“More than expected Wow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Several people recommended that we visit the synagogue as part of our visit to Curacao. We were blessed with a treat that was totally unexpected. After exploring the synagogue and the museum we asked a question of the volunteer at the museum desk. I did not get this wonderful lady's name. She was originally from Belgium and was a holocaust survivor. We had a discussion with her that will stay with us for the remainder of our lives. Her mother was gassed at Auschwitz and she and some siblings were saved by nuns. If you ever visit Curacao by all means visit the synagogue and take the time to ask the volunteer at the museum desk if she might be this lady. I assure you it will be worth every minute you spend talking with her.

“Most remarkable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Not only is the synagogue beautiful and incredible to see, your visit includes a very impressive museum. You should also walk around the neighborhood and also see the other synagogue building a couple of blocks away that has been converted into a municipal building.
I have been here seevral times and each time I find something different.

“Go for the sense of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

The synagogue by itself is not breathtaking since it is a simple interior but the sense of history in the place is riveting. To be standing in the oldest continuous used Jewish place of worship in the Western Hemisphere (even older than the one in Rhode Island) is why you visit. For the uninitiated but interested like me, I was fascinated to learn the three different reasons why there is sand on the floor of the synagogue. Remember to wear reasonable clothes but they are tolerant and didn't enforce "no shorts". The courtyard is really nice as are the gift shop and the museum (see separate review) on premises.

“Nice piece of History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

I enjoyed viewing the synagogue and it's museum. Very clean and informative. Liked the sand floor. Thought $10/person for how little there was to see was a bit steep to pay.

“Interesting and Informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Nice museum and the Synagogue is very interesting. I have never been to a Synagogue with a sand floor and it was educational to read why the floor is sandy.
