We, a couple from Germany, spent our holidays in November 2007 on the beautiful island of Dominica. As there is only little information about this island and especially where to stay, we decided to spend two weeks at the Crescent Moon Cabins. We just knew the information we found on their homepage and nothing more. But we believe this was the most beautiful and wonderful place we could choose. It is situated in the rich green mountains half way from Roseau (Dominicas´ capital) and Pont Cassé near a little town called Sylvania. If we hadn´t had a detailed description we wouldn´t have found it. The way up to Crescent Moon Cabins was an adventure! Also nature around the cabins is amazing. From each of the four cabins, you have a wonderful view to the caribbean sea. And all the buildings fit lovely into the landscape. The four cabins all have bathrooms, a big room and a big veranda. When it gets dark, and this happens very early in Dominica, there is an amazing noise of all the animals living there. Bats come and fly around (we recommend to let doors open so that they can get out of the cabin again).
We want to say a big thank you to Ron, Jean, Tiana and all the people working at CMC! Ron is a great chef! We´ve never ate such good meals! You´ll have to taste the meals he makes. As we arrived in the morning and after the first walks around we were asked if we stay for dinner. We agreed as the first day is difficult to find something. Then the surprise started as the dinner in the jungle was a three course menu coming along with warm homemade bread, self grown super tasty salad, a delicious main course and a self made sweet satisfying all our wishes. Besides an overwhelming nature with no! (really no) mosquitos we had by pure incidence found a real treat for our delight to eat. And nearly everything is home-grown. All the fruits and vegetables are organic grown in their own greenhouse (just ask Jean and she will explain everything to you). There are also own goats which give the milk for soft cheese, blue cheese, crème fraiche, buttermilk and yoghurt. Everything which has to do with milk is done by Ron on his own as there are no milk products in Dominica (cattle are only bread for meat, not for milk). He also roasts the coffee by himself and also the eggs are from their chicken.
Whenever you need a recommendation what to do or where to go, just ask Ron or Tiana. They always know a place and they have a great joice of maps and books about Dominica. Everything we did was amazing! It is also possible to book guided tours at CMC. Just ask Ron or Tiana. The CMC is also the ideal spot to make trips due to its location. But we strongly recommend a car during your stay at Dominica. It´s easier to discover the island. And it has many things to discover!
Finally, we want to say a big THANK YOU to Ron, Jean, Tiana, Leo and Boris (the dog) for the familiar atmosphere, the great food, the amazing deserts and everything they did for us. We will certainly come back and stay at CMC!
