“Great Hotel Resort for Curacao”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

We spend Christmas 2013 at Curacao Marriot. I will keep things short and to the point.
* Great vacation! We were very happy here.
* Rooms a bit dated, but good quality. Clean. Good hot water. No mold. No smells.
* Great views from room and balcony.
* Great customer service from hotel employees (the non-hotel based events coordinator could be better. They were not "above and beyond". Seemed like they were happy to just collect paycheck).
* Plenty of parking
* Wonderful beach (Number of palapas are limited, so if you want shade, arrive to beach early)
* Food is good but overpriced. Expect to pay about $150 for a family of 4 at the nice restaurant on the hotel grounds. The Christmas buffet was $50 per person.
* The hotel "snack shop" is called "Viola" I think. This is best way to get breakfast. For $8 you can get a huge Bagel/egg/cheese/bacon/sausage sandwich that can easily feed 2 people. The coffee is good here as well. So, you can feed 4 people here for about $24 for a good solid breakfast. The hotel breakfast buffet is $28 per person. Enough said!
* The beach/pool bars are great, but expensive. Average bar drink runs about $10.
* Great security. No locals wandering on this beach. No vendors selling junk.
* Good location. Only about 4 minute drive to downtown. Only about 10 minute drive from airport.
* Rent a car to get around island. MUCH cheaper than taxi and the car rental rates are good. It is very easy to drive around the island.

Room Tip: * A room on one of the upper levels gives a better view of the sunset.

We had a lovely stay at the Marriott in Curacao. We upgraded to an ocean view on the second floor/garden view and loved sitting on our balcony watching the birds, sky and ocean. The room cost was definitely reasonable for the quality of the property. The staff were all very helpful, especially Carlos who was full of information and always cheerful. We visited many beaches to snorkel but found out on our last day that the beach right outside our hotel had the best snorkeling of the week. The drinks were good and the food quite tasty but not inexpensive. The spa massage was very good but also very costly. The deli was good for morning snack and the staff there were very friendly and helpful. The gift shop could be improved quite a bit by expanding the items for sale and separating it from the deli. We were told we could sign up for a walking tour of Willemstad but found out when we called the tour company only offered tours in Dutch even though the man from the tour agency I was speaking to spoke excellent English. The Marriott should either find a company willing to do tours in English or tell visitors that only Dutch walking tours are available. We were also interested in biking but only 10 people or more speaking Dutch could be accommodated. Next year we plan to bring the whole family so it would be wonderful to have a separate children's pool - maybe even a lazy river and water slide! Overall we would highly recommend this property for cost, friendliness and service.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the first floor. It is really nice to be on the second or third floor facing the beach...

I just returned from a holiday vacation and it was absolutley WONDERFUL!!!!! I cannot give enough praises for the people that work at the resort. EVERYONE was uber friendly. The staff really meant it when they said hello and asked how things were going. It started with Alton when we first arrived and it continued through the vacation. The snorkling was amazing (I did it twice a day) and I scuba dived 3 times. THANK YOU Marriott! You hit a home run!

We visited curaçao with our son age 24 and daughter age 28 using Marriott points. The beach is steps from the hotel and was calm and beautiful. Snorkeling off the beach was easy. The common areas are lovely. The kids in the pool were a nuisance. Marriott needs to do something to control unruly kids running the entire pool and the swim up bar. The bartender did his best but management needs to do more to provide separate areas for those under 16. It is a bit hard to find shade as many people place towels on chairs both at the pool and the beach all day. These people rarely return and rudely take up shade that others would enjoy. The rooms are clean and the service is attentive. This is not a st regis or four seasons but the grounds are manicured and the beach is awesome. We stayed the first half of our week at the Hilton. We all strongly preferred the Marriott (especially pool and beach and overall grounds) to the Hilton.

This is the third Christmas we have spent on Curaçao at the Marriott Beach Resort. It is lovely for many reasons. The staff members are extremely friendly, helpful, and aim to please every resort guest. One staff member, Gesmeline, has been welcoming us for three years. She is delightful beyond words and her personal touch make us feel like a king and queen. We love the pool and beach which are clean and beautiful. There is an on site dive/snorkel place with daily trips to various sites to observe the marvels of the underwater world. Even the cleaning staff is terrific, helpful and do their jobs well. The Marriott offered aqua classes with a recreation director named Michaelangelo; he was friendly and made the workout enjoyable. If you enjoy a small casino, this place offers a good diversion. The rooms are nice, but could stand an upgrade in the upcoming year or two. We tried the beach barbecue and it was tasty, but too pricey.
We hope to return to the Marriott again next year because it is one corner of paradise. The people here are the nicest we've met on our travels.

Room Tip: The ocean front rooms with porches are nice.

We just came back from a 10 night stay at this Marriott. While it is true that it is not up to typical Marriott standards, it was not as bad as some of the reviews say. The service staff is excellent. The beach is great - beach shoes are necessary as there is much coral. The snorkeling at this hotel is OK, not great, due to a lot of wave action. The rooms are comfortable, and yes, they could use a two sink unit in the bathrooms. The pool is fine. Only complaint: the food choices are not great, and the food quality needs big improvement. The chefs all need to be retrained by true professionals. The dinners at Portofino were hit or miss. Some things were good, others not so. We had an all-inclusive - which is the ONLY way to go, as the food and drinks are very expensive, and not worth the cost. we rented a car and GPS (which is essential) and visited most of the beaches and snorkeled at these beaches. There is some very good snorkeling in Curacao. The best? Playa Klein Knipp beach at the northern tip, and the Tugboat snorkeling spot - absolutely outstanding. Jan Thiel beach - a fun place. Very few road signs, and the ones that are there are in Dutch. Yay Garmin! The rental car was dirty and did not operate well. National Car Rental needs to do a better job of cleaning and fixing their cars. the town of Wilemstad is pretty, but the shopping is expensive. Loved the pontoon bridge. Curacao is definitely worth visiting if you like snorkeling and beaches - go through Cheap Caribbean and get an all-inclusive in off season and you will get a good bargain. One more suggestion, skip the trip to Klein Curacao. VERY rough seas, and the snorkeling there was mediocre at best. the Mermaid tour was OK, - lunch on the island was very good, but the boat rocks terribly. don't be fooled - the trip back is almost just as bad! LOL

Room Tip: Stay on the top floors facing the beach - they are quieter.. There are elevators.
