“Animal cruelty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

Hotel was great, even excellent. Then I found out they have caged macaws in the garden. Small cages where they cannot fly (not that any cage is big enough for a macaw). I don't understand people that do that, but when a highly-respected hotel chain does it for all to see, and boast about it (a sign in the cages said the birds are imprisoned there "on an all-included package"), it is to me a very serious matter. Macaws are highly social, intelligent birds, used to fly long distances, and they usually have lifetime partners. This is cruelty, and I didn't expect Hilton to accept it. If the animals cannot for some reason be reinserted in the wild, at least don't show them to visitors as a trophy, as if encouraging these practices.

Stayed at the Hilton for the 4th time in 4 years from Nov28-Dec5, 2014. The renovations are done, but some of the rooms are still a bit tired. We ate at Bligh's Bar a couple of times. In the past, the service was horrible, but we noticed a big difference this year--or maybe it was our server-Haro. He was GREAT! Very fun, very attentive. Executive lounge food and drinks are OK, but Kareen will bend over backwards to make your stay wonderful. She's the best. If Hilton loses her, I'll never go back! Adrianna, I believe she's the front desk manager, is also wonderful. Had a super birthday dinner at Cielos... Sir Norman attended to us and was excellent (as were the free desserts)! Kareen, Haro, Norman and Adrianna all made my birthday extra special and I thank them for that.

I would suggest that if you're not HHonor Member, you consider paying extra to get Executive Lounge access. You'll save a bit of money on food and drinks, and you'll get super service from Kareen. Also... if possible try for a room on the 3rd floor or above on the "short" side with an ocean view. The views are spectacular. Wi-Fi is free if you're diamond (not sure about other HHonor levels) and/or if you're in the Ex Lounge; otherwise you pay. A lot of folks complain that the beach area is too small, but to me the grounds are really interesting with all the different walking paths and nooks and crannies, plus the fort is pretty cool, as are the new piers. And their kiddy pool is fantastic... not that I have kids, but if I were a kid, I'd *love* it.

Yeah, the food at the hotel is expensive (but isn't it always at resort hotels?). We typically hit Pirates Cove 3 or 4 times (lunch/dinner), and there's now a pizza place right beside them. The pizza was fabulous! There used to be an Indonesian restaurant w/i walking distance of the hotel (Temple something or other), but it's closed now, which was a real downer because it was wonderful. We also occasionally eat at the Marriott's pool bar. If possible, it's a good idea to go to a grocery store and pick up a few munchies and beer/wine. There's a big supermarket not far from the Hilton (not walkable though).

We always use Caribbean Sea Sports for diving. Still wonderful, and it was so easy for us with them now at the Hilton. Just roll out of bed and down to the pier. See my other reviews about CCS. We were sorry we missed diving with Troy and/or having Clark as our boat captain. Maybe next time?

Room Tip: 3rd floor and above on the short side with ocean view. Pay extra for Executive Lounge access if you...

Despite the fact that the rooms did have some kind of renovation. It doesn´t have the look and feel of a proper Hilton resort. Cleaning of the rooms should have been much better. I found hair on my bed and pillow, stains on the walls, and my bedside table was sticky. Breakfast was okay but the breakfast area very sober and outdated. The location, the beach and the surrounding areas however are very nice and never felt crowded. The Hilton name gave me much higher expectations of this resort.

We stayed here for our winter break. The property was renovated and our room was beautiful. The front desk staff was very friendly. Where this hotel misses the boat is the food. It's overpriced and frankly awful. They need some fresh fish and fresh tropical salads on the menu! The drinks are weak and also very over priced - $20 for a little Solo cup of pina colada mix with no rum.

Also, the beach is a giant ashtray. They need to do a better job of cleaning the beach area. Someone should be raking up the debris and mostly, the disgusting cigarette butts.

It's a shame really, they are on the right track here with great friendly service and our room was gorgeous.

I had read some of the negative reviews here before going, and was a little apprehensive. We had a great week in Curacao and loved the hotel and the staff. I honestly don't know what some of the negative reviewers were expecting, but this is a pretty good - and for the price was a great value. The property does feels a bit dated, but that's not a drawback to us. The bar and wait staff were great, and folks need to understand "island time" and not city-time when it comes to service. The second beach has great snorkeling, the pool is wonderful, and our ocean-view room provided a nice balcony from which to watch the sunsets. We will definitely consider coming back here.

Room Tip: Request a high floor and ocean-view room

Came to resort on a dive package (see my review of Caribbean Sea sports) and my feeling on the hotel is mixed. Pluses lots of shade for beach and pool, 1 min walk to dive shop, better than ave tennis courts and gym, Keisha - bartender superb, nice live music. Minuses - very small beach, hotel made it difficult to visit adjacent piscadera area (dining), some issues with menu descriptions portabella means whit mushrooms and arugula means romaine, gym crowded with locals, very limited shuttle to town. The hotel was at 48 percent occupancy when we were there and I can't imagine the competition for beach chairs, dinner tables etc at 80-90 percent occupancy. Hotel fixed immediately issue in room room not perfect caulk /paint. Mixed staff some helpful and cheery some slow and dour but maybe language issue. Would go again.

My third time stating at the Hilton Curaçao and it's a continued joy. First, the property is gorgeous. Great snorkelling right off the resort. I highly recommend an ocean view room, having stayed in a garden view room in the past. This time, we were assigned a room with 2 double beds. But the fantastic staff at the front desk let us change to a king bed room. Considering we are on our honeymoon, and they didn't know, it's a big deal. Thank you Francis and Luis!
Sandra and the restaurant staff are amazing. Thanks for truly making our stay enjoyable. Hope to see you again soon :-)
