Owner description: Savonet Museum is the newest Museum of Curacao! This Museum is a unique concept located at the heart of the Christoffelpark, the largest nature reserve on the island. Established in the former plantation house, called “landhuis”, of the Savonet Plantation. It gives visitors a peek into the lives of the former inhabitants of the area, full of inside information and views. From the first Arowak Indians who came to the island almost 4000 years ago up to modern times. Modern audio- visual concepts, historical artefacts, faces of descendents of the former slaves, photography, completely restored antiques and much more give the museum the tools to tell a diverse story of interdependence between humans and nature, cultural history and natural history.

“Small, but Interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

A smaller, but interesting museum. There were a couple creepy exhibits here that struck up some interesting conversations. Old plantation. Lots of artifacts and history to be learned here.

“Interesting museum but I missed the open air part”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

Excellent place to visit if you want to get to know more about the history of Curacao and especially the way of life of slaves at this Landhuis. I was a bit disappointed about the open air part because there don't seem to be any slave huts to be visited although the folder did say so.

“Average, self-paced museum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Interesting stuff but needs some attention as others have stated. It's a good thing entry was free on this "special occasion" for the Savonet area. There were some interesting items and write-ups on the walls. Also, there were video stations where you could sit and watch what I assumed were recordings by locals about the slave trade history. However, the audio was off and no one told us there was anything we could do to hear it. So we just wandered from room to room reading the articles on the walls and looking at the artifacts.

For what seemed like the most comprehensive coverage of the Caribbean slave trade history, visit Kura Hulanda Museum in Willemstad.

“Needs some work”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

There is clearly a very interesting story to be told with the artifacts but the design of this museum is very poor. There is no clear direction through the exhibits and the audio guide pieces are long, rambling and frequently wander off topic. There are some interesting pieces but it requires some digging to get there.
With some work this museum could be a good attraction, but as it is now, it would be a disappointment if you go out of your way to see it.

“Good day trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

I'm a history buff...visit the museum first, then drive around the grounds. Rent the recorders that give a verbal presentation of the exibits. Makes you realize just how hard life was on the plantation. it's recently opened, and needs some more attention, but a good attraction.
