“Enjoyable walk,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We took a cab to Sosua Beach to check out the vendors. They are very insistant. We met an older lady there who spoke excellent English and is the representative of a Ladies Craft Coop in Sosua. The beach itself is accessable only from the boat launch or from paths leading from the vendors area. You must pay the vendor to use "his" path and section of beach. If you leave his section, you must pay the next vendor for using "his" section.

“perla rosada the haitian spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Best beach in the area! Nice cove, with opportunities to snorkle and enjoy various water sports...the dominicans take tourists out in glass bottom boats, tubing, or banana boating. I believe fishing is also available. The vendor haitians and dominicans are a little annoying with selling things and offering braids, but you can simply say no. gotta respect their hustle.
the best spot on the beach is Perla Rosada, about halfway down the beach and run by Haitians, Jeffery is the best and will take GOOD care of you. English/French/Spanish speaking. You can order drinks, or food...the fried fish and plaintain is absolutley amazing.....at the entrance of the beach is also THE best BBQ chicken spot called BIG D'S CHICKEN! must try...he cooks it with a special sauce thats to die for!! I was living in Sosua for almost two years and this was my spot every single day....again jeff is THE BEST!!
sundays on the beach are usually the busiest day....this is when all the locals come and hangout...any other day it varies between being packed and empty...the waves are usually small (unless it rains) and the beach has clean white sand. Los Charamicos on the opposite side of the beach is a little local dominican town with the best local food as well....worth a walk around if youre not afraid of stepping outside resort territory....

“Best beach on the North Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

There may be other options on the North Coast, but Sosua Beach is by far the best. Puerto Plata doesn't have any real nice beaches, Playa Dorado is overrun with tourists and Cabarete is too windy, but comes alive at night. Sosua has the right mix of great sand, clear blue water, mix of locals and tourists and good restaurant/beach service. Park on the street and let Freddie watch your car while you're gone. Pass all of the aggressive vendors on your way to Scandinavian Beach Bar and Grill and let them set you up on the beach. The food at Scandinavian Beach Bar and Grill is excellent and the beach service is awesome. I generally ignore the beach vendors, but find that a small tip to a few of them will allow you the space you need to relax and not be bothered.

“Beautiful, but small Beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We just wanted to walk down the beach, but we asked by about 40 men if we needed beach chairs for the day. "Cheapy Cheapy" yea, ok. The tide was really high and the waves would go all the way to the seawall, so you'd need a chair. We left & went back to Cabarate.
