We stayed at El Palacio before it was renovated, back in 1974! I loved it for its exotic antique style as well as its central location (we could walk to many other historic sites like the palace of Cristoforo Colombo). I hope it hasn't been TOO modernized, but the exterior certainly doesn't indicate that. It just appears cleaned and brightened.

I was surfing the net, and I stumbled on the site to this hotel. On a whim I booked one night. Upon my arrival I was blown away by the most amazing room! I loved it so much I stayed 4 additional nights. A real palace in the heart of the colonial area. I stayed in the suite and I felt like a real princess in a PALACE!! I highly recommend Hotel Palacio. STAY THERE!!! You will not regret it.

Restored colonial hotel, charming,economical,and within walking distance of the Conde (open mall) in Santo Domingo's historic colonial zone! Former residencia of the President.
