My wife and I booked a trip online and paid with a credit card for a week of diving and hotel at Anchorage. When we arrived Anchorage had cancelled our room and dives. Our credit card refund was only returned after we contacted the credit card company. Anchorage was very difficult with us. Luckily our entire vacation was not ruined, because we were able to find a great dive center with hotel nearby to accomidate us at the last minute.

The Anchorage is located about a mile south of the center of Rouseau via a rather unattractive street with many small homes. The hotel is right on the water and is a dive and whale watching center. There is a swimming pool but no beach. The restaurant is adequate and the hotel itself is a bit eccentric but the people who work there are very nice and helpful. It is substantially cheaper but not as nice as the Fort Young, probably the most elegant hotel in town. A comparable alternative to the Anchorage is the nearby Evergreen which is smaller but has a particular good restaurant. You will be satisfied with your stay at the Anchorage.

I had the best time. Absolutely loved the island atmosphere. Very simple, laid back and relaxing. Right on the water. All the rooms have a balcony. Amazing diving trips and awesome whale and dolphin watches. Good food and entertainment, especially on Thursday nights with a band and buffet. This place is where you want to be if you enjoy the island atmosphere, diving, and nature.

The diving here was very good (although we had boat issues on each of our dive trips), the room large, and the food pretty good. The staff was pleasant as were all of the local people we met. The location overlooking the water is nice and it is walking distance from Roseau. No whales on our whale watching trip (we went in May 2004). I did not get the feeling that there was a lot of diversity in the diving (the sites all looked a bit similar with the exception of Champagne), but they were very pretty with a lot of small fish life and colorful corals. The hike to the Trafalgar waterfall was very beautiful. Our guide was great!
