“Don't waste your $$ on dinner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

We stayed at the Floris Hotel. Breakfast was great. We were involved in a sporting event and did not return till almost closing time one evening. We ran into the restaurant (10 people-over $1000 in a bill) - The staff was rude, put out, would only let us order a limited menu - if I could have found a manager the entire table would have discussed our dissatisfaction with him/her. The food we received was either under cooked or over cooked.
So the next night we tell management that we will be late-about 9:30. So when we show up @ 9:30 we have the same nasty waiter and he tried to limit our selections again. One of us spoke to the cook who agreed to give us almost anything on the menu-he did limit a few items. The food was overpriced for the quality that we received. We understood from other people that if we had eaten at "normal" times the food and service were better than we received.

“Nice setting but too pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

If you're on a budget, this is not a restaurant to go. The setting is nice, located in a hotel, food is not bad, but really too expensive.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

We were staying at the Marriott across the street over Easter. We heard it might be hard to get dinner reservations on Easter Sunday so we thought we would just call over to Sjalotte. She explained that because it was a Sunday, it was a barbeque buffet. It sounded good and so we made our reservation. Upon entering the restaurant, it was empty. All the tables are outside, which is normally fine but there were flies EVERYWHERE. We probably had 10 around our table before we even got our food. Now, I understand the restaurant is outside and it's inevitable that some flies may be around but it was out of hand. Now, onto the food. I can't accurately judge this restaurant on this point because we only had the buffet. So my review of the food is solely based on the buffet. The food was average and I think that is being generous. There was a round table in the middle with salad, potatoes and some side dishes. All were not that great because they are sitting out in chafing dishes. Then there is a station with a cook who grills you chicken, ribs, or some type of beef - it did not look very good so I stuck with chicken and ribs. Again, just fine. Now regarding the wait staff, we probably saw a waitress one time (when we sat down). Now, it's a buffet so they don't need to constantly serve you, but we needed more to drink and that didn't happen. Then when we wanted our check, we probably waited 20 minutes to get someone's attention. Also, the wait staff was less than friendly. At most of the restaurants we ate at in Curacao, the wait staff were overly nice so I definitely noticed a difference here. Overall, this was a lackluster experience and we were very upset that we wasted a dinner/night out here. We couldn't wait to leave.

“Excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

My wife and I ate at Sjalotte, which is right across the street from the Marriott, which is where we were staying.
This restaurant, like most of the rest that we ate at, had very slow service. However this did not bother us as we knew that you should plan on about an 1 1/2 to 2 hours when eating out. This is not the US, where we expect fast service, and to be checked on 2 to 3 times during a meal. They just don't do that on Curacao.
My wife had the trio of fish, and I had the Mahi Mahi. Both were very good. See pictures below.
The restaurant itself is nice with it's outdoor seating. There were no bugs, which we did find a another restaurant.
Again, I must stress that the service is much slower then in the states, and they do not check to see if everything is ok, or if they can get you anything. Not just at this restaurant but at most of them on the island. It's just the way they are trained to wait on you.
I want to say as well, that the wait staff were very nice. It amazes me when people complain about everything. Look in the mirror, perhaps the problem is not with the staff but with you. A smile and being friendly usually gets the same response back.
I also have to laugh when people complain about the cost. You are in the Caribbean folks, it's going to cost you more. Stay home and eat at Macdonald's if you want a cheap meal.
Also wanted to mention,on Sunday nights they offer a buffet, which we looked at, but choose to come back on another night so that we could order off the menu.

“Don't come if you are not willing to wait”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Upon entering despite there being empty tables they say its full and were unable to provide a time when tables will become avail. More than 1 hr wait for food with less than half the restaurant occupied.
Hard to get service even when staff looks relax chatting. Soup was not worth the money. Set dinner is prob most worth it on the menu.
