“Very interesting..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

So cultural and definitely makes you admire how it all started after the inquisition. An experience that even those who aren't very religious can appreciate..

“Treasure on the Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

We took the shuttle bus from our resort into town and just easily walked to the synagogue, Yes, there is a $10 entrance fee but we did not mind paying it to help with the upkeep. There is so much history here - from the founding families and the family trees to the merger of the two synagogues. There are plenty of artifacts and everything is well marked. The island families are very interesting. We did not get to services but our friend did and lucked out on a once a month family service - only 1 hr. from 6:30 - 7;30.

“Holy Sand”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

My family loves historic sites and this is one of the most unusual. The oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere is a unique trip back to a time when practical solutions connected God with culture. The worship temple is ornate in its traditional design, but humble and simple with its sand floor that surely had cushioned millions of worshippers and millions more visitors. To envision a synagogue on an remote island supervised by the Dutch 50 miles north of Venezuela in the 18th Century is a surprising discovery.

“Sand floor synagogue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

While walking around Williamsport we visited this old synagogue with sand floors. A small museum describing history is worth a few minutes of your time.

“Impressive piece of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

The synagogue is very impressive, a lot of historical documents and artifacts. Who would have thought the oldest synagogue in the Western hemisphere is here? A sand floor with an explanation. Go find it!
