We stayed at this hotel form July 5 to July 12.
We booked with Nolitours. So we had a private check in. Theys give us our room key and bracelets in the bus that takes us from the airport to the hotel. That is a great advantage! No line-up. You arrive at the hotel and can go directly to your room.
Now for the hotel :
Food : OK (we knew that food in Cuba is not that great, and this is the case).
Room : Very good. Except that there was a lot of mosquitoes in the room. (Maybe this is worse in summer?). Every night, before going to sleep, we did a bug killing job. At the end of the week, there were traces of dead mosquitoes all over the ceiling.
Don’t be fool by the hotel description though. If you choose a room with two double bed, they are not double bed. They are 3/4 beds! So very tight for 2 adults.
One day, my room key ceased to function. Even the maid was not able to open our door. I had to wait over an hour for the repair man. He changed the batteries in the lock of the door (Yes, these locks work on 4 AA batteries). It took him 2 minutes. They could give a screwdriver and extra batteries to the maid. We would have to wait!
Maid service : We were 3 in the rooms and there were only towels for 2 people. We had to look up for the maid the first day and remind her once in the weed to leave enough towels. Other than that, it was ok.
Pools : great.
Beach : great! Some people we met had sand flees, but we didn’t.
Service : OK. Boris, at the quiet pool bar is very friendly. The bar in the snack bar of the activity pool is the second best one. Others are ok too. Not very smiley people, but they did their job. Same thing for people at the buffet.
à la carte restaurant : The first day, the reservation system was out. We could only present ourselves to the restaurant and hope that there were some places. The second day, I waited 1 hour to make my 2 reservations. Only one person to take the reservations. We took French and Japenese. Both were excellent (compared to the buffet). Wine is a little bit better in a la carte restaurant.
The grill for Nolitour clients : It is a buffet like dinner. The food a little better than the buffet, but barely. Service was very slow for the wine or other things to drink.
Doctor : Yes I had to go to the doctor. (for an otite). There is a doctor 6 days a week at the hotel. So If you need it is a good thing. You have to pay for it though (minimum 50 pesos + cost of medication).
Check-out : That was horrible! check-out is at noon. We presented ourselves at the reception at 11h30, as a lot of people did, of course. There was only one clerk for check-in AND check-out. Another one hour wait!
mosquitoes : Yes there are a lot of mosquitoes in the room and outside. Bring a good mosquito repeller.
Show : The shows were ordinary. Don’t go at this hotel for the shows.
