“Honeymoon resort it is not”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We arrived 12/21 and decided to meet with the worker at the desk to give her copies of our wedding invite and marriage license to prove we were in fact a honeymoon couple. She said we were one day's stay short of getting the whole honeymoon package (which I'm not sure what that consisted of because she never explained-nor did we really care).
However, we "made the cut" for a 1 morning breakfast in bed, 1 special romantic bed turn down night, 1 special dinner on the beach. Well, the breakfast was awful! All hot food was cold, eggs were watery, bacon was all fat, juice was warm, yogurt was awful. We never received our special bed turn down (it was suppose to occur on Christmas Day night) and we were never asked again about the special dinner on the beach or told how to arrange it.

The pools were awesome, very clean! There were a million loud kids around, especially by the main pool- which we only frequented a few times.

Our room was not very nice. The bathroom was dirty with other people's hair, our toilet overflowed all over the bathroom, hallway and into the room with the bed- which was on Christmas Eve. Although when I called to report it, they had someone there to fix and clean it up in like 5 minutes so that was a plus! But after that it smelled horrible in our bathroom every day thereafter.

On a daily basis, housekeeping would change our sheets and that's about it. Some restocked our toiletries but some didn't. I had to run around and find a cart with towels, toilet paper etc. to restock it ourselves.

The food at the Italian and Japanese places were good but the service at the buffet was not so good at times. Sometimes we left there after a meal without having anything to drink. We learned to stop at the bar to get a drink and bring it into the buffett eatery area.

I would suggest taking bug spray with you because I had a total of 32 mosquito bites during our 6 night stay. It was hard to sit outside each night to enjoy the entertainment because I'd have 6 or 7 new bites every morning.

I'd say everything at the resort was inconsistant. Except the weather and the snorkeling- it was awesome! We made it fun because we were with each other and out of the cold... but I wouldn't suggest this as a honeymoon resort.
I think it would be great for families/friends and there's a lot of activities for the children; hence why it's not very romantic. Not to mention, our "special honeymoon treats" were awful or just plain didn't happen. :(

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room on the third floor which gave a nice view of the sunsets.

Many of the rooms need to be upgraded

I would wait about a year visit go while the renovation is going on. Once converted over to the higher level brand I would expect it to be much better.

Right now there are only two acceptable buidings and one of them is considerably better than the other. Had to be moved a couple of times until the room was acceptable to a 3 star expectation. The staff did listen to out concerns and make the necessary accomodations.

The food is ok but with all food imported to the island it presents a challenge. The himitsu restaurant was very good along with the grille. There are no reservations or pagers for himitsu, the pager system should be implemented there so the does not need to be any confusion or quarrels with guests over who arrived first.

It would be good to have at least one a la carte restaurant during the day.

The entertainment staff is very good.

This was an extremely nice place for our dive vacation. Shore diving on their house reef was spectacular. One free dive per day also. Even the snorkling was great. Thousands of fish all real close to you. Food was very good. Ate at the Himitsu, DaMario, Bluewater Grille, and Oceana (literally on the beach on the sand) restaurants every night. Food was outstanding. Even the shrimp and scallops were not overcooked. All of the workers were polite and helpful. Some that were exceptionally good were Movada from Himitsu, Maickey from BlueWater, and (Geordan or Juahquin (male)) from DaMario. The lunch cook (woman) from Oceana was very good as well. Forget her name however. These people stood out. Everyone says "It's a pleasure" when waiting on you. I know it's part of their job, but it's nice to hear. Hotel and grounds are in very good shape. We were asked to vacate our room due to some construction but were upgraded to oceanfront with a little coaxing. Was greeted with a cool washcloth and cold juice upon arrival. Take the shuttle bus into town for the afternoon. Walk over the pontoon bridge and stroll the town on this side if the bridge. Overall a nice place and reasonably priced for all inclusive. We joked about not being able to find any negatives about the place, but wi-fi access was not included. I feel it should be included, as most major hotels include it, and it doesn't cost much to provide it. Still, a fantastic place to visit.

Room Tip: Our room in the 3000 building was very large, clean, modern, and right next to the dive shop.

I just recently got back from Curacao and the view was beautiful. The staff is friendly and welcoming. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted with a cold towel and check in was a breeze. We got to our oceanview room and someone had left the window open so there were mosquitoes and knats all over the place. The next morning I woke up with bites all over, however, we asked the front desk if they could spray the room and by that evening most were dead. Bring bug spray, because the bugs are horrible. The rooms were comfortable and clean; however, there was one day that housekeeping never came and another in which they did not come to clean until we left for dinner. The beds however were HORRIBLE!!!! They were so hard I woke up every night with terrible back pain and could not go back to sleep. By the end of our stay I was more than ready to return home to my bed! The drinks were wonderful.....not too strong where one was enough, but strong enough that you tasted all ingredients equally. THE FOOD........HORRIBLE!!!! We ate at every restaurant except the Italian restaurant (only because it was open a few nights a week) and they were equally disappointing. One night they had a buffet on the beach and I could not even eat it. I ordered room service when we returned to our room. Most people enjoyed the Japanese restaurant, however, I did not think there was enough flavor and the lack of a choice disappointed me. The seafood restaurant was the best but it was still lacking considering everything was pre-made. The day that we went to Punda we ate at an amazing Cuban restaurant (Mr. Congas).....I would definately recommend this place. The beach was beautiful.....yes there was alot of coral, but every beach on the island has a coral beach. There were plenty of activities by the entertainment team and they were awesome. The complimentary scuba diving lessons and trip was amazing. I would return (with upgraded food and beds) and I would recommend this resort to others because not everyone has my taste. We truly enjoyed ourselves and appreciate all the staff and help we received in booking our excursions.

We booked a "Preferred Club" room on december 21st (room 8306). Upon check-in we were not yet in the system (we booked directly through the hotel website). But about 30 minutes later they were able to provide us with a room, which was one of the renovated rooms in the Preferred Club building. The room was absolutely not as advertised on the website. The bed is very hard, has no pillow top, no proper sheets, very uncomfortable.

We were first assigned to room 8208, we were assigned another room after there was a burning smell coming out of the air conditioning unit at night (scary experience!)

We did not get any of the preferred club amenities we paid over 200 dollars extra per night for. No towels, minibar not stocked as advertised (and also was not stocked later, even though check-in staff promised this).

After eating some meal at the beach bar (Oceania) I got very sick with horrible diarrhea (probably due to the very bad hygiene applied) , the next day I asked if we could check out one day early but they told us that we will then be charged for the whole stay anyway.

The only thing nice about this hotel is the pool area. The pools are beautiful and well kept. Bar service is ok. Beach bar personnel very unfriendly and hygiene is very poor at the beach bar.

Buffet area is ok, nothing special.

Honestly I feel we need to be refunded the additional fees we paid for the preferred club as we did not receive any of the amenities advertised, which was very disappointing.

My partner and I initially had our heart set on the Florida Keys to celebrate my 50th birthday but our travel agent sugessted we look into Curacao. I'm glad we did. The Sunscape was very nice. We stayed in the Pelican building with an ocean view. It was very clean and our fridge always stocked.
The beach butlers were great. The whole staff was awesome. My partner set up a private dinner on the beach for us and it was perfect!! We were also invited to a chefs dinner with a number of other couples which was very nice. We made some new friends too!
The concierge folks were very helpful
Kudos to Kurt, Beverly and all of the staff---I'm bad with names!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Pelican building. I'm not sure but it may be more expensive than the other...

our vacation at the sunscape was good except for a few things...service in buffet and bluewater grill for dinner were terrible. first thing when you are seated at any restaurant should be a beverage, not happening, especially at the buffet. top shelf liquor is no where to be found. no shower by preferred club pool???. no bikes. no one tells you that there is one free dive per stay. beware on sunday night, the beach next door(mambo beach) has a big party, lots of loud music until 2:30 a. m. , not sunscapes fault. weather was good, cloudy/little rain, but warm. take their shuttle or a "bus" downtown, cool place. walk across pontoon bridge. also their shuttle from the airport and back was very nice, 30 minute ride.entertainment not that great, but always had something in the evening. try the casino, i came out $150.00 ahead. last do go in the water and try the snorkeling, fish everywhere. you don't even have to go out that far, take bread with you and they will find you....all the workers were very nice...we would go back if the price was right!!!
