“Worth the taxi price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2012

Playa Porto Marie is on the quiet side of the island...wonderful snorkeling left of pier.
$45 taxi ride from port. Nice facilities and the chair which was wonderful under a palm tree, was only $5.50 USD including admission per day. Lots of coral formations and fish
to snorkel. Our cab driver came back for us, showed us wild flamingoes and a favorite island tree, and a beautiful view of our ship. His name was Russell.

Nice facilities at beach. Very clean and nice.

“Great beach area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

My wife and I went with some cruise friends in a car rental. Because of the rental car the trip was not that expensive. The distance from the cruise port can be around 30 minutes depending on traffic. Parking was free.

The roads are good up until the final portion of the trip. After you pass the church the road is pretty bad but if you take it slow you can drive around most of the pot holes. This only adds to the adventure.

The entrance fee and a beach chair was $5.50 per person. I think this is a steal of a deal. It did take a couple hours for someone to ask us to pay.
The beach did fill up a couple hours into the day but there were still spots available.

The snorkelling off of the beach was pretty good. The reef balls are interesting. On the day we were there the snorkelling was best to the far right side. The dive shop was a decent deal for snorkel rentals. There were many many people diving here so I assume that the diving was good.

The beach bar/restaurant had a lot of selection. We ate lunch with a fantastic view of the water. We did have to wait awhile for our grilled cheese as we ate at the peak of lunchtime.

“Remote beach area, nice but not worth the cab fare”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

We stopped in Curacao on our cruise and wanted to go to a nice beach area. I had done some research and thought Porto Marie sounded like a good place. The cab fare from Willemstad was $45 each way for two people. We thought, what the heck we may never get here again, so off we went. It took about 30 - 45 min. to get there and there are some dirt roads where the rain washed them out making it a very rough ride. The beach itself was quaint but very rocky in the water and shoreline. There is a $4 entrance fee and a $10 beach chair rental fee. There was a bad sewage smell coming from the bathrooms near entrance to the beach area, so if you go, get place much farther down away from the entance area....ugh! There is a bar, bathroom and diving shop here. There was also some topless sun bathers.
I would not recommend if on a cruise ship, but if your staying on the island it may be a way spend a day.

“Small but beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Porto Marie is a well equiped beach for visitors. There is parking, access to beach chairs and toilets and a bar with snacks and beverages. The beach is small but beautiful with a narrow sandy strip and protected cove. The size of the beach makes it such that you are close to your neighbors and the rows of chairs take up much of the actual beach frontage. That was the one thing that distinguished this beach from others for us and it kept us from going back more than once. We enjoyed the snorkeling here as the water was very calm and we saw some cool fish at the first reef. I would recommend visiting Porto Marie during a trip to Curacao but also highly recommend that visitors go to the other beautiful beaches on the island as well.

“Great beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2011

Great beach for a visit. Lots of amenities which is great but also the chairs are packed in there. The swimming platform is cool and the view all around was great. Worth a visit.
