My husband and I have returned from yet another wonderful vacation at the Paradisus Princesa del Mar. Suffice it to say, we have stayed here more than once and the resort, its gardens, it pools, its restaurants, its beach but most importantly, its staff, never cease to amaze and impress us and it's the reason we keep going back.
Gregory, the Resident Manager is a remarkable man who never seems to sleep because he is up before dawn and still up after midnight taking care of all of the guests needs and socializing with everyone while still running a tight ship. He even wanted to take a picture of us with him before we left for home at 7:00am and by the time we got home, the photo was in our in box waiting for us. It was a very nice touch and a very nice memento.
The restaurants have all changed their menus since our last stay here and if the menus were wonderful before they are even better than that now. There is at least one pasta, pork, chicken, beef, fish and vegetarian dish on each menu at all of the a la carte restaurants and the quality and presentation of the food is always amazing and delicious. Each time we go ,the order of our favorite restaurants changes, but not the level or quality of the food. The buffet also has a wide and delicious selection of food to please everyone at each meal. You do need to make reservations for the a la carte restaurants ahead of time and in the low season it is not a problem but in the high season (Nov-April) you want to do the entire weeks worth of booking as soon as you arrive to that the restaurants still have space.
The room was always spotless and our maid went out of her way to decorate our room with flowers, towel art and little thank you notes which were really appreciated. Our mini bar was stocked daily and we never had to worry about that. The coffee maker in the room also worked.
The pool was being regrouted while we were there. One half of the pool was completely empty on Saturday when we arrived and I have never seen so many men work that hard at repairing and regrouting. The pool was completely filled and fully functioning again by Monday morning. I personally couldn't believe how fast it was and it didn't effect the guests at all since the other half was still open during that short time anyway. There are plenty of loungers around the pool for everyone to enjoy.
The staff were also busy painting and giving the resort a fresh facelift which took no time at all eiter and didn't interfere with the guests enjoyment of any of the facilities.
The entertainment staff work extremely hard and put on all sorts of activities for the guests to take advantage of if they so desire. In the morning the activities are at the beach and poolside in the afternoon. The evening entertainment is always excellent as well and the costumes are gorgeous. The Water Ballet is always well received and attended. All of the bands that play at the resort each day are also excellent.
The beach and pool are very clean and tractors clean the seaweed that washes up on the beach. The beach is quite wide and the water is warm, usually pretty calm and shallow for quite a distance. The pool water is very refreshing especially after lying in the hot Cuban sun and the pool bar is well stocked and the service is great. As mentioned there are loungers in abundance at the pool and the beach (which have palapas) for everyone to enjoy.
The excursions are also great. Everyone who does the catamaran with the dolphin swim comes back raving about it!!! The trip into havana including the cigar factory and the tropicana is a must see. Havana is an amazing city and it history is evident everywhere you look. The jeep safari is also good. There is a straw market in Varadero which I enjoy. You can take a double decker bus for 5CUC and hop on and off as many time as you want during the day and it's a great and economical way to see Varadero.
Most important, the staff of the resort all amazing. The Raquet Club staff are unbelievable and the food and menu are really great for breackfast, snacks, or a light lunch and the service is great. The staff af the Customer Relations Office are the best and go out of their way to help make your stay as enjoyable and worry free as possible and are quick to find you anything you may be needing. The bell boys are great and friendly and will eagerly give you a lift if you need one around the resort. I really can't say enough about how hard working and wonderful the staff on the entire property are. They always have a smile on their face and a kind work to say. The gardiners are always prepared to give the ladies a flower and an oragami creation. You don't have to tip anyone on the resort to get great service but they really appreciate the kindness and return it ten fold.
I am already looking forward to going back in the near future.
