June 17th, 2008. My wife and I just returned from a 9 day stay at Crescent Moon Cabins. If you are looking for a relaxing yet adventurous trip, complete with 5 star dining and proprietors that make you feel like family, then this is the place! Tucked away on a beautiful ridge overlooking the Caribbean ocean, we enjoyed cool upland temperatures as we sat in the open air dining area and ate some of the most incredible food we have ever tasted. No doubt, being on vacation always makes everything seem better, but the food here is truly outstanding. Ron, and his wife Jean along with their daughter Tiana and her partner David and son Leo, are incredible hosts, and are always there for you, whatever you might need (from homemade soap to bush tea and wonderful rum punch). There are so many things to do and see on this island and we barely scratched the surface, but whatever you do, always be sure you are back at the cabins for dinner as nothing on the island compares to the meals you can get here. Crescent Moon’s hosts are very knowledgeable about the island and are very helpful in setting up day trips and arranging for things such as diving, snorkeling, hiking or a day at the beach. Don’t bother renting a car. The roads are narrow, curvy and not well marked. Crescent Moon will make all driving arrangements and it is very affordable. You also get to look at the scenery instead of worrying about who is coming around the next blind curve. This island is not for those looking for luxury and creature comforts, it is more of an “eco-island” in that there are no big resorts, fast food restaurants (accept for the KFC in Roseau) or highways cutting through the island. The pace of life is slow, relaxed and everyone is friendly. Take some hikes to beautiful waterfalls, spend time talking to the locals, drink some bush tea or bush rum, enjoy a Kubuli or two (the local beer). Oh, and make sure to try Ron’s cocoa tea, it’s wonderful!
