I stayed at this resort for 5 nights from 8/29-9/3 on a vacation with my best friend. My overall stay in DR was amazing!!! However my experience with the resort was only okay. I only spent a day and a half at te resort. The other days were spent on excursions and in santo domingo.
THE GOOD- beautiul beach with pristine water! Staff was helpful on a case by case basis. Even if you dont know much, try and speak Spanish. Don't immediately ask for someone who speaks English. Learn some basics and do your best. Once they saw me trying to do that they were immediatley more willing to help. My friend speaks a decent amout of Spanish and made or entire trip easier.
Although I didn't care for the buffet, which made me sick,(more below on that), the Mango snack bar had excellent Dominican chicken, rice, beans and even an okra stew. I would stay away from the hamburgers and hot dogs. I also enjoyed the food at the Mexican restaurant. We ate at the Pelican and it was very good. Be prepared to pay quite a bit. We purchased the lobster dinner on the beach and it was THE BEST meal we had the entire trip. Lobster was huge and cooked perfectly!
Activities- my friend took out a kayak one morning and had a nice time. We also played ping pong and frisbee on the beach. We REALLY wanted to play volleyball but the ball was extremely hard and they had no pump to make it softer- disappointed.
The bartenders were all very nice to us. At almost every visit they made a specialty cocktail for us. Tipping also helps.
THE BAD- we stayed in a garden view room and it was doable but not as clean as I would have liked. The floors were dirty and the bathroom was very outdated and questionable. I didn't necessarily need an updated room but cleanliness is mandatory! The walls are very thin and you can hear everything!! If you are particular about pillows I would bring your own.
THE FOOD at the the buffet is terrible. Don't eat the cheese or the meat. After getting sick from food, I found that the only thing I could eat from there was fresh fruit, bread, and muffins. I would avoid the lunch and dinner buffets at all costs. The Italian restaurant was also horrible! Don't waste a reservation on it. Would have liked to have tried the Dominican restaurant but didnt since it was open only a couple of times a week.
I did not visit the spa, casino or disco so review does not reflect any of those.
I paid very little to stay here so am not disappointed as a whole. However, I would not stay at this resort again. Sad because they have the real estate to be an amazing resort.
