My sister and I went to Blau Marina Varadero for a week from August 17th - 25th. Usually we are the backpacker travel type, so this was our first all inclusive vacation. We were unsure of what to expect from this hotel since there were some negative reviews. After researching every single hotel on the peninsula, I am happy to say that we definitely made the right decision!!
The hotel was extremely clean! There were maids and cleaning staff everywhere you looked. The hotel was spotless!
The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and clean. I can be very picky when it comes to hotel rooms, and this far exceeded my expectations! Our room was cleaned daily, mini fridge stocked every day, and towels were always fresh and clean … no stains or marks on them at all. It was convenient to have the sink and vanity separate from the toilet and showering area. One thing to note however is the shower head is a little low. I am 5’5 and I just fit underneath it, but it is detachable, so it really is not an issue at all. We stayed in Block 12 which had an amazing location. Our building faced the main pool on one side and the ocean on the other. It was right beside the main building/buffet/stage area which was great. As well, we were far away from the disco so the noise did not bother us in the least. Many people are mentioning the construction of the new resort across the street. I am not sure why this is even being mentioned as a complaint by other people because it did not affect our trip.
The food offered by the hotel was delicious. Both my sister and I gained weight which just goes to show you that the food is good and is not at all how people described it in other reviews. Yes, the buffet food could be a little cold at times. However, we figured out that for the most part it was the air conditioning that would cool down the food because it was steaming hot in the buffet. If you are unsure of the food temperature you can always take your food to the grill where they cook fresh meat and ask them to heat it up for you. There are also fresh pizzas and pastas offered in the buffet and you can make them they way you like … absolutely delicious!! There are snacks available 24/7 which was super handy after a long flight. For breakfast, there was a fresh omelet station which surpassed our expectations and the chef was just as impressive as well; super friendly. There was always fresh guava available at breakfast which was a great treat. The sit down dinners were amazing. We booked our reservations for the Spanish, Cuban, and Italian meals. The portions are very big and there was lots of variety. Our favourite was the Spanish meal. The ladies who helped us book the dinners at the customer service desk were great! There were three of them who made our trip very special; their names were Vienna, Nancy, and unfortunately I forget the last one. They were always there to help us and even assisted in helping book our private tour trip to Havana. Our trip to Havana was great! We went on a private tour in an old car. The trip cost $130 CUC and was worth every penny. Our travel guide Blexie was absolutely amazing. He is an English professor at the university and is very well educated and easy to get along with. Together with the driver, he made our journey unforgettable. He even took us to his home town of Matanzas which was very cool! We were able to see the real Cuba and get a very authentic look at the culture and way of life. As well, we received a very detailed tour of Havana city and were able to see way more than you would on a bus tour. They took us to a very nice Cuban restaurant for lunch. Prices are about $15 CUC per person but it was worth every penny … especially since the food is cooked fresh. Moreover, he took us to a roadside rum shop where we were able to sample and buy rum … a very cool experience! We were also able to learn a lot about Cuba through our tour guide Blexie. We were able to comfortably talk about the political standing of Cuba, what life is like for Cubans, and we also discussed the fun aspects of Cuba. If you want to learn a lot about Cuba in a relaxed and easy going environment I would highly recommend booking a private tour with Blexie. His email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. He was extremely friendly, easy to get along with, and very accommodating.
Another point about the Blau Marina Varadero would be the excellent level of service. The staff is willing to bend over backwards to make sure your trip is nothing but amazing. The bar staff at the main bar in the lobby were great!!! They were always so friendly and would make the most delicious drinks. Be sure to tip them a peso after your night at the bar because they really appreciate it and a peso goes a long way for them! One thing to note, which was not a problem at all, was they would run out of mint for mojitos at some of the bars. We would just walk to the next bar and they would usually have some. It really wasn’t a huge deal at all and does not change my overall positive impression of Blau Marina Varadero.
Overall, our trip to Blau Marina Varadero was absolutely amazing and we cannot wait to book our next trip here! I really do feel that we got more than our money’s worth and I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. Both my sister and I are already planning to return and can’t wait to do so – this hotel deserves a 5/5!
