We stayed two weeks at Sea Cliff cottages and loved the beautiful view of Hodges bay.

The cottages are located in a well kept tropical garden in the middle of a luxurious nature, on a small hill dominating the green and unspoiled bay. A small track is going down to the beach of dark volcanic sand.

People are easy going, smiling and friendly as often found when making a small effort to go off the beaten mass tourism tracks.

The small houses are comfortable and life easy with plenty of tropical fruits (outstanding grapefruits there), exceptionnally fresh Tuna, Marlin , King Fish ...etc which can be found not far away and BBQ'ed. Not to forget rum purchased from the barrel in the village !

Beautiful night sky with no light pollution.

Jim and Gwen, the owners, are friendly and helpful.

In summary , a perfect heaven to rest from urban stress.

Dominica is not set up to cater to tourists. That's the beauty of the island. The island, and it's people are what you get, and they are a tremendous experience.------ Sea Cliff Cottages, however, will make certain that you have/get anything you need to explore and enjoy this wonderful part of the world. The cottages are modern, fully equipped, clean, and are located in a breath taking setting. The staff are such neat people. They make sure you have fresh fruit each day. Numerous species of fruit trees are all around the cottages for your enjoyment. Go out in the morning and pick a lime, a mango, pecans, and other fruits. --Pascal will pick you up at the airport, take you go get grocerys, and check with you several times a day to see if you need anything. Gweneth will make sure you have towels, etc, and will bring a smile to you each day. Agustus will be there too untill late night to make sure all is well, and to bring you fruit. Haig, the gardener, is an expert on the plants and trees in the area and enjoys telling you about them. Let the staff help you to understand the local culture. They are a friendly people who enjoy seeing you come to calibishie. --For the experience of a lifetime don't miss this place!

Sea Cliff Cottages

Looking on the Internet we came across a few hotels that offer wedding packages, but after reading the reviews on Sea Cliff and visiting their website we were hooked. It looked beautiful. It looked exactly what we were looking for. After emailing the owners (Jim & Gwen) we had made up our mind. The only problem that we had was where to hold the wedding!!!

We spent a year planning our wedding and as I have never been to Dominica before, I wasn't certain how it was going to turn out?
As my wife’s family is from Dominica I have witness some of its beauty and heard many stories about the country long before we had even thought of getting engaged much less choosing Dominica as the place of our wedding, but that still did not prepare me for the beauty and greenery or the friendliness of the people of Dominica.

My wife’s family that has now become my family are from the southern part of the island, Grand Bay and as she was raised there and since then returned a few times to visit she was keen to see another part of Dominica.

She had visited Portsmouth before and liked it so much that when we were looking for places to stay it was an obvious choice to choose somewhere in the North.
Following many emails and arrangements the wedding was all set to run!

We arrived in Dominica at night. Waiting at the airport was Pascal. He got our luggage and in we got into his truck. Speaking all the way to Sea Cliff, which is only a 20 minutes ride away, he pointed out the local villages, Wesley and Woodford Hill and then Calibishie. I took the brave option and sat in the back with my wife and 3 children sitting in the cab with Pascal.

When we arrived waiting on the veranda with a smile on her face was Gwyneth. (Gwyneth is the manager of Sea Cliff) She welcomed us and gave us a tour of what was going to be our home for the next 4 weeks.
A nice 2 bedroom Cottage with an open plan front room and kitchen. This was large enough and although it does need a bit of updating it suited us fine.
Though the 1 bed cottage accommodated three of our friends from back home who took part in the wedding. This cottage was more updated than the 2 bedrooms.

Arriving at night, not been able to appreciate the full beauty this place had to offer, we sat on the veranda, listening to the sea. We could hear it lapping up onto the shore.

After a very good night sleep (the fans in the bedrooms helped) my wife and I woke up at 4am to watch the sun coming up. It was so peaceful! With the waves splashing on the shore we just had to go for a walk.

At this time our youngest woke up and wanted to come to explore like we did. We set off in the direction of a footpath that leads down the cliff. Surrounded by trees we were completely in the shade of the sun that was already beginning to get warm. When we got to the bottom we was welcomed with a lovely beach.
After spending some time at the beach we made our way back to our cottage which was the first time we saw the grounds in daylight .We was overwhelmed with all the fruit trees(that you can help yourself to) and flowers and the views of the sea. When we then met Hague the gardener who is warm mannered and only to happy to point out the different types of fruits and flowers.

We got married in a local church in Wesley a short distance from the cottages and held the reception for forty guess at on the grounds of the cottages.

Jim & Gwen was very kind in using their home to hold the dinner

During our stay we attended the World Creole Festival In the capital Roseau.
Wendy picked us up and made sure we safely got back home, we had a wonderful time.

Jim & Gwen who have adopted Dominica as their home and also own the cottages made us feel truly very welcomed and that we picked the right country and location to get married. (Gwyneth – Manager, Pascal – security and handy man (Pascal can also be counted on for advice for the island), Augustus – security, Hague – gardener made sure that everything went smoothly through out our 4 week stay.
Dominica may be poor but yet so very rich. It’s virtually impossible to go without food as vegetation is so lush.

A very BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!!
And will see you all Soon!

I highly recommend a visit to anyone who likes to get away from it all!

Enjoy its innocence & beauty while it lasts!

we stayed at Sea Cliff Cottages November 2004 and highly recommend them to anyone who wants peace and tranquility with an amazing view to go with it. Jim and Gwen were very friendly and helpful hosts. There were fruit trees on the property that we were allowed to eat from any time we wanted to. The cabins were clean and airy and very comfortable. Local friends were available to cook meals made with local fare or take us on a guided tour of any site on the island. we would definately stay there again!

Just returned from my 8th visit to Dominica and my first stay at Sea Cliff cottages. This is the perfect place to stay if you are new to the island and it is great for seasoned visitors. Jim, Gwen and the staff are
a wealth of knowledge and the cottages are in a perfect location.
The cottages were very well kept and extremely comfortable.
One of my favorite things about Dominica is when you want something,
all you need do is ask. If that person doesn't have it...they will direct
you. Put out the word that you are looking for a fresh lobster, we got
a huge one (4lbs) for $13.00 US. It was wonderful! If you like adventure
you will love this place! Great hikes, nice beach, unspoiled jungles and
clean fresh streams and rivers everywhere. And such an abundance of
fresh tropical fruits. I can't wait to return.
