“Positively thrilled with our wedding at Curacao Marriott Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

We were married at the Curacao Marriott Resort on May 4, 2013. Having never been to Curacao, we picked this resort based on the perfectly organized materials we were sent by the wedding planner - far superior to any we'd received from resorts in Curacao and St. Marteen. We could not have asked for more from the wedding planner - she held our hands the entire way and was extremely patient with all our questions and planning.
From the moment we pulled into the resort entrance in our cab until the moment we left, we were thrilled with the resort overall. The staff were amazingly accommodating. We were there for 1.5 weeks and many family & friends joined us for part of the trip. We're still getting phone calls and emails from them thanking us for choosing Curacao and the Marriott. We all want to go back!

Room Tip: We had an ocean front room.

The hotel, rooms and common areas aren't the best (i.e. a little dated) but the location is great as it's right on the beach. I went primarly to dive and found the resort great for that purpose. I used the spa facilities and found them to be pretty good. The staff was very pleasant and friendly.

Our trip started in Aruba, where my wife and I got married on 6/2/13, and we decided to go to Curaçao for our honeymoon -- big mistake. It was a bad experience right from the start. By viewing the pictures of the Marriott in Curaçao, we thought it would be comparable to our stay at the Hyatt Regency in Aruba, wow we were wrong. The resort is old, outdated, and dirty. Our room had a mildew smell from the second we were showed our beachfront room. It took us 3 days to figure out where it was coming from, we then knew it was the comforter on the bed that stunk (smelled like a wet dog was laying on it.) Maid service was non-existent, even after we left a note for all sheets and comforter to be changed. Bathroom tub was dirty, a big mosquito smashed on the ceiling (that is still there after we showed the hotel manager before we cut our honeymoon short.) The proximity of the resort to the center of town is a cab or a bus ride away, everything is actually $$$. Walking through town didn't feel as safe as it is in Aruba either; people are much much much friendlier in Aruba.

In closing, we flew back to Aruba to finish our honeymoon the right way, the way we should've done things from the start. Curaçao will never see us again.

Ps - Book your vacations wisely.

Dear Dapper_NJ_82,
Congratulations on your recent wedding.

I am so sorry to hear that your stay at the Curacao Marriott was a dissapointment to you and that we did not live up to your expectations. We have taken your feedback to heart and have reviewed all the rooms for smell and and comfort to ensure the satisfaction of our guests.

I certainly hope that in the future you will one day decide to give Curacao as a destination another chance to prove what a nice island it is. Feel free to contact me personally if I can assist you in any way. My email is: Louella.brezovar@marriott.com

SIncerely,
Louella

HOTEL/FACILITIES: My boyfriend and I got a great deal by bidding on this hotel on Priceline. The hotel grounds were gorgeous from the lobby to the pool area, which was awesome as it never closed. The hot tubs were also a nice touch. Our hotel room itself was great for the price, but probably could have used an update over all. I believe some of the other rooms had already been updated. Our mini-fridge didn't work, but it wasn't a big deal as we were not staying the entire week, but I might have minded otherwise. The only serious drawback to our room was that we were on the ground floor and noticed that there were multiple mosquitos in the room on our first day and then again after the maid cleaned (probably from having the door cracked to access the maid cart). We actually noticed that Curacao how quite a few mosquitos on the island in general, so it may not be something that they can help. It was definitely nice to have the casino on site. If you go, be sure to use the coupon booklet that they give you at check in to get a free gift (playing cards) and some free match plays. NOTE: the beach is quite rocky, but it's not as bad to the right of the drink hut on the beach. You may need to wear water shoes, which we did not have. Most of the beaches on the island have the same issue.

LOCATION: The hotel is very easy to find. If you rent a car, turn right out of the rental car area (which is to the right of the airport once you exit the baggage claim area). Once on the road, turn right going down the hill at the THIRD round about towards WTC. At the bottom of the hill, turn right and then left into the Marriott. Between the airport and the hotel there is a grocery store that you may want to stop at. I believe it was called Carmen's and is on the right hand side of the road at a stop light. You can see it when coming from the airport, but when coming from the hotel it is harder to see from the road... so you may consider stopping before you check into the hotel. If you want to go to downtown Willemstad, you would continue straight through the third round about instead of turning right and down the hill. Your best bet is to get the direction sheets that they can print out for you in the hotel lobby. They gave us some directions to the other beaches, which we found without too much difficulty. Our favorite beaches were Porto Marie and Cas Abu by far. These are national parks and generally require an entrance fee (between 3-6 US dollars), but there is a free admission coupon to Cas Abu in the coupon booklet that they give you at check in. NOTE: the road signs to the beaches are very small so be careful not to drive by them.

FOOD: Directly across from the hotel is an international restaurant at the Floris hotel called Sjoulette (spelling?). You can literally walk to it. We found it to be pretty good, as was the Indonesian restaurant at the top of the hill before you get back to the main road. They had a tasting option where you could try either 26 or 13 different dishes and the prices really weren't bad. Both of these are less than 5 minutes from the hotel. If you want more options head downtown to Willemstad. NOTE: you will likely have to pay to park, but it wasn't too expensive, at least during the day.. but be sure to bring cash and the coupon booklet they give you at checkin as it has many freebies and discounts. (i.e. buy one get one entrance to the maritime museum, which is across the water from the Venezuelan market). My boyfriend did eat breakfast at the restaurant onsite called Portofino's, but it was around $30 for the buffet, which I thought was way to steep for what it was.

STAFF: We found the majority of the staff to be very helpful and friendly, especially the pool boy who was very efficient and a hard worker. Again, be sure to get the directions printed out as they are very helpful if you are driving.

Room Tip: Try for a room that is not on the ground floor to hopefully avoid issues with mosquitos

I read the reviews for many of the hotels and was almost set on the Hilton but the Marriott just had something about it that got my attention. I am SOOO glad that I went with the Marriott. We walked over to the Hilton and just walking through the grounds proved that we chose the right place.
Gino and Carlos at the front of the Marriott were fantastic! Both guys gave great advice and information about the area and island. I can't say enough positive things about these guys.
-Portofino had a pleasent staff, the food was nice and was in the US$60 range for a dinner for two.
-Voila Delicatessen was where we got a lot of food while trying to save a little money. The pastries ranged from US$2.50-$4.00. Soft drinks were US$2.50.
-Seabreeze Swim Up Bar & Restaurant was fun and the food was pretty typical for sports bar type of food. A Burger and fries was US$16. We ate while sitting in the pool and lunch with 2 beers, 1 soda, and two menu items it ended up being US$60.
-Emerald Casino was clean but this is where the resort falters. The only staff on premises that we weren't pleased with were in the casino. We had to repeatedly ask for drinks that were very slow to arrive. Even in Las Vegas you don't wait as long as we did. The casino wasn't very large but was more clean than some of the others that we visited during our stay.

It is very common that 15% gratuity + 9% tax to be added at most places. If you pay in USD$ expect USD$ bills for change but Florin (local currency) for the coins so you'll get the short end of those transactions.

The room (153) was pleasant and I think we had one of the best at the resort. Open the curtains and the beach was just steps away. The pool and jacuzzi were maybe 50 steps or less away. Even with everything so close we couldn't hear anything from them. What we heard was just the fantastic sounds of the water crashing on the beach.

If you are from the US make sure to bring adapters for power. As long as your electronics do 110-220 then all you need is the adapters (two metal rod type). The room only had one outlet with two plugs with the standard US style blade connections.

Free Wi-Fi in the lobby help keep in touch with the world.

Overall this is THE place that we would come back to if we return to the island.

Stayed 5 nights at the Marriott, its has a gorgeous setting when you walik into the loby and see the pool and ocean, loved the pool, we love to snorkel, and that's one big reason I picked this hotel. Some of the best on snorkeling in front of a hotel that we have done. Snorkeled everyday, loved ever minute. Loved the hotel bar, which we visited every night, bartenders were very nice and made it fun for us, pizza was great... We also liked the casino which we visited allot, actually had two nice wins $250 and a $800 though I may have left allot there... buts its all fun. I would highly recommend this place, spend the extra money and get a ocean view, we had a suite, did cost more, but you only live once. We had stayed 5 nights at the Marriott in Aruba before Curacao... and loved this place much more. Hope we can go back again

Wonderful time at Marriott Curaçao. Everything was great but room was average (other than the view) and could use a little updating. Food and drinks were consistent with what you would get in any full service Marriott. Keep an eye out for Rigo Rodriguez, the security guy. He is a great ambassador for the island and for Marriott. Just wonderful. Concierge was helpful as well. My son Tate and I loved the beach. Overall, great stay!
