“Excellent Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We vacationed at Sunscape Feb. 24th to Mar.10th. Had along
wait at the airport, but other than that check in was fast with
Darling looked after us.This was our 5th time being there and
loved all the changes. We had no trouble getting a cabana or
towels at the beach.
We went to all the restaurants, Japanese, blue water Grill,
Italian, World Buffet and the food was good at all of them.
All Bartenders were great and looked after us well.
Entertainment was ok.,,, We played bingo in the day time
but found if they would have announced it 5 minuites before
they would have got more people playing as they forget to
bring the sheets with them to the beach.I think that goes with
other day games. Also would like to hear some music in the
day time ( only small Ideas)
We loved our room in the Royal Tower and I'm told they
will be better next year.
The Resort is kept very clean ,also my room was well looked
after . Can't wait till next year Alice Kapshey Kitchener Ontario canada

Room Tip: We like the Royal Tower as it is close to everything and we had no trouble with noise

My 21 year old daughter and I recently stayed at Sunscape Resort March 4th - March 11th. When we arrived we were greeted by a handsome man named Chris at the front desk who was very helpful checking us in and answering any questions I had. Any time I walked into the lobby the people behind the front desk were friendly, charming and always smiling. The resort itself was impeccably maintained whether it be the maid service, the tree trimmers, landscapers, and whomever worked to keep the resort looking clean and beautiful. Water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, wind surfing, paddle boating, bicycling, yoga and water aerobics and many other activities were offered at the resort. Would be nice to see a little more variety at the breakfast buffet, maybe waffles, and more seafood and/or Caribbean cuisine at the other restaurants. Servers could check on tables more often for drink refills or if something is needed but otherwise portions were generous and food was delicious. My thanks to the Master Chef whom we met our first day at the beach while he was feeding the fish. The ladies who worked at the breakfast buffet were so very friendly and Norma one of the bartenders was very nice. Actually everyone that we met on this vacation was friendly, helpful and seemed to enjoy their job. Very special and heartwarming thank you to my new friends Chuchoo, Shurently (Crazy G), O'Bryan, John, Gino, Zeric, and Gwengello on the Entertainment Team for providing us with unstoppable energy. Great at preparing and executing all sorts of fun things such as volleyball, game show trivia, music/dancing, and other daily/nightly activities but most impressive, they really enjoyed making sure we had a good time. They even put my daughter in the beginning part of the fire show with her led light holla hoop which was awesome, as part of the show! Can't forget Omar who was a big part of the fire show. The people I have met at Sunscape will always be special to me and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. Not only have I shared new experiences with my daughter, I have wonderful memories, have made new friendships and that is so very important. I am totally looking forward to an return trip.

Feb 24 - March 3rd @ Sunscape.
We had a great time, a group of 12 somedays as many as 14. This is our 15th A.I. @ now 5 countries (Cuba, D.R., Jamaica, Barbados).
Just an FYI! Sunquest from Toronto, Sunday 3:30 afternoon arrival via Westjet. 200 travellers plus American Airlines arriving from Miami at the same time. 400+ travellers going through Customs that is ill equipped to handle the volume. Our group was one of the last to get through Customs (1 3/4 hrs). 20 minute transfer to Sunscape then at the back of the line for Checkin which was another hour. On an AI package, we should have been given our envelope quickly with room keys etc. over 3 hours to get through both lines and to our room at approx 6:45.
Having said this, Sunscape has no control over the first 2 hours @ the airport.

We did not have a bad meal all week. I have read of some people complaining about a small selection at the buffet, but I would disagree. please keep in mind that the resort has 341 rooms, and during the week we heard it was only half full. There was enough selection of fresh fruit, cheeses, meat, salads etc. I think people are comparing this to buffets at other resorts that have 500 - 800+ rooms. The Buffet is "L shaped" and at the end there is large urns of water, juice, & coffee. This is self serve. The wait staff's main concern was to clear tables and wipe clean. Only when there was no clearing tables to be done, they would ask if they could get anything for the guests.
A la Cartes: Ate at 7;00 each night. Long pants for men required for the Japanese & Italian.
Oceana Grill - the seafood was great, freshly cooked. We had the salmon, & Red Snapper, the only complaint was that the side dishes where cold. I beleive they are cooked elsewhere, and tried to keep warm while the seafood is grilled fresh and hot.
Japanese (2x), Bluewater Grill where great meals. Beach BBQ (ribs, pork, chicken, Corn on the cob) Friday night was another terrific dinner. The a la cartes are meant to be enjoyed, relax, drinks & visit while dining without being rushed. If you want to be in and out, then eat dinner at the buffet.
In our opinion the best meal all week was the Italian. It is a 5 course meal. First was the salad, later the soup, then the appetizers. They do not serve these all at once. Your main course comes during the second hour, then desserts, and coffee etc. you will have been there 2-2.5 hours. I believe the ones that have complained about this service, thought they would be in and out in an hour. Not the case, so relax and enjoy.
We are beach people. 33-34 degrees every day with strong winds.
Snorkeling was great, Drinks - Bring your own 14 oz mug or keep their plastic glass to be reused throughout the day/evening.
Our room was in the Pelican building, Rm 7215, 2nd floor, no complaints, but we only slept and showered there. Got our fresh beach towels every morning @ 8:00, never had an issue & returned them around 5:00 each night. Vendors setup 1 weekday night by the pool 5-9:00ish.
Evening entertainmet was enjoyable, but we usually only caught it from 9:00 -11;00.
Every staff member we encountered smiled, and made it a Great week. Enjoyed a pedicure at the spa. Did not go into the casino, or book an excursion.

I love Curacao, so I was pleasanlty suprised to find it much as I left it over 10 years ago but with improvements to roads and the overall infrastructure. I was impressed with what AMResorts has done so far to the old Breezes/Princess property they now own. The rooms were very nicely appointed and the food was good. Service and attitude OUTSTANDING. As a family resort it's perfect. Beach is great. Diving was hard to book as full most of the time. Very little entertainment or night life.

Room Tip: Buliding 8 is far away from the main area but the most recently upgraded.

We booked this trip last Fall, prior to the renovation but after the resort had been bought by the Sunscape group. We were a little concerned by some of the reviews over the past few months, with a few people complaining a great deal about the food and service.

Let me be perfectly clear - those people are whiners!

We have been "March Breaking" for over 10 years and have been been to more than 5 countries and more than 10 different resorts. This easily ranked among the very best. The food was very good - the different restaurants offered a wide range of food choices - in fact we didn't eat dinner at the buffet once. They offer a no reservation policy, so it can be a bit of a pain to have to line up to get into the 1st seating for dinner, but afterward, they have beepers that you can take with you throughout the resort to call you back when your table is ready.

The Japanese is very good and the two chefs are entertaining, the Oceana for seafood was great, as were the steakhouse and the italian restaurants.

I enjoyed stopping in at one of the little grills for a fresh chicken or fish sandwich and the kids loved the burgers, fries and nuggets that were all offered daily for lunch. The buffet was pretty good for handling larger groups who wanted to sit down together.

Our room (building 7) hadn't been completely reno'd, but it was still quite comfortable. We loved the quick access to the beach, the bar and lunch. There are quite a few buildings in the resort and the walk could be considered pretty lengthy by older or physically impaired guests, so I would suggest asking for a closer room. Most buildings offered a decent view of the beach and water.

The staff were, to a person, fantastic. They worked hard to make sure our stay was memorable and we felt welcome - drink lines were minimal, dinner service was friendly and quick, front of hotel staff were helpful with bookings and questions and the dive team - amazing for our boys on their first time out.

Other good things - the gym was clean and very well equipped. The beach was raked every day and was kept spotless. Free scuba diving (book early though). Free bike rental - not the best bikes, but they were fun to take for a spin. 5 minutes away from the aquarium - worth a visit.

Downsides (because it can't all be excellent) - internet cost was VERY expensive and not friendly. Spa services were expensive. Beach was slightly rocky - can't help Mother Nature - there's a coral reef right there. Communication was a little lacking on the daily events, especially during the day - you weren't really sure when things were happening (on the bright side, if you're a pool lounger, you didn't have to listen to loud yelling from an over-enthusiastic events team).

We just spent March Break at the Sunscape. We had a great time. I was a little worried because all the reviews but we had a great time if you have small kids this is the place to go. My 7 year old son did not want to spend anytime with us and was in the kids club everyday. I have never at any resort and we mostly stay at 5 stars go to kids club but this one is amazing they give you pagers incase of any problems the activities they did closed down a restaurant so they have a private chef make dinner for them it was unbelievable. My husband and i actually had dinner alone a few nights which was great! If you are looking for a 5 star this is not but rooms clean and nice food was good no complaints snorkeling and scuba great. The staff so friendly. We would go back for sure.

We stayed at the Sunscape with a group in Feb 2013. Had an awesome time. The people were very helpful and always tried their hardest to make sure we were satisfied. The Japanese restaurant was amazing and we went twice. Had a couples massage in the spa and it was very good. The beach was very rocky so make sure that you bring water shoes. Lots of fish in the ocean and they were right at your feet when you walked in. We did two excursions. An ATV excursion and also a Catamaran excursion. Both were alot of fun!!! Went to a Brazilian Steakhouse one night off of the resort and the food was amazing :) Can't say anything bad about Curaco or Sunscape. The hotel was nice, food and drinks were good. I would recommend bringing a large cup to keep your drinks in as the cups they use are very small and saves you many trips to the bar. Beautiful scenery, very quiet and very hard to leave.
Shopping is ok, go into town and go over the bridge to the left to the cruise port.
The resort is undergoing extensive updating as it was just purchased, but the changes are great.
We travel alot and this is a place we will return to with out question. Would recommend this resort for sure !!!
