Had an awesome time! Planned on having a terrific time and was not disappointed. Animation Team full of superior fun people. Played beach volleyball, water polo, darts, ping pong, bocci, snorkeled. Took Spanish lessons each morning & the dance classes each afternoon. Staff was great - mostly all spoke enough English to get by and even joke in. Closed the disco each night & had a burger/fries before heading home. Snoozed on beach each morning while listening to Spanish lovesongs on the sound system. Had upgraded to Gold Club - definitely worth the $40 for 2 weeks. Fruitplate/rum in room on checkin, t-shirts, bathrobes, extra beach towels, etc. Separate checkout, internet access. Have read the bad reviews and think the unhappy people just didn't want to have fun - we were 4 women who had an unbelievably good time and are all definitely going back.

Wow where do you start. My husband and I were at the Bahia Principe last year from Nov 1-8/03. We had such a great time that this year we decided to take the kids. So we booked and went Nov. 8-15/04. What can I say, between the bugs in the room, the lights not working (which I was told was a timer issue), and a broken shower, we tried to make the best of it. We were in connecting rooms in H3 building in the back, with no lights after 11:30 it made going up the road for the shows and night life a little scarey coming back to the room.

I have read all the reviews, and I should note that having been there last year when we had such a great time, food was excellent staff went above and beyond, I was disappointed this time around, staff were good, just not as good. Food was good, just not as good. Kids kept wondering if they were ever going to serve bacon, which they did last year. I can understand all the people who having just been there for the first time thinking that this was a great place, however for me this being the second time, what can I say, it lost some of its charm, and I can't place why. I just know that there will not be a third visit, as I don't want my memories of the first time totally distroyed.

Who knows where our next holiday will be, I do know that it won't be the Bahia Principe.

My boyfriend and I as well as four of our friends went to the Bahia Principe San Juan resort November 3-10, 2004. We are in our early 20's and have never been to Bahia Principe San Juan before. I have travelled to Cuba, Mexico, Hawaii and this was my first trip to the Dominican Republic. I didn't know what to expect and after reading the reviews I got a little scared. It turned out that the resort was way nicer than I was expeciting, it was clean, the people were very friendly and spoke really good english.

The resort it self is beautfiul as there is lots of palm trees, beautiful gardens and paths.
It also is huge and that way it becomes way more private. The three pools were great but the swim up bar was even better. The beach was nice but is even nicer if you go for a quick walk to the left of the resort.

The food was delicious and had lots of variety. There wasn't a moment on our trip that any of us got hungry because you can get food 24 hours a day there.

The entertainment was great. We like the Star light express night the best. It was way too funny. But the dancers are good and they never wore the same costume twice.

Night life is great! There are so many different things that you can do. After the nightly show you can go out to the street where you can sit and have drinks at the pub, listen to the live music, dance in the disco, spend your money in the Casino or go to the Kaeroke bar.

Over all the only complaint would be that maybe they could have had blended drinks. The drinks were o.k and did the job but it would be a little better if there was a bit more variety.

Also the only time we encountered any beach flees was when the sun had gone down for a couple of hours. After then if you are on the beach in bare feet you are fair game.

Overall the time we spend in the dominican was amazing. The resort was great. I think that you should make the best out of any vacation you go on. If I could suggest anything to the next people to go there I would totally suggest to go on the Safari tour through the resort's local company. Bring tons of candy for the children and we also brought t-shirts from home to give them as well. They were great and it was so neat to see outside of the resort.

Before booking this place, read the poor reviews. I am not going to duplicate what has been already written, but I can assure from my experience they are worth reading. Unfortunately I didn't heed the advice from tripadvisor prior to this vacation, regardless we made the best of things and had a good time with our friends. But I beg of you, please take this advice and stay away. I have been to 6 AI resorts in the past few years, this place is NOT good.
