The hotel is great, and everything is working in order (as you would expect for what you're paying).

From the minute we arrived the staff made us feel very welcome.

These people are well trained and very kind. Even at the hotel shops, people were kind beyond their duty. For instance, when my wife made a casual question regarding a salad dressing at another restaurant, the employee went up to the chef and came back with complete information, even an address where to buy a special ingredient.

Hotel beach is nice and well kept, altough not a big deal (keep in mind I'm from Venezuela and we have 1000 km of caribbean and great beaches). There's a special color lighting at night so you can walk safely on the sand. Since it's a private beach you can see security staff discreetly walking around. The beach is kind of divided in three areas. The middle one is right in front of the pool.

The pool is not the best I've seen. It has a strange form, made of joint squares. I believe the idea is that a guest can have it's own pool share, where probably no one else will swim. However this makes the pool look smaller than it actually is. Every half hour an employee will go aligning chairs on the pool side.

As other hotels in the area, they have a complimentary shuttle service to downtown Willemstad (10 minutes trip).

WiFi is only on the lobby, but they have network wiring in all rooms. Since I was travelling with a WiFi cell phone, this made me keep going to the lobby, where they have complimentary cool tea and lemonade. So it wasn't that bad.

I will certanly come back here.

I stayed at the Marriott from June 19th- June 27th. My husband, our 3 boys (6, 4 and 10 months) and I enjoyed our stay.

Beach - The beach was nice. Plenty of palapas to sit under. You did not have to wake up at the crack of dawn to find an unoccupied one. The main beach is nice. We found the beach on the side (in front of the dive shop) more suitable for our young children. The water is calmer. My 6 and 4 year old walked out quite a bit. They were able to feed some colorful fish (seargent majors and needlefish) who love bread crumbs. Further, this beach section is great for shore snorkeling. My husband and son saw a large crab while snorkeling.

Food- The food was good. We ate the breakfast buffet at Portofino's every morning. It was great. They had pancakes, waffles, potatoes, bacon, sausage, omelette bar, cereal,, yogurt, trailmix, pastries and fresh fruit every morning. You could also order from the menu and I ordered the strawberry ricotta pancakes a few times-delicious. I did not have any major complaints. I tried the steak for dinner one night (at the bar and grill restaurant) and it had a lot of fat on it. Maybe I just had a bad one. Further, we tried Portofino's for dinner one night. I must say they were really slow that night and the food was only OK. I thought the food should have been better because it was quite pricey. We got the meal plan so it didn't bother us too much. The buffets are pretty good too. Our favorite was the Indonesian buffet. The food was great.

Room- The room was OK. The beds and lines were nice and soft. We were all comfortable in our room. The maid came in the morning (so we didn't come back from the beach and our room was still a mess). I do admit that the room was a little old, reminded me of a Marriott Courtyard we once stayed at (furniture was older), but I was OK. The hotel knows that it must update its rooms and was renovating a room a few doors from us (I didn't hear any noise), so this should be soon taken care of.

Employees- Very nice. Great service at the front desk, the restuarants, the bars, the deli, everywhere. Some people complain that some employees are unfriendly. A "good morning" and a smile goes a long way.

Car- We rented a small SUV for about $80/day and drove to the West End. We stopped on several of the beaches on the coast. Most of them were nice (Grote Knip?). It took us about 45 minutes to drive to the West End.

Weather- Sunny and breezy. It rained aboout 2 days on our stay but it didn't last the whole vacation.

Would definitely visiti again!

We just returned fro the Marriott in Curacao. We stayed there from June 26,2008-July 2,2008. I had a party on the island and the hotal accomodated 27 of family and friends. Not one complant from my guests about their rooms from suite, resort, beachfront and oceanview it was clean. We stayed in the suite for my birthday. The view was fabulous! I had the view of the ocean and the pool area. The beach is clean, but you should wear water shoes.! Now, there are other beaches in Curacao that you can visit which has less coral. One of my guest room had a problem with their room due to a leak from their sink ,they gave them an upgrade .Eight of my friends will stay at the hotel 3 more days. The food was excellent ! You will get taxed a service fee which is not a tip. But, you will find this on all of the island. The staff very acommodating ,friendly and professional. I checked out a few of the hotels in Curacao. I am so glad that we stayed here. Go the Museum at (Hotal Kura Holunda),the Sea Aquairum and eat at the Fort Nassua.Next year we are planning to have a party at the hotal and will stay there for nine days..

My friend and I were looking for a getaway over Thanksgiving and found a great deal on www.aa.com to Curacao. We found it to be a wonderful place. Below are some issues but nothing which ruined our trip at all.

I was able to get certified in Scuba Diving while I was there. The Scuba store was great and the only issue I had was they kept moving the time of my class based on other guest's schedule.

There is not much of a social scene at all but that was OK. We didn't go for that. They did have American Football on at the pool bar and inside so we were able to watch football on Thanksgiving. We had their buffett outside on Thanksgiving. It was a fun atmosphere but the food was not good and not worth the $50 a person.

The rooms were nice but we could hear a lot of the doors slamming as kids ran in and our of their rooms.

We also had one room which was on the beach mugged one morning while two teenage girls were in there. However, they were quick to get security there and they posted extra security after that. Otherwise, the island seemed very safe. We rented a car for the day and drive all around to the little secluded beached and loved every minute of it.

“Stay was Okay but we had some unacceptable issues”

Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino

Jun 21, 2008

We stayed at that hotel from June 14 to the 21st(7 nights). This was my second stay and this time I decided to bring my wife and kid.

We arrived on a Saturday and immediately noticed the "island" feeling. I was on a business trip and not necessarily ready to wait so long for everything.

National rent a car counter has issues has they are not connected to online reservations (make sure you book well in advance if you want a car there).

We didn't get what Marriott ensure we would get (extra pillows, slippers, extra towels). We asked for a crib and it was broken. We had to ask several time about our rate, when they would be using our points or the preferred rate.

The concierge wasn't helpful and was only there to cut calendars. Said they were going to confirm a reservation with me and never did.

At the end of our stay we ran out of grown up formula and decided to get milk at the coffee shop inside the hotel. This was a mistake since the milk provided and given to our 14 month old baby was spoiled and he threw up everything.
This incident was unfortunate but relatively well handled by the management and security of the hotel as they called a doctor and got us medication for the baby at midnight...

I will go back to the island but not at the Marriott. Next time I will try Avila Hotel.
