“CURACAO MARRIOTT... SUPER!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2010

Dear, lovflyng. I just have some coments on what u said. I satyed at this hotel two wees ago, i know there are a lot of mosquitos, but please be logical!! if there is a lot of woods, for sure u will get mosquitos, and however, it was not only at the hotel, if u were outside, at the downtown, or another restaurant around the island, you´ll get a lot of them too. So really i don´t accept that people like u critizes something like that!! That´s not fault of the property, that´s just NATURE!!! Com´on guys!! i am a person who travels a lot, i´ve been in many countries and hotels. The Curacao Marriot was one of the Best hotels in the Caribbean!! Yes the rooms are old, but u know what is funny, that many people go there and they criticize the rooms, but when its time to chek out, THEY STILL WANT TO BE IN THE ROOM!! the day i was cheking out there was a man, yelling at the lady at the Front Desk, because he had to chek out at 11am, but after that he started saying, that the rooms are old, uggly, and more... And then he said "I WILL NOT LEAVE THE ROOM AT 11AM". hahaha

I´m sorry, but i think that´s Stupid!! Guys we have to be human beings sometimes, if we want something to be perfect, that´s only possible in our HOUSES, AND NOWHERE ELSE! Yes, we paid for service, and i´m sure we received! But if we think that we paid to receive service THE WAY WE WANT!! Nobody can know what we want, because only we know ourselves!!

This hotel was wonderfull for me. Starting with check in, which was with a very nice lady, i think her name was Paula, and one of her colleagues something like Shirnilea... uhmm that i can´t remember. But thry were very nice, and kind. She gave me a very nice room 240. And was so nice!! The service in the restaurants was wonderfull, maybe the food not so good, but i remember this guy TJ from seabreeze, he is Super!! Also at voila, u can get Eloi, he is very funny! The people was Great! The beach and the pool so good!
Ah! one more thing, i also stayed with the All In, i don´t know why some people doesn´t understant that we are not the owners of something just because, we paid for service! The all in was super! yes, u have to sign all the checks but its obvious that a Restaurant, Hotel or any other Bussines has to keep tracking what they sell and it´s obvious that every place has their own RULES! CAN´T WE JUST FOLLOW RULES??? We cannot pretend that they have to make it with Bands, or like other hotels jus because we want it!!! Or beacuse we don´t want to sign a Check! PEOPLE WAKE UP!!! The all in was the best! u have everything included ecxept Voila! But for the rest is All u can eat!!! hahahaha.
Any way, this hotel is best! And this comment was just for some people that just don´t think before saying stupid things!! Like the mosquitos for exemple, YOU GET MOSQUITOS EVERYWHERE, NOT ONLY IN THE ROOMS OR POOL BAR!! THAT IS NATURE, NOBODY CAN CHANGE THAT!!!

This was our 2nd trip to the Marriott Beach Resort. You can scuba right from the hotel beach from the Padi Certified Scuba Center. I took lessons and got certified in 2008, came back with my 2 teenagers in 2009 and had them certified. The beach diving is so great for learning and has a great "wall" with lots to see. I compare to the boat trips we have made here in Curacao, Los Cabos and Key Largo, and IMO the beach diving is better... nobody to wait for... and if you had your own gear, you only pay about $10 for tank rentals for the WHOLE day...
Food at hotel is good, drinks were super, and the staff was awsome.
The hotel is older and being renovated, and has some mold issues in some of the rooms, but it looks like they are working to renovate it... they work hard to accomodate you and quickly remedy any issues you have.

This was my third trip to Curacao but my first to the Marriott Beach Resort. For folks that know what an all-inclusive resort is...think twice before going here. We came to the resort with my sister in-law and her husband and they stayed in the same wing of the hotel but their feedback was the same as ours. The rooms are every bit as old as the 18 years this hotel has been in place. The mattress was terrible as was the furniture in the room. The resort spends time landscaping but when it comes to keeping the sidewalks, pool area, lounge chairs, etc. clean - forget about it. This was the dirtiest of any resort we have stayed at.

To top off the "All-inclusive" experience, you get the pleasure of signing for every drink and meal you get - just as if you were a non-inclusive guest. Don't worry though - they leave a spot for you to add an additional gratuity each time you sign.

They will tell you this is because they can't tell who is an all-inclusive guest and who is not, so everyone must sign a check for everything they have. Since they have computers at every bar and at the restraunt, this seems like a really lame excuse. Why haven't they gone to wrist bands then - like other all-inclusive resorts?!

Don't look for any music in the pool area or entertainment at night if that is your thing.

In addition, there is really one restaurant (the Portofino), and the menu is pretty redundant and the food is what I would consider to be good - not great. There is a pool bar where you can order lunch and every other night has a dinner menu, and a bar near the front desk that has a limited menu.

The staff at the resort is friendly and the dive shop down the beach is very nice and reasonably priced. I did four shore dives with my brother in-law and was not disappointed.

This resort really needs to make up it's mind if it wants to be a hotel or an all inclusive resort. It obviously can't be both based on our experience. It also would need to upgrade all of its room furniture and get serious about keeping the place clean.

Of all the All-inclusive resorts I have stayed at, this one is on the very bottom of the list. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Nice resorot...Meals and drinks a bit $$$.....We were there after the storm and the beach was a bit washed away....ALOT of corol and rocks in the water....got alot of cuts on toes and feet ...bring water shoes...nice reef right off the property you can snorkol and dive shop right next to the resost. You can rent a car from the deskat the resort for pretty cheap......about 50 a day...we rented on efrom thrifty for 200 for the week....if you dont go all inclusive ask for a fridge and you ccan stock it..like i said the drinks and food were a bit pricey and the food was OK......no entertainment at the resort...was kind of boing at noght.....if your lookin got lay around in the sun and visit town which is only 5 mins away great place.

Marriott needs to strip it's name from this property until a TOTAL renovation is completed. The building's exterior, pool and beach area are very lovely. However, the rooms and bathrooms look like something out of college dorm life. The rooms are a dump. There are no rugs or anything covering the floors. We had to wipe our feet off on bath towels before climbing into bed. The bathrooms are gross. Our tub was clogged. The resort fized it by removing the stopper which then allowed a great view of the much and hair caught in the drain.

This is NOT a place for a romantic getaway or a stay of luxury. If you're wanting to "rough it" and be sandy and dirty for a week with the guys, this would be a perfect place. But even so, you'd be paying WAY too much for you'll get in return.

We originally booked a 7 night stay but left for another resort after the second night. A thunder storm knocked the power out and flooded our room. The resort offered us NOTHING to help improve our stay. There was zero acknowledgement that we were there for our honeymoon. The Marriott web site's rating is incorrect. We feel cheated and would love to get our money back.

The Marriott was clean and the rooms were comfortable. This was our 8th time to Curacao and the fifth time we stayed at the Marriott. The staff is like family. We were there for 10 days and I dived with Caribbean Sea Sports. I dived with Tom and his crew before and I feel very safe diving with them. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. Tom has made many improvments to his dive shop. The only complaint we have is the upkeep of the dive shop. Last year we were there and there were holes in the grass roof. This time we were there and the roof is even worse, especially after a rain, which it did often. We hope that next year, the roof will be repaired

Let me start with rocky beaches, and if you're staying at the Marriott plan on either buying or renting rock shoes. There is one small entrance into the water right by "The Boardroom" (a really neat outdoor bar) that appears to have sand dumped in, and you can access the water pretty easily. Also, only other place we went beaching was Mambo Beach (by Seaquarium) ... right by Lion's Den Resort ... that has a nice sandy lagoon.

OK, enough of that. The Marriott was FANTASTIC!!! We had gone there for our honeymoon and stayed in an oceanfront suite (room 300). In a word, incredible. Beautiful view, private balcony (heck, HUGE private balcony), dining room, family room, and huge bedroom and bathroom. Checkin was a breeze (look for a bellman named Roland ... great guy), and the room was a welcome sight after a long flight from Ohio. We arrived on a Wednesday night, so just ate at the Marriott restaurant, Portofino, that was having a Mexican night. Great food and very pleasant staff. However, remember please that you are on vacation ... and you are on island time ... so just sit back and enjoy the food and people because things move a bit slower at that longitude. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, because when I go on vacation ... I want to do things slow and not rush.

Marriott pool was beautiful and "bath tub temperature" warm. The staff was always around picking up after messy guests ... and did a great job at keeping the place very manicured.

Another MUST, if you're a wine drinker, is to visit the Voila! Deli .... in the lobby ... and ask for a l-a-r-g-e wine glass. You'll get about 1/4 bottle of wine for $5.00!!!! And look for a guy named Eloi ... he's a real gem!

I mentioned "The Boardroom", which is a neat outdoor tiki bar that has surf boards as counters (hence the name), and swings that you sit on while at the bar. You'll find a couple guys there, Luis and MichaelAngelo, that will fill you full of your favorite rum-based concoctions (including drink umbrella). Good prices, too, I really didn't feel like I was getting stiffed.

We decided not to rent a car, but to instead use either shuttles or taxi's to get us around the island. Cars are about $50/day to rent, and you can probably trim off cost by just using taxi's ... which are available relatively easily. Marriott offers a shuttle to Willemstad twice a day (morning and afternoon), will drop you off, then pick you back up about 4-hours later. Definitely go explore!! We found so many neat places, one called "Say Cheese" adjacent to the Renaissance Mall in Otrobanda that sports all sorts of Dutch cheese ... like gouda ... that you can clear through customs to take home. Because it's encased in wax, it has a long shelf life and can survive the trip without refrigeration.

While in Willemstad (on the Otrobanda side where the shuttle will dump you off), make sure to cross the Emma Bridge to Punda (which is the other side of Willemstad). The Emma Bridge is, by the way, a pontoon bridge. If they should happen to move the bridge for inbound ship traffic coming through the channel, water taxi's are available ... so you will not be stranded on one side or another. In fact, when the bridge is deployed, they waive the fare for the water taxi's. Once on the Punda side, make sure to stop at the Iguana Cafe (just to the left of the bridge disembarkment point) and pick some frozen treat off the menu .. you'll love it!!!

Picture opportunities. HA!!! If you want to get some of the GREATEST sunset pictures ever, just head out to the Marriott beach at sundown ... fast west ... and enjoy!! I had booked a sunset cruise (at Seaquarium harbor) with Pelican Tours ... but they had boat problems and cancelled the cruise. But it really didn't matter, simply because all you need do is step out your own door to snap some of the prettiest pictures ever.

Speaking of Pelican Tours, if you're planning a sunset cruise ... or anything else with them .. I would highly recommend them (as much as I do the Marriott). Albeit they cancelled my cruise, but my refunds were waiting for me (along with an apology email and phone call) upon my return home. Good doing business with them, and wouldn't hesitate in the future.

Bottom line, I just don't have anything negative to say about Curacao, the Marriott, Willemstad, the locals, the dining, or anything. I would (and plan on) coming back soon!!!
