My husband and I spent 7 days at the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada. We were very satisfied and would return. Before leaving from Canada, I made sure to read reviews and pointers from tripadvisor (which some other people should do instead of complaining), therefore we could take certain precautions to have a great holiday. Airport not too far from hotel (that's a +) only 30 minutes, allowing you to admire the scenery and way of life. Arriving in our room facing the garden, our safe was not working properly so an hour later we were transferred to another room. I enjoyed the balcony we had facing the garden. As for the meals we are not fussy people and we mostly eat veggies, there were plenty and fresh. We met with our West Jet rep and took two days of tours which were great, ( I recommend this, you learn more of the culture). Before leaving Quebec I brought a view items to share, which was good because one of our tours included visiting a school in the country side and we distributed coloring books, coloring pencils to the younger ones and also candies. At the resort, the maintenance workers appreciated the working gloves and and chaimbermaids the make-up I had purchased on sale during the year along with the daily tip. On our tour we really enjoyed visiting the rum factory, visiting the farm and horseback riding. The weather was fabulous, only one morning of light rain. Entertainment was very good, people would participate in activites such the kareoke one evening and another; the beach party involving participation of the audience. Overall it was a great holiday and as a couple we enjoyed learning about culture and history...unfortunately our stay was not long enough to learn more about the history and culture. Last but not least, there was a time sharing rept. on the resort who made us visit a time sharing resort, not worth it.... just like an ant nest and costly (don't fall for it). Oh about the vendors on the beach, they are just trying to make a living, my tactic was to say NO NO NO and look away ( although when interested, there were a few items I purchased). Most of my shopping was done downtown on our tours. So remember folks we are not in Canada anymore, with all our commodies, so just appreciate where we do come from and what we have is a privilege.
