Perhaps our mistake in going on a Friday night, but this place was just not for us. They have taken a monumental building and completely gutted and rebuilt it with an open floor plan and grand staircase to a balcony upstairs, where our table was. The crowd was mostly the hip 30-something's, and made for a deafening noise where a conversation was impossible. After 10 minutes, I couldn't get out of there soon enough but toughed it out, thinking the meal would make up for the ambience.
Big disappointment...The food was just mediocre to OK, and certainly not up to the rave reviews on here. I had a grilled NY strip...a nice thick cut of tender beef but cooked medium, not rare as I had ordered. The red wine reduction was very runny, and not reduced to a sauce as it should be. The accompanying mashed potatoes were artful, but tasteless. The wife had a chicken pot pie that she liked, full of white meat and veggies with a puff pastry crust on top. The bread was excellent, but I was quite surprised to see it itemized on the check for fl 8; the waitress did ask if we wanted bread, but never said it was extra. Decent wines by the glass. We ordered a creme brûlée dessert and cappuccinos that took foreeever to come, but was great.
Many much better old favorites and new restaurants to explore on the island, so we likely won't come back to Kome.
