“Lovely stay at Easter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We took a last minute deal from Europe and stayed at Avila for 6 nights over Easter.
We had a wonderful stay and the weather was magnificent. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The room was in the old wing, with some ocean view, quiet, clean and an ok size. The 2 hotel beaches were the best part of the facility, gorgeous, clean and calm, traveling with a 4-yr old, this was the best part of our stay.
We also used the gym during our visit and loved the spectacular ocean view from the treadmills.
Our ONLY complaint was the food. Tasteless and unexciting with a base consisting of french fries and bread. We did however find that the island as a whole lacked real culinary experiences, so maybe choose another destination if you are a real food lover.
This (the food) is the only thing that would keep us from returning to Avila, everything else was definitely worth the travel.

We began our stay on Curacao with five nights at Avila Hotel in Willemstaad. We stayed in the Blues Wing in a room facing toward town (West) with a balcony that provided a view straight down into the beautiful Carribean. From our deck, we were able to watch tropical fish, ships entering port, sailboat races and dolphins! Very pleasant mornings were spent on the deck lingering over coffee and planning our day. Avila is staffed with personable, friendly people that helped us with questions and provided excellent service. We ate in Avila's restaurants, and while they were high priced, the food was always of quality and the service was good. The only complaint that we have is that the bed was terribly uncomfortable and in need of upgrading. We were in Curacao to celebrate our 30th anniversary, and believe we slept on a 30 year old mattress! Good news for future travelers... we were told the entire Blues Wing will be getting upgraded - hope this includes new beds!

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side are quieter and have a lovely view of the sunsets

We liked this hotel very much. Very well built, not too big and very classy. Very colourful, just like everything in Curacao. The beaches and the bars are well located, just like the whole hotel.
During our stay we found out that the Dutch royal family also chooses this hotel, during their stay in the Netherlands Antilles. Pretty expensive, but it pays off.
Our room (313) didn't have an AC, but a ventilator, so at some point it becomes too cold, if you just leave it on. If you leave it off, it gets too hot in the room.
The staff are pretty slow compared to Central European standards, but fast compared to islands standard.

My husband and I just got back from our anniversary trip. I researched many islands and hotels before choosing the perfect place and I'm so glad I chose the Avila in Curaçao! In every business there's going to be good and bad reviews. Naturally, I was nervous about staying at this hotel. The staff blew those worries away the minute we sat foot in the lobby! Randolph gave us a warm bon bini, our bellhop (wish I remembered his name!), and our room attendant, Pearl made our stay so relaxing and carefree! I also cannot forget to mention Kenneth at the Blues bar, Robbie, Elvis, Clifford (I liked his banana. ..liquor drink that is! Lol I will never forget that moment!), Winerla & many others from the Scooner bar! I can go on and on but, ya'll get the idea. We stayed in room 409 @ the Octagon and was not disappointed. The view was amazing! The private beaches were truly private and the security at night made me feel really safe. The layout of the establishment was just breathtaking! We were within walking distance to a few restaurants. I highly recommend Rosendale. Robert, the owner, was filled with knowledge when it came to the history of the neighborhood and the island itself. I also highly recommend Bij Blauw. The view of the sea from the restaurant was spectacular and so was their food! The food from the restaurants at the hotel was great as well. We didn't care for the BBQ night though. It was pricey and there wasn't much of a variety. I made reservations from the states, received confirmations but they didn't have us on the list but hey sat us anyway, should've been our cue to go elsewhere for dinner. I would've given the hotel five stars but gave it 4 instead. The walls or door of our room was really thin because we heard people talking as they walked down the hall (elevator was right outside our room). Also there was some sort of remodeling going on in the morning during the last two days we were there that woke us up nice and early. Overall Avila was so much more than what we expected! Full of history!!! My husband's client was actually born there when the lobby was once a hospital. Not only was she shocked to hear about our impending trip to Curaçao, she was speechless when he told her we were staying at the Avila! Her connection to this hotel made it even more special for us to stay at. Masi danki Avila & the entire staff for ya'lls excellence in customer service! Curaçao is forever in our hearts and we will definitely be back to stay at the Avila♡ Te otro bia!!!

This quaint hotel has become our "home" on Curacao. Just completed an eight night stay; we see no reason to stay anywhere else. Location is convenient. Right on the ocean, short walk to downtown area, buses and taxis always available directly in front of the hotel, (Budget Car Rental also on premise), quality restaurants within walking distance. Snorkeling is fairly good right off the private beaches, especially just beyond the rock pier and ropes. We stay in the Blue Wing, (rooms on the pier) which provides a great view of the whole property and ocean with easy beach access. Our room had already been upgraded and as we were leaving, the rest of the Blue Wing was being upgraded.

This is a full service hotel, with plenty to do, drink, and eat, yet small enough that the staff knows your name and/or room number. Guests are diverse, with the majority being Dutch. Language no problem, as staff seems to speak all of them. If you are looking to party loud and long into the night, this place is probably not for you; but, if relaxation, romance, quality, and service is what you seek, this is the place. I do wish the Coffee Factory would open an hour earlier though.

My boyfriend and I just returned home from a wonderful experience at Avila.
The hotel and private beaches surrounding it are beautiful. We stayed 12 nights in an Octagon Superior room in the Octagon Wing with ocean view. The room was luxurious, spacious and clean. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a glass wall, but other than some other reviewers mentioned, it's not transparent and we didn't experience privacy issues because of this.
The quality of the hotel restaurants and bars is acceptable, but we mostly enjoyed the restaurants and bars in the neighborhood.
The beaches are perfect for snorkeling.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Octagon wing are the luxurious renovated rooms.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

Just came back and had an amazing time. At first we were overwhelmed because of the luxury, but we got used to it very fast.

- Location: excellent. Just 15 min walking to all the "Pontjesbrug". A safe and nice walk - opposite to earlier reviews
- Rooms: we stayed at the main building. Rooms were luxurious and we had our own balcony. Only con is the bathroom which is seperated by glass (not see-through) so hear eachother's "noises".
- Hotel: the beach is amazing, enough beachbeds, pool was great, gym (incl sauna & jacuzzi) was free and very nice.

Most prominent con: the prices at the hotel are very high and no value-for-money. Grab your lunch and diner in one of the many restaurants in the neighbourhood.
