“It was OK. If you like third degree burns!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

The rooms at the Riu Mambo were not very modern but found to be better as it fitted in with the experience of the Dominican Republic. Kept in immaculate condition as were cleaned every day with pillows in the shape of animals left on our bed. However, the men who fill the mini bar in our room did tell us off as our younger daughters (aged 16) got blitzed off whisky & vod. The food was repeatitive but enjoyable so there was no problem. Furthermore, do not eat the vomit fruit.. It's vile and smells of sick. My younger daughter was at the buffet recieving a plate of chips when a chef threw a piece of steak on the grill and the fat spitted & spatted at her. She screamed as she felt burning and looked down, only to see a peice of beef on her chest leaving a severe burn. The chef had no sympathy and was not apologetic as he looked at her like a peice of muck on his shoe. The staff were overly friendly as one boy (aka Pepsi) kept glaring at & winking at my daughter who felt very uncomfortable. Some other staff didn't make us feel very welcome. A girl called Dominga was also very miserable about helping with our phone card and this lead to my bill being £342.89.

“We enjoyed ourselves”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

We went to the Mambo for our family holiday. Our room wasn't ready as we arrived before three. We received our envelope with all our information and bracelets and went and had lunch. Once luch was done, our room was ready. The rooms could use a little updating but it was very clean so no big deal. We found the staff to be personable and always interacting with the guests. Food had variety of everything and there was self serve Presidente in the buffet. We did the Outback safari while we were there. Got picked up at 8:30 am and was back at the resort by 5:30 pm long day but fun.We had use of all three Rius and spent time at each one having a drink, having lunch etc. These resorts are very good value for your dollar but the Mambo beach appeared to be the best. Michael Jackson show is not to be missed. Good time!

“Paradise?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

Stayed here in February/March 2012, and had a wonderful time. The Mambo is just one of three hotels run by the same company that connect to each other along a perfect stretch of clean, clear beach, which makes for a very relaxing walk as you explore the coastline, stopping for drinks or food in each one along the way. Very nice and very civilised. The place was spotless, the staff so hard working, yet always with a cheery smile, nothing was ever too much for them. I have mobility problems and they even carried a comfy armchair out the front of the hotel so I could sit and sketch/paint! The accommodation comprises of 8 ground rooms and 8 first floor rooms in each 'unit' - each with their own balcony etc. Every 'unit' is painted in a beautiful pastel shade, and they look stunning set amongst the palm trees. Rooms are spacious and airy with probably the quietest air conditioning I have ever encountered, include a room safe, which is free of charge - other hotels take note! Rooms also have spirits mounted in optics included in the price, and soft drinks and beer in the fridge replaced alternate days. Food is good, but is mostly the same as almost every other hotel of this standard - but you will not be disappointed. Entertainment staff were there, but not in your face, and they left you alone if you did not want to get energetic. We did not go to the night shows simply as it's not our thing, but from the regular amount of large applause we heard, the shows must have been very good. The hotel had the largest range of beach activity's I have witnessed, and it's the first time I have seen staff enforce drink breaks for water and soft drinks whilst folks run around on the beach; to my mind that really is taking care of their guests! Whilst there I had a fall, and the staff and management were exceptional in their care and concern: it is something we cannot praise them highly enough for. We heartily recommend this hotel for your holiday.

“Good place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012 via mobile

The mambo is one of the 3 riu's on the complex- you can use facilities such as pools in all 3 so that was good. Location on the beach- excellent. Animation team were fantastic and all the staff were friendly and keen to help all the time. The disco is air conditioned which was nice and the pool bar served a good selection of drinks. Hotel was clean and I really enjoyed the holiday!
Food was freshly cooked, good variety everyday, and the cooking stations for omlette/ fresh meats and fish, i found really good. Would definitely stay at riu again.

“Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

Had a great holiday, stayed for 2 weeks in 2011. Staff very friendly and if we had to ask for anything it was dealt with smile. Service was excellent and conditions of all locations clean and serviceable. Food was to a very good standard and plenty of choice.

Would hesitate to go back.
