My wife and I could not have been more pleased with Kura Hulanda and the entire staff. Nestled in the town of Wilemstad, it's a veritable stand-alone village that you never need to leave (if so wished). The two pools (the Eco-Pool and the "regular pool")
were surrounded by lush trees and beautiful, professional landscaping. Also, comfortable loungers surround the pools for guests. Multiple restaurants, a cafe, a spa, a bar, and fitness center round-out the homey feel of the resort. Guests can sit outside their rooms in their personal table and chairs or outside the cafe to enjoy the wonderful music and weather.

My wife and I stayed in the saver room, only to be treated by everyone on the staff as if we were the only couple staying there. Our privacy was respected, our requests were met swiftly, and our needs were most definitely met.

The resort offers a shuttle to the Kura Hulanda Lodge on the western side of the island. That is a must-do at least one day, if not multiple days. The lodge has an amazing beach, a beautiful pool, and a great restaurant overlooking the ocean. The resort also offers a shuttle to Blue Bay, a closer beach to Wilemstad. The beach is equally as gorgeous as any other beach. Generally, you can't go wrong with any beach on the island in my opinion.

I can't say enough good things about Kura Hulanda. Both facilities were amazing, the staff (especially Darrell) was friendly and helpful, and the grounds were clean and pretty.

I would recommend Kura Hulanda to anyone looking for a high-class, top-notch hotel.

This hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport, and a short walk of 5 minutes into the shopping area of the town.

The hotel is very picturesque, with brightly painted buildings in keeping with the rest of the architecture in the town. The room that I stayed in was huge, and very well furnished and had a balcony.

The hotel has 2 pools, which are not really large enough to seriously swim in, but lovely for a dip to cool down (especially the one with the waterfall). There is a gym and beauty salon on site but I didn't have time to visit these.

The courtyard in the centre is great to relax in and enjoy the happy hour (5-7) which includes a wide selection of cocktails. There is live music playing in the courtyard each evening and after dark the area is lit by candles and fairy lights.

There is no beach at the hotel, but a free shuttle takes you to Blue Bay (15 mins) or the sister hotel (45 mins). Both beaches were beautiful, clean and had excellent snorkelling. The sister hotel also looked like a very nice place to stay.

Breakfast is of a good standard, and the restaurants in the hotel are also highly recommended. There are also some shops, a casino and a museum on site as well.

“Not a 4 star hotel”

Hotel Kura Hulanda Spa & Casino

May 20, 2008

Hello,

If you are looking to stay at a 4 star hotel and have money to spend this is not the place. AVOID IF YOU NEED INTERNET ACCESS OR FOR BUSINESS. The business center frankly sucks and the internet connection via wireless or direct connect is 5kbs at best. Two hours to download some files from the office.

It is overrated. At $500 a night you can save the money and stay at a 3 star and have less problems. We stayed at this hotel on 2 occasions, 14 days total within 60 days. We figured the first visit was an oversight. The second trip confirmed this place is nothing more than a three star hotel.

So much more could be done to make this location great. A couple of issues include the inability for ANYONE at the resort to report simple problems such as burned out light bulbs, our second room has 3 burned out, the first had 3 as well. The door on our second room refuses to close unless you play with it for a couple of seconds and slam it almost hard enough to break glass, you would think that housekeeping would report problems like this so it is not the responsibility of the customer. I feel like a maintenance reporter here and gave up after a few days.

The phones in both rooms work at random. Again simply checking problems like this would bring this hotel back to its original status.

If you are at the hotel during a warm season make sure it has adequate cooling. The first room we had would cool to about 75 degrees at best making for uncomfortable nights of sweating. The second room though has a great cooling system.

The first room had a water leak from the upstairs.

If you plan on using the fridge you will have to plan at least 24 hours in advance as they are set to cool, not cold. If you want a cold beer you will certainly need to use ice.

No Microwave. Seriously $40 will go a long way for making a customer happy. I understand that the hotel may not want to lose money from room service but a microwave is a necessity for a business traveler.

Overall the staff is great if you spend money. In my personal opinion I would avoid this place.

Good luck

We vacationed in Curacao for our honeymoon in July, 2007. We absolutely loved this hotel. It was quiet and relaxing, just what we needed. The Eco pool was wonderful, especially after a long day of sight seeing. The dining was good and the service was great. Kura Hulanda is located at the heart of Willemstad and is within walking distance to other great sites and restaurants. There was entertainment nightly, and we were left alone to relax. Yes, it does take a while to get used to the service, however, being from the US, we are used to having people jumping down our throats, wanting us out of a restaurant for the seats, not in Curacao. It is not a part of their nature to leave visitors alone. We enjoyed our stay at the plantation style hotel. There was art all over the hotel, which gave an idea of the culture and some great photo oppurtunities. We would recommend this hotel for those who need a relaxing getaway in a relaxing, nature-inspired hotel.

Considering it was supposed to be an amazing hotel we were very dissapointed. The first room we were in was very noisy and near an alley way. We eventually got moved to new rooms which were better. The hotel has many trees full of mosquitos so you get bitten to death. The pools were a let down. Instead we ended up taking a shuttle to its sister hotel (takes over 30 minutes!) which was much nicer with private beach and beautiful pool. We wished we had stayed there instead. We chose this hotel so we would be able to walk out into willemstad. We have been to many carribean islands on cruises. We decided to go on holiday to curacao for 2 weeks, we defintely wont be doing it again. Cruises are much better, you get to see the island but dont have to stay longer than a day. 2 weeks was too long, we felt quite intimidated when we went out at night into willemstad. However, we did go swimming with doplhins which had been a life long dream of ours.
