“Perfect location in Santo Domingo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2012

We stayed just one night in Santo Domingo and were so happy we stayed at Hotel Palacio. The service was just amazing. The staff was helpful and happy to answer any question.

The location of this hotel is perfect--it's around the corner from the main touristy street, so it's not too loud, but you're close to the main historic sites.

The room we stayed in was spacious and clean, if not decorated in the most modern way. The bathroom was extremely spacious and nice. The fitness center looked a little uninviting, and the pool was closed the day we were there (but looked nice).

The included breakfast was fantastic and included every breakfast item you could think of. They even made pancakes to order. Delicious!

We stayed a week in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in January of 2012. Luckily picked out the Palacio Hotel in the Zona Colonial and were so delighted with the beauty, staff, breakfast, location and the lovely room. Price was right too! Cannot rate this hotel too highly as it was such a surprise - much better than the website depicted. Everything to see in the Zona which is the highlight of the city was easily within walking distance and the restaurants, especially on the Ozama River front, were reasonably priced with outstanding food. It was so much more a DR experience than staying in one of the bigger, more luxurious, which were lacking in any kind of cultural experience. The people and tourist police are so gracious and very protective of tourists in the area. This country was a genuine travel surprise and we very highly recommend you consider. Five days in the city are not too much to soak in the history of Columbus and the exploration of the Carribean. Kathy and Jerry, Washington State

Room Tip: We recommend a first floor room in the older part of the hotel.

Excellent place to stay. The staff go out of their way to welcome you and make you feel good. The food for bkf is great, the pool is super and the rooms are fabulous. I was on business and would return. The hotel is close to markets and some very fine resturants. Don't pass this hotel up.

My wife and I stayed two nights as the first part of our 15th Anniversary celebration in late January 2012. Even though we arrived about 10:30 p.m., staff was available immediately too check us in and get us to our room. We had communicated previously with the hotel management to arrange a taxi cab for pickup at SDQ. The driver was standing with a sign at the exit from customs, ready to drive us to the hotel. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom had a large walk in shower and lights that turned on automatically when you walked toward it. Storage was spacious. At first this was a nuisance as it created a lot of light in the sleeping area but when we closed the door to about 6 inches, it proved to be a great "night light"! WIFI worked quite well. We slept through breakfast the first morning and left quite early the second morning and took our meals away from the hotel and so cannot comment on the food. However, the menu looked good. The location is about 40 meters/120 feet to Calle Conde, the shopping street. We walked the length several times and always felt comfortable and safe. We spent some time in a sidewalk cafe doing people watching. Very interesting time.

Room Tip: Send an e-mail to the hotel to request a "quiet" room.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel from dec 28-jan 1 celebrating our anniversary. If u are looking for the hilton please go elsewhere. This hotel gives you a warm and welcoming feeling. We had a few problems- 1. Our jacuzzi was not working properly 2. Noise from the street 3. No wash cloths only hand towels. The staff was GREAT! We had a problem with noise the first night (side street there are apts across from hotel) and we wanted to change rooms and the overnight clerk had no clue what I was saying. My spanish is next to none so that was very frustrating. The next day was better. The hostess spoke with the person causing the noise and we did not have any problems the rest of our stay. Wow can we say customer satisfaction!!! Another hostess saw us in the city (off duty) recognized us and asked if we were ok and if we needed assistance with anything. They made our first stay in the DR an amazing one! Even if the city got overwhelming we knew we could retreat to the safe comfort zone aka hotel palacio. Food was ok. We had the senior suite so of course the room was lovely and spacious. Housekeeping was great nothing went missing and they cleaned promptly and efficiently. Give them a chance and you won't be disappointed!

Everytime I go to the Dominican Republic I stay at Hotel Palacio. It's a very convinient hotel in the Colonial Zone, close to everything. The staff is very friendly and professional. I go to DR every year and stay at this hotel... I really recommend it.

Although we were in Santo Domingo over the Easter holiday and many places were closed, we had an abolutely wonderful weekend there! Starting with Hotel Palacio..... We did our feeble-best with Spanish and they reciprocated with being warm and gracious hosts. The layout of the hotel provides wonderful little nooks that are charming and relaxing. The location is perfect - just a couple blocks from the main pedestrian street and maybe ten or so blocks from the restaurants on the malecon (which we found to be an easy & safe walk at night). .. Food ..... The food on the malecon was wonderful - Pat n' Palo exceeded our expectations for fresh seafood. And the little square at the river-side end of the pedestrian walkway had several fun places... a good breakfast joint on the western corner and a terrific bar/restaurant on the eastern corner that had awesome curry fish... and terrific wait-staff. .. If you have time, hire a driver and drive through the main part of town & see the government buildings - very, very nice! .. We would go back to Santo Domingo.... anytime, anyday, anyway! .. And would definitely return to Hotel Palacio---- Thank you!
