“Very nice building with a hidden secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

This is a very nice building that hosts the remains of some of the heroes of this country. It is guarded by a soldier in uniform all the time and it is a very nice place to visit. It has one secret that even some Dominican's don't know about. Up high towards both sides. There are 4 windows covered in framed crosses. If you pay close attention there is something hidden in the design of the crosses, you will find the nazi SS symbol hidden in between the crosses. It is difficult or impossible to see if you are not looking for it. The crosses are designed into the spaces between the frames and are really easy to see with the background light. The SS hidden symbol is hidden in between the frames. Once you see it you can see the marvel of the design. The way it was explained to me is that during the rise of Nazi Germany. The DR did not want to anger some Nazi visitors to the country and showed them how they were with them by means of this design. But at the same time they could hide it to the rest of the world as it is not apparent unless it is pointed out to you. This is very good very clever design. This alone is worth the visit

“perhaps of most interest to dominican visitors”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

skip this if you're not dominican. the space is forgettable and since we weren't fluent or familiar with the national heroes, there was not much to hold our interest

“A Guide Would Have Been Helpful Here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

This is a very patriotic mausoleum dedicated to Dominicans who have died. The three founders of the DR are buried here as well as the people who assassinated Trujillo. There isn't very good signage and it would have been helpful to have it all explained. Good to see though either way.
