Description: Located in the historical district of Petermaai, Kome features a chef driven menu where worldly cooking techniques lay the foundation for the creative freedom Chef David and Pastry Chef Susan live for in the kitchen. The chefs cook things that make them happy, like homemade sausage, tasty sandwhiches, curry’s or stews; fried chicken, fresh bread, pie or something altogether surprising and new.

“Disappointing at best”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014 via mobile

Perhaps our mistake in going on a Friday night, but this place was just not for us. They have taken a monumental building and completely gutted and rebuilt it with an open floor plan and grand staircase to a balcony upstairs, where our table was. The crowd was mostly the hip 30-something's, and made for a deafening noise where a conversation was impossible. After 10 minutes, I couldn't get out of there soon enough but toughed it out, thinking the meal would make up for the ambience.
Big disappointment...The food was just mediocre to OK, and certainly not up to the rave reviews on here. I had a grilled NY strip...a nice thick cut of tender beef but cooked medium, not rare as I had ordered. The red wine reduction was very runny, and not reduced to a sauce as it should be. The accompanying mashed potatoes were artful, but tasteless. The wife had a chicken pot pie that she liked, full of white meat and veggies with a puff pastry crust on top. The bread was excellent, but I was quite surprised to see it itemized on the check for fl 8; the waitress did ask if we wanted bread, but never said it was extra. Decent wines by the glass. We ordered a creme brûlée dessert and cappuccinos that took foreeever to come, but was great.
Many much better old favorites and new restaurants to explore on the island, so we likely won't come back to Kome.

Dear Jeff E,

We wish to apologize for the poor experience you had, we are truly sorry. We pride ourselves in the food we serve and the service we extend to all our guests. We do appreciate your comments, we will discuss them with the team and learn from our mistakes.

Please accept our invitation for a dinner for two next time you are on Curacao, we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to make it right. We will make sure you have a table alongside the wall downstairs, it is quieter there. The big open space makes for some difficult acoustics sometimes.

Once again our apologies, we hope you can accept our invitation.

Kind regards,

Kome

“Good venue with Creative Dessert”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

My visit was in Nov'13 - with all the holiday craziness it took me a long time for this review, but here we go.

*Appetizer "Tuna Tartar" - Excellent. Tender, just melts in your mouth, soy/teriyaki based sauce had nice flavor. Served with sprouts and tasty Yuca chips.

*Main "Coconut Curry" - Moderate portion, Served with steamed white rice on the side, the curry has shrimp, fish, calamari etc. It was a little too mild for me, could use a bit more flavor & spices.

*Dessert "Pumpkin Coconut Cheesecake with Candied Bacon" - Yes "BACON" it's not a typo! It just sounded too interesting and naughty I could NOT resist even though I'm not the biggest fan of bacon. The cheesecake itself was perfectly smooth & spicy with Buttermilk Chantilly and strawberries on the side; the BACON in question is on top of the cheesecake like a proud flying flag, the sweet/salty combo was so unique (and unheard of...) but quite good, actually. I'm sure it has like 1000 cal but who cares? You're on vacation.

Overall I am pleased with my dinner, service was efficient, and the atomosphere is very nice.

“Highly overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014 via mobile

We went to Kome on our last night thinking it would be a nice end to our wonderful week on Curaçao. First of all we were seated in a very bright spot of the restaurant and upon asking the waitress if we could sit at another table we got a very cold and unfriendly look, she had to change her seat plan because of our request and she gave us the feeling we had asked too much. Bad attitude.

Once we were seated and ordered from the menu we got our drinks but no basket of bread, olives, amuse, etc. Very cheap. We didn't have time to drink our first glass of wine or starters had already been served (15 min after we had entered the restaurant). Food was ok but nothing special and the presentation was bland.

10 min after we had finished the starters the real fun starts, main course. We had a goat cheese pasta with sun dried tomatoes and chicken in puff pastry. Both very salty, taste lacking and again presentation below par. We were very disappointed.

Furthermore the ambiance is a lot of see and be seen. Also we both got the feeling that we should feel lucky that we were allowed to eat there. We were in and out in 50 min time!!

Kome was the worst experience in 8 days of eating out in Curaçao. I didn't communicate my problems to the staff as it was the whole concept from staff, ambiance, setting and cuisine that didn't live up to our expectations. They can't do anything about that on the spot but I do hope they read my review and take some points into consideration and change their attitude. Most likely they won't and will continue abusing their good name and reviews.

Dear AmsterdamVin,

We wish to apologize for the poor experience you had, we are truly sorry. We pride ourselves in the food we serve and the service we extend to our highly appreciated patrons. If you would have communicated to us that your experience was not up to par, we could/would have taken action to rectify the situation by replacing your dinner.

Our concept is to serve very good, fresh and thoughtful dishes and drinks for a reasonable price in a bustling and homey environment. We choose not to give away our homemade freshly baked breads and scratch cooked foods so we can keep our prices down for everyone. We realize it has become a trend in restaurants here and in the Netherlands to overcharge for menu items while pampering with "free" breads and amuses. We believe in honesty and charge fairly and will not give things away for free. Unless you feel like you have not received what you expected.

We train our staff to be proactive and intuitive, perhaps the waitress or server felt like you were in a hurry and asked for the dishes to be prepared quicker. It is absolutely not our intention to have you out of here within 50 minutes, we much rather have you taste some of our house infused liquors, try a cocktail or have a glass of vintage port with our artisans cheese platter. We love to share our knowledge and love for the craft with our guests that is why we are kome.

Once again we apologize for your poor experience; we would have appreciated the chance to make it right. Too bad we did not know that you felt this way, because we really do want you to feel like you had the most wonderful experience ever!
We will take your comments and learn from this so that we can continue to improve our service and food.

It hurts us dearly to find out too late that your experience was not up to standards, we have worked extremely hard on getting a good name. We will continue to improve ourselves so our name will stay synonymous with a good time and great food for a great price.

If you visit Curacao again, please except our invitation for a dinner for two.

Kind regards,

kome

Nice selection of dishes including locally-inspired fare, and the best cocktails we had on the island. Definitely worth a visit.

“World Class Cuisine.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

Our favorite restaurant on Curacao. Wednesday Tapas Night is our weekly reservation. The Chicken and Waffles w/ hot sauce is The Bomb! The house hot sauce really makes the dish special. My wife loves the Truffled risotto, which is very rich and creamy with Grana Padana cheese. The Fish Tacos are also very popular. Bas, the bartender, has world class experience and infuses many of his own liquor blends on site. His list of cocktails (of his own invention), is impressive indeed. The staff is warm, friendly, and eager to help with any request. Reservations are recommended.
