooooo!! plus he would hang with us so that made him that much cooler!

One last thing, the resort is MASSIVE, we got lost every single day and you don't get access to shuttle services. Also, VIP get the wholeeeeee 9 yards, whereas -even with a plus package - you get squat :D haha

Although I think the trip was wayyy overpriced (we paid about 1500$ from Montreal), it was still an amazing time! 90% of the reason why it was so awesome was because of SEXY BAMBOOO and Ice (the disco) so much funnn!!

That's all folks! Hope this review is helpful!

Adios.

Room Tip: Go for the VIP

Ok people, here is the low-down on Cofresi Palm. Let's just say, it is beautiful. Palm trees everywhere, pools everywhere, beautiful beaches, amazing ocean. Despite the one cloudy/rainy day, it was still beautiful and we were able to enjoy it.
Now, there are mostly good but a few bad things about this trip. To say you are treated like a second class citizen if you aren't VIP doesn't sound exactly it, but I guess everyone has a different experience. My boyfriend and I weren't VIP but because we had a Junior Suite, I guess we were VIP wannabes. One thing you have to remember, you may not understand these people and they may not understand you, but you are coming into THEIR country, respect them. Mutual respect goes a long way.
SO to begin, because we had a Junior Suite we had access to the VIP beach at the Tropical which was AMAZING. Served food and drinks whenever you want, and beautiful canopy beds to relax on. Gerardo is the man for the awesome drinks. We didn't get all VIP access but really....you don't need it unless you truly don't want to interact with others. In that case, why did you go on vacation?
The buffets at both Cofresi and Tropical were amazing, and there is SO MUCH FOOD. The hotel will make 3 reservations for you which can be easily changed through Guest Services. We had one a la carte (Asian) and my boyfriend got food poisoning - not good. For the most part, stick to what you know at these places, no weird meat or you will pay for it!
The water - don't drink the tap water, any other water/ice is completely filtered.
The rooms were spacious as heck! When we arrived there was a mixup but we fixed it the next day without a problem. They switched our rooms and we were extremely satisfied. Comfy beds, and a beautiful bathroom, don't really need much more than that!
There are so many pools at this place, you can really go anywhere. The only thing that kinda sucked was that the "Adult Only" pools usually had kids in them, but the pools are so freakin' big it really doesn't matter. Way too beautiful to complain.
As for the shows, there is something EVERY NIGHT. Don't worry about missing one. There are signs everywhere for what the shows are, and they are at exactly the same time every night, so you really don't have an excuse to say "oh we didn't know".
Honestly, the rooms are great, the food is great, the pools are amazing. The staff are always happy, helpful, and dancing!
As for the bad stuff, the only problem we had was with the VIP tours. They are like vultures and wait for you as you come out of breakfast. All you say is you already did the tour, or you aren't interested. Just say NO and they will leave you alone, it really isn't that complicated.
Always make sure when you are traveling to bring all necessary medications with you. Gravol, Imodium, etc. You never know how your body will react to different foods, so be prepared. They do sell them in their shops but you don't want to spend a ton of money on them. Dukoral before you leave is even better!
Due to the fact that this place is basically on the hillside, there are a lot of stairs and walking, kinda nice when you've just eaten a giant meal right? If walking isn't your thing, I wouldn't suggest this place. There are shuttles all the time but you can't guarantee it will be there when you need it.
Tipping the maids, the shuttle drivers, and even the waiters is completely obligatory. But in all honesty, they deserve it. They are ALWAYS attentive and wanting to help you in any way they can, and to show your appreciation with a little bit of money can go a long way.
Despite the slight food poisoning we had an incredible time. The horse back riding with Rancho Lorilar(do it, it is amazing) and the amazing show on Sunday nights (every Sunday!!!) was incredible. We really don't have much to complain about. I don't even know if I have remembered everything from this trip but what I do know is that for my first trip in 10 years, and as an adult, it was definitely memorable. Thank you, Cofresi Palm!

Room Tip: -A/C in all rooms -ask for pool/ocean view -pay the bit extra for a Junior Suite, you get VIP acce...

My girlfriends stayed at the Cofresi from Jan 22-29th. We went knowing we got a great price so we weren't expecting luxury. The downfalls were no mini bar in the room, a sewage smell cetain times of the day and lots of walking/hiking up stairs to get around this massive resort. As I said though for the price we paid the weather, drinks, food, disco and staff more than made up for this. Nightly shows were very good. The entertainment staff does such a great job making you feel welcome and keeping you posted on activities. Special shout outs to Sexy Banana, Sexy Blacky, Sexy Bamboo, Donkey and of course our Angel at the late night snack bar. You guys made the trip so much fun.
Great time overall, lots of laughs. Not the place to go if you are a princess expecting to be catered to though. For less walking next time I wpuld stay at the Tropical next door. They share amenities but have better food and a better pool. Definitely a good place to go for a good time.

My cousin, Best Friend and I decided to go away as an early graduation gift to me. We choose this location because my cousin owns a Time Share and was able to trade in her time for this location. We were greeted with kindness from the moment we arrived. Our first problem didn't occur until we got to our room. Our room wasn't the room we had booked, so we had to take the shuttle back to the front desk to find out what was going on. After waiting a little while and a little back and forth we spoke to Cesar Eslava the Asst. Manager. He completely apologize for the mix up in rooms and tried to accommodate us.
There were a few little other mishaps during the stay and when brought to Cesar's attention, he went above and beyond to fix them. Our vacation turned out to be great and we owe a big part of that to Cesar.

Thanks Cesar - we will see you next year!

Room Tip: May sure to be VIP
