This is a paddle-boat operation based on a river that winds through a thick mangrove forest. The paddle boats are in top condition, and the operator is extremely safety conscious with two-way radios linking the boats back to the base (you go out without a guide, but there are no real choices to make: follow the river!). Mangrove Bay Tours is located right on the main road between Calibishie and Woodford Hill. You pick up the boat, and paddle away (we had two adults paddling and a kid between us steering). In no time, you are in the midst of what seems to be a primeval forest. There are crabs, birds and lizards throughout (not in the boat of course!). You head out for about 25 minutes then back in about the same.
Very reasonably priced. Similar feeling to the Indian River tours without a guide nattering at you throughout.
This is not "extreme" tourism (like much of Dominica is!) but was relaxing and a fun break from the more demanding hikes and other activities on the island. Our eight-year-old loved it, and we adults enjoyed the hour very much also.
