“Paradise in Willemstad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

This is a little paradise
A wonderful quiet hotel in the middle of town
Actually it is more like a small village with restaurants and bars and of course the wonderful pools
When we were there the place was rather empty, we could not find any menus for the restaurants ( the marketing concept may need some re-thinking)
We had a big room with A/C, TV and fridge and a huge bathroom.
In the evening we could sit on the balcony.
Really worth a visit! - you can walk in from the kura hulanda museum

Room Tip: Pay a visit to the kura hulanda museum, lots of interesting things.

Stayed here for 3 nights on business in Curaçao. It's a funky hotel - definitely not your typical Hilton experience! The layout is set-up to replicate the old cobblestone streets and the "setting" is, um, unique. Lots of sculptures of "blackface" slaves and signs that say things like, "You never get out of life alive".

Rooms are very nice and comfortable. There was some plumbing issues in my bathroom (see my other reviews - I seem to always have bad luck with bathrooms) but they were fixed. The shower is in an old, raised bathtub that is treacherous to get in and out of, but definitely unique. Everything was very clean and bed was comfortable. Internet is NOT good - slow and intermittent (but free!). Try to log on to the "Kura Museum" hotspot instead of the default "Kura Hulanda" wifi. It's much better and faster.

The highlight was Friday evening Happy Hour. Had a lovely evening listening to live jazz and eating an excellent meal of stir fry. The hotel chef is a gem - super friendly and eager to please. I arrived late in the evening and he went out of his way to ensure that I got some kind of supper.

The Kura Hulanda is also a 5-minute walk to the waterfront (no beach there but there is a free shuttle if you want beach) and the local duty free mall. Very easy to get around.

I really liked the Kura Hulanda. There are small things I could get picky about (e.g. my porter not knowing where my room is???) but overall a nice change from the usual Hilton/Sheraton/etc... drill.

Room Tip: get a room that has access to the Kura Museum wifi if you want good internet.

Normally I'm the kind of person that only reads reviews but doesn't feel a need to add my own opinion. In this case I like to make an exception as the hotel deserves it. Before my 6 night stay I had read some not so positive reviews but still decided to give it a try. I felt so happy we need! Not a moment we regretted chosing Kura Hulanda. The hotel setting is beautiful. Historic houses brought back to life. No room is the same and each corner brings a new surprise. The hotel is an attraction in itself. Our house was near the sculpture garden. It was well maintained and very spacy. The historic feeling continues inside although with some modern touches such as flatscreen tv, airco, fridge and tea making facilities. The hotel has two nice swimmingpools. The location of the hotel is excellent. Using the exit at the Kura Hulanda museum side (also worth a visit) it is a two minute walk to the famous floating bridge and there are plenty of restaurants near by. There is also an option three times a week to use a free shuttle to the Kura Hulanda resort at the Westpunt where you can use their private beach. Getting there is a 40 minute drive which also gives you the opportunity to see a bit more of the island. It was not very busy during our visit but the hotel definitely deserves better!

Points of attention for the hotel staff: putting a basket with towels near the pool so that you don't need to search for someone, check and refill tea bags in the room. Breakfast was not included and with $25 a bit too expensive in our view. And yes, there were indeed some leaves in the pool, but on a windy island like Curacao that is hard to prevent and we saw also cleaning attempts, so not a big issue.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this hotel, which is located in the middle of the downtown area. It is not far away from most of the sites. There is security that constantly walks the premises. It is a beautiful and charming hotel. Our room had all that we needed: a TV, air conditioning, a nice big bathroom, and a comfortable bed, among a few other things. On Friday night, there was a happy hour with a live musician and a delicious made-to-order $10 wok. This was all outside, surrounded by beautiful buildings and lighting. The staff was very friendly as well. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and we wish we could have stayed there longer. It is a very good price compared to the other hotels too.

Kura Hullanda has two locations. We were first-time visitors to Curacao so split our stay between this in-town location and the beach location. I fondly recall the sugar birds swooping down at breakfast in their lovely courtyard. This location gave us a chance to explore Willemstad which we really enjoyed. The on-site restaurants and museum are excellent and we found the room ample. The service is excellent with one unfortunate footnote. Unfortunately I got sickso the Hotel promptly called their preferred doctor for me. He came promptly and did the exam in my room. Unfortunately he did not believe in modern medicine and tried to sell me high-priced supplements that worked better than normal medicine, claiming he had a special arrangement with the manufacturer. Bottom line = this is a wonderful place but don't get sick. If you do, don't use their doctor.

We stayed at this hotel in June/2013. We spent about 5 days there, and while it was really charming, it was not comfortable enough. They are houses converted into hotels, so it feels you are staying in a historical place. Location wise, it is very close to the city center, in a neighborhood called otrobanda. The pool was nice enough, albeit a bit smallish. Regarding the room, we got a classic colony themed room, with a small patio shared with another room. Wifi was weak. The downside: watchout for mosquitoes. There were quite a handful and the staff could not help. I'll definetely stay at the renaissance next time.

We were in Curacao for a couple of days and got to Kura Hullanda due to a friends recommendation. The resort has a lot of history to it which you can see when you are going around the property. The best thing about this place is it proximity to the Main Street if you want to buy groceries or go to the other side Punda. Very friendly staff 5 star to them specially Daryl the bell boy, Tamiko and Diana at front desk. They go out of their way to help you and make you comfortable. I say this since we were with our infant daughter and they helped us with anything we required. The rooms do need an upgrade though since they look dated specially as the place is not cheap. Keep up the good work!!!
