“Great Resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

This was my second year going to the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada loved it both times. Great food and the beach was awesome. Felt very safe at this resort. Had no complaints about my room very clean rooms and resort. The evening entertainment was better last year but nothing to complain about. The only thing that could be different with the restaurant is that they should have coffee available 24 hours.

Room Tip: I had a ocean view on the 3rd floor and it was great.

We were at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada Feb. 08-15th for our first visit to this resort and to the Dominican Republic. Transfer from the airport to the resort was quick, about a 20 minute bus ride. Check in went well & we were provided with the rooms we had requested. The resort grounds are beautiful & well maintained. The beach is great – best in Playa Dorada – firm to walk on. Only negative was the vendors who walk the public beach – just say no thank you & they will move on. The staff is very friendly & always accommodating. Time shares were being offered by sales staff – really annoying & persistent. Entertainment staff was good & kept the party going. Our room was cleaned/restocked daily with no issues. Wi-Fi is available in certain areas but not in our room. The food selection was good with lots of variety at the buffet & lunch restaurants. View from the open air buffet is amazing – great spot to have your morning coffee. The 2 specialty restaurants were very good – variety and quality. The pools were really nice but not enough umbrellas so the lounge towel game was in play. A large portion of our group did the Runner Tour – a full day excursion in open air trucks taking participants into the hills and off to a beautiful sandy beach – had a fun time and would recommend it to visitors to Puerto Plata.
Overall a great week – weather was great – hot & sunny. Had a blast with our large radio station group.
We would return to this resort.

Gorgeous views, great value, non stop action, just wish they would please offer barbecue fish @ buffet. Exceptionally friendly, kind warm staff, especially the servers, chefs & most of the animation team. My favourite who also provided Spanish lessons & great H2o aerobics classes is Joel. Thanxox

Cheers!
P.S. I was never sick, just use common sense & take responsibility in your own hygiene & what & how much you ingest.

Room Tip: Consider how many flight of stairs U can handle & if your priority is view, quiet or ?

I am sitting at the resort now and felt i had to set the record straight somewhat. I had been seriously fretting about this place because of all the reports of ppl getting sick and how bad it was...well i think these ppl were all in the same group and had a bad experience. Im guessing the sickness is from carelessness. They warned us multiple times not to drink the water...so even if you shower and open you mouth to it..or rinse a toothbrush that would do it. Anyways. The service is very good. The meals are actually quite tasty and the resort is what you pay for. It is a 3.5-4 star and that's what you get. Of course there are corners with cracks...doesn't everyone at home too?...sure there is rust places we wouldn't normally have...but it is an older resort and you are by the ocean...Salt people will create rust! Anyways the weather is good the pool is refreshing..not freezing, the showers have been warm. The only thing I would suggest staying away from is the lobster. Have my had one yet that has been good. Oh and keep an eye on your towel....mine was snagged in the morning while I wet to get breakfast! Have a great time at Grand Paradise!

Good food
Good service
only:
1.- please don't almost force us to put an unidentified goop on our hands before we enter the buffet.
2.- think of us (your more that 75% of clients over 55) as people also. We are here for vacation. We like our beach quiet, we like our nights quiet. It's not that we don't like Marengue. We just have enough after a very little while.
Select the people who adjust the volume of all your over sized amplifiers from a pool of people whose ears are still

Room Tip: No use asking for quiet rooms. They have some in building 14 and 16 but they are really hard to get.

We were a group of 10 people. All from Canada, Montreal. Food was great, hotel looks good. Ask for Donkey.
He will show you around and tell you how to have fun. No bugs or anything in the rooms and we were all ground level. Best vacation ever.

We spent the first 2 weeks of February at the Grand Paradise and I can't think of much that was negative. Ok, the pool was colder than the ocean and that, I thought, was a bit strange but other than that all was fantastic.

The buffet was continually excellent. There was always a choice of beef, pork, chicken and seafood at pretty much every meal. For a change from the buffet we would go the Eden's restaurant which served hamburgers, fries, hotdogs and pizza on a daily basis from 12:00 to 4:00. The buffet would have a different theme each evening. One night might be Mexican, another Italian and the next Americana and so on. You get the picture. We checked out the 2 al a carte restaurants one time each. They were fine but we found the buffet had such a good selection of choices that we ate there pretty much all week.

The maid service was very good but keep in mind that we left a couple of bucks on the pillow each morning so that might have had a bearing on the service. Our room, though small, was quite nice and comfortable enough. We had loads of hot water every day with the exception of one evening. I think they had a problem with the entire water heating system. A number of people we spoke to all suffered a luke warm shower that evening. No problemo.

The beach was really nice. We would spend the morning on the right side (when facing the ocean) and then switch to the left side, around the corner and to the left of the buffet. The wind on the beach tends to increase during the late morning hours and the left side afforded a fair amount of calm and the hot tropical sun until 5:00pm everyday.

The entertainment was good some evenings and a pretty hokey at other times. I'm ok with that. The way I see it unless I'm willing to pop the big bucks for a 5 star resort (which I'm unlikely to do) I will take the entertainment as the animation staff sees fit to present it. Again, no problem.

What else can I share? The beach vendors are very much in attendance but a polite "no thank you" will send them on their way. I have found that the Dominican vendors will accept rejection much more graciously than any of the vendors I've encountered on the beaches in Mexico. The Lifestyles sales staff on the resort may try to wrangle you into a timeshare presentation but they are easily shut down too.

Overall we found this to be an excellent destination resort. Very little in the way of negatives and we would go back with no reservations.

'Nuff said.
