We loved our stay at Hibiscus.

Our trip was last minute, with all the vagaries of standby travel & Daniel was very flexible. The cooks accomodated our vegan diet ( Nigel was great!) and the food, though sometimes a tad sparse & repetitive, was always tasty & fresh. The staff was friendly, outgoing, and happy. Tubing with Justinian ( the #1 river tubing guide on the island) was a wonderful experience ( we'll try to go back for moonlight tubing next trip) and the twin falls were a highlight. Don't bother to go to emerald pool when a cruise ship is in town, though! The river across the street is a beautiful one & we loved swimming in it every morning & evening.

We knew the facilities would be spartan and had no problem with the one time water & electricity outage. This is part of the islands! If you want luxury & wretched excess, go elsewhere! (Do use your mosquito net, though, and you can put the standing fan inside.)

My one criticism would be that there could be even more done in terms of eco practices, but Daniel & staff seemed very receptive to and appreciative of most suggestions! A minor point.

GO! Dominica is beautiful & Hibiscus is a great place to experience the island hospitality and to be light on the eco system.

I traveled to the Hibiscus Inn during mid-August with my girlfriend. We could not imagine a place so beutiful and friendly. Now this Inn is not for the person who wants room service or jacuzzis. The rooms have a shower but they are cold water, they also advertise mysquito netting but there is not a mysquito on the island so they are not needed. This place is meant for the eco-traveler, you bathe in the river, use solar electricity and best of all the hotel manager (Daniel) will take you just about anywhere you desire. Just ask him, he will take you to places that most tourists don't go. The best was the day he took us to Sari Sari Falls and on the way back we stopped at a local (and I mean real local) restaurant to eat fresh fish. We can't wait to come back someday.....

“Great Intoduction to Dominica”

Had a wonderful stay at the charming Hibiscus Valley Inn in march of 2005. This is not a luxury resort, so if you are looking for all of the comforts of home this is not the place for you. However, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the food was not fancy but delicious and the staff was excellent. Our Swedish host Andreas, was incredibly knowledgeable. He was instrumental in helping us to explore the island, by directing us to spectacular waterfalls and beaches, and explaining the various political and ethnic conditions on the island.

Our group was comprised of myself, my wife and two children (6 and 8) and my wife's parents. We all had an excellent time. The river is just across the road and is great for a refreshing dip. One small drawback is that the inn is located right on one of the main roads. This did not turn out to be much of a problem since there is not too much traffic to begin with and once night fell there is almost no traffic at all. All in all though, we look forward to going back!

“Hibiscus is paradise”

Hibiscus Valley Inn

Dear readers, Hibiscus valley inn is truly the paradise that nature-loving travellers seek. Imagine waking up in a beautiful tropical garden, with the sound of birds and leaves. Bathing in the crystal clear river is such fun, who needs a bathroom! There is electricity, but I loved the idea of using the solar energy. Fresh fish from the sea port nearby is a main dish. Moon lit nights are so romantic, just relaxing in the hammock, admiring the natural beauty of the environment.

“Eco tourism at its best!”

Me and my wife had a wonderful week during our stay at Hibiscus Valley Inn in December, 2004.

The guest house offered exactely what we were looking for, a nature experience out of the ordinary. We loved relaxing in the hammocks on the veranda, falling asleep listening to the sounds of the river and the rain forest.

We also did some great and informative tours around the island with the guide from the guest house.

We enjoyed the local food served by Vincia.

In all, me and my wife strongly recommend Hibiscus Valley Inn for all those who wish to get away from the stress in our daily lifes and get a real nature experience!
