“Very unusual attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

Have been here many times including attending services for Sabbath and Holidays. An absolutely beautiful and historic building and very unusual in its architecture. It is a shame that they have started charging for admission which may keep people away. I understand that they do need funds to keep the building open.
If historical buildings interest you, you can't go wrong. It is a "must see."

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

As one of the oldest, still functioning synagogues, it was truly interesting to see. There is a Torah from the 1300s displayed in their small museum next to the synagogue. There is a $10 entrance fee per person, but since it goes towards the maintenance of the synagogue, I felt it was worth it. There are no "floors" in the synagogue itself--the floor is made up of sand. The small, 2 floor museum next door houses various artifacts throughout Jewish history and the caribbean. There are a few workers/volunteers there who can assist with any questions. It is truly a must see if in Curacao!

“oldest sona”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

there is a torah written in the year 1392 on display in there museum. that more than made up for the $10 entry fee. there was renovation work in the main place of worship. So expectedly, it was messy.

“Beautiful synagogue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

What a beautiful place to visit with a rich and living history. The temple has a sand floor which is very unqiue in itself. Definitely a must see.

“Shabbat in the Sand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

There is nothing more spiritual than spending the day of rest in the oldest continuously-running synagogue in the western hemisphere. Even if you're just in town on a weekday, take time to wander through the courtyard...and visit the gift shop!
