While visiting The dominican this past summer, i had the wonderful oppertunity to visit the beach boca chica. it was breath taking with it's clean white sand, and clear tropical waters. the water is warm, and you can walk out to a reef, which is equally breath taking. (watch out for the sea urchins though while walking to it!) there are jet skis to rent, and my favorite part,, the banana boats! they are rafts that look like banana's, built for 5 people. they are pulled by a motor boat, through twists and turns and are available all the time. they only cost 50 pesos,,, 40 if you do some bargaining, which is only about 1.20 in american money, for about half an hour. it is wonderful. it is a great place to go and relax and enjoy it's tranquil settting. dont give into the sales people, be poliete, but stern, they will talk you into buying anything, but the closer you stay to the ocean, they will stay away. it is definitley a version of heaven on earth, dont miss out!!

Just thought i would tell folks about a very nice stay i had tt el candil on my last excursion to boca chica.

Gueseppi and petteri couldnt have been more gracious and accomodating hosts. And as a single traveler they looked out for me without becoming to intrusive. Oh...and it was only 40 bucks a night! and NICE!!!!

The beach is great.....they really work hard to keep in clean....it DOES get crowded on sundays with many folks from santa domingo making the most of the day off. i totaly LOVED sunday there tho. It was so quiet for most of the time...that the fiesta atmosphere on the beach on sunday was fun.

i recommend the restaurant located in the main plaza in the center of town. It just opened...i believe it is german owned...but i got some great fish there as well as some "decent" breakfasts.

and i TOTALY recommend francesco's. Great local eats (pollo guisado...chicharones de pollo....pescado etc...all for about 70 pesos....hmmm...about 5 bucks.

Again the beach is great...its protected by a reef....so the water is very tranquil....you can wade out for nearly ever...then it gets deap for about a 5-10 min swim....then you can explore mitaxa (a itty bitty island) where the snorkeling is great.

now...i you want a beach with a bit more surf....you can take a 10 minute bus ride (for 10 pesos....about a penny)...and check out embassy beach.

GO...have fun..its a great and affordable place to get away to!

The sky is blue, water warm and the sand is sandy - just like everywhere else.
Boca Chica is a great beach, but unlike many other beaches this one gets crowded, by both locals and
tourist due its close proximity to the capital Santo Domingo (you can catch a bus for about 10 pesos).
Unless you're staying at a hotel in Boca Chica, it would be wise to get there early in order to claim your
palm tree (shade!), on the eastern (in front of the hotels) side of the beach.
Don't worry about food, local vendors are always around and there are local restaurants that front right
onto the beach, in case you get bored with the water or sunbathing there is also a place where you can rent
a pool tables by the hour. Local vendors selling everything and anything also walk up and down the beach
all day so unless you look asleep they will pester you ever time they go by. The beach is situated in a lagoon
so there's no surf or waves (it doesn't get very deep either).
During my time in the Dominican Republic I spent many a happy day on this beach and have a lot of
memories from it. Basically - a great spot!!
