We stayed at this hotel form July 5 to July 12.

We booked with Nolitours. So we had a private check in. Theys give us our room key and bracelets in the bus that takes us from the airport to the hotel. That is a great advantage! No line-up. You arrive at the hotel and can go directly to your room.

Now for the hotel :

Food : OK (we knew that food in Cuba is not that great, and this is the case).

Room : Very good. Except that there was a lot of mosquitoes in the room. (Maybe this is worse in summer?). Every night, before going to sleep, we did a bug killing job. At the end of the week, there were traces of dead mosquitoes all over the ceiling.

Don’t be fool by the hotel description though. If you choose a room with two double bed, they are not double bed. They are 3/4 beds! So very tight for 2 adults.

One day, my room key ceased to function. Even the maid was not able to open our door. I had to wait over an hour for the repair man. He changed the batteries in the lock of the door (Yes, these locks work on 4 AA batteries). It took him 2 minutes. They could give a screwdriver and extra batteries to the maid. We would have to wait!

Maid service : We were 3 in the rooms and there were only towels for 2 people. We had to look up for the maid the first day and remind her once in the weed to leave enough towels. Other than that, it was ok.

Pools : great.

Beach : great! Some people we met had sand flees, but we didn’t.

Service : OK. Boris, at the quiet pool bar is very friendly. The bar in the snack bar of the activity pool is the second best one. Others are ok too. Not very smiley people, but they did their job. Same thing for people at the buffet.

à la carte restaurant : The first day, the reservation system was out. We could only present ourselves to the restaurant and hope that there were some places. The second day, I waited 1 hour to make my 2 reservations. Only one person to take the reservations. We took French and Japenese. Both were excellent (compared to the buffet). Wine is a little bit better in a la carte restaurant.

The grill for Nolitour clients : It is a buffet like dinner. The food a little better than the buffet, but barely. Service was very slow for the wine or other things to drink.

Doctor : Yes I had to go to the doctor. (for an otite). There is a doctor 6 days a week at the hotel. So If you need it is a good thing. You have to pay for it though (minimum 50 pesos + cost of medication).

Check-out : That was horrible! check-out is at noon. We presented ourselves at the reception at 11h30, as a lot of people did, of course. There was only one clerk for check-in AND check-out. Another one hour wait!

mosquitoes : Yes there are a lot of mosquitoes in the room and outside. Bring a good mosquito repeller.

Show : The shows were ordinary. Don’t go at this hotel for the shows.

My husband and I and our two kids, aged 7 and 4 stayed at Salina from June 22-29. This was our first family trip and we were really excited. We booked this hotel because it was new and the price was decent. When we arrived everyone on our bus got their rooms, we waited 30 mintues for ours. Room was nice enough just smelled very musty. Pools were great except that they weren't cleaned properly or often enough. Food was horrible, I knew it wouldn't be good but it was way worse then what I expected. Only decent meal was the Japanese al-a-carte. They try,but the food is just weird! Female employees are rude and some of the male employees are scary. As a woman, I would not travel alone to this hotel unless you're looking for some action.Don't be too generous with tips and gifts, you'll get taken advantage of. Was a beautiful resort but I guess the negatives out-way the positives. Way too much to list....Try another resort or somewhere other than Cuba. Save the extra money and go somewhere else.

My family stayed at Sirenis from June 28 until July 5. It was a great week and we have absolutely no complaints on this hotel. Check in was quick and smooth, rooms (we are five member family and we had two rooms) were clean and specious, food was prefect (in our opinion most of it was organic), beach beautiful, staff was always helpful and nice no meter you tip or not. We tipped sometimes staff in buffet and maids and we didn’t notice any difference in service.
Hotel is large but beautiful.
Bring old clothing, toothpaste and shampoos. There is construction next to Sirenis (you will not hear it at all) and their workers sometimes stop by and offer shells for clothing. They are so happy when they get anything. They never ask for money.
This was our second trip to Cuba and we loved it even more.

Enjoy!

This hotel was much better than expected! The rooms were extremely new and clean, the grounds were beautiful and well kept and the beach and pools were the best. The staff was OK, not always enthusiastic and smiling, which is understandable given the extremely hot weather they are working in, but they were usually very friendly. We saw a lot of people with bad mosquito bites, however before it got dark we always sprayed some OFF with DEET to keep the bites to a minimum, which helped a lot. The Havana and Catamaran excursions were pricey but really worth it. A la Cartes were good (Japanese, French and Mediterranean), better than the buffet food which isn't bad, it's just not very tasty - this should be expected for Cuba. The resort is huge so there is a lot of walking on a daily basis which wasn't a problem because the shuttles were usually available. Once our week was up, we just couldn't understand how so many people had such horrible complaints about this place!

Problems: lots of mosquitos, 1st night no hot water, ants and flys in rooms (2nd floor), bad water (unless bottled), we all got sick (maybe from pool). Good things: food, beach. I would never go back because of mosquitos.
