“A Little Bit Of Everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We spent a week in Varadero and played four rounds of golf. The course has a little bit of everything and well spaced out. It offers 18 friendly golf holes with some that let you grip and rip and others that make you select your club wisely. The fairways are very fair and loosing a ball will take some effort. The holes near the club house offer a great view of the ocean and the resorts that surround the course. The staff are extremely helpful and will go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable. I've played more challenging and kept courses in Canada and the US, but you're in Cuba and playing golf ...... what could be better.

“A little confusing for tee times, but golf was great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Tee times were mostly ignored, but if you show up they will get you out. All the rounds we played were in the afternoon, teeing off around 1 and we finished in 4.5 hours max. The greens did not look like much, in that we expected them to play very slow but they were surprisingly fast and consistent from green to green. The sand in bunkers was very inconsistent, definitely on the hard side. Only one hole, the par 5 with two creeks between the tee and green, had a number of unrepaired ball marks on it. Given that the green fee was covered by the hotel and we able to bring our golf clubs for free, and only had to pay 67 CuP total for the cart, it was a bargain.
The course could use a marshal, as on the last day, a two some in front of us, managed to play through at least two groups who were obviously beginners. At best they were hitting the ball 50 yards, and I thought that they obviously didnt meet the criteria of a 36 handicap. The last round, because of this was frustrating, but we still managed to finish in a little of 4.5 hours. I did hear some people complain that the round took over 5 hours in the morning. Beer was $2.50 CuP each.
We played there three times.

“Picturesque Course”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

My husband and I golfed here three times. It was our first trip to Cuba and we had the option to purchase golf with our travel package. It was cheaper for us to book it with our travel package than if we had gone to the golf course itself and paid for three rounds each.

We were not aware that we needed a certificate from our travel company to play and had booked a tee time the day after we arrived. Despite not having this certificate and a bit of communication barrier, they still let us play as long as we brought it the next day.

The course itself is very well maintained considering the climate. The greens were a bit of a challenge as they were rough and bumpy but after the first day, we got used to them.

I am not sure if the course follows booked tee times as the second day we were behind 8 carts waiting to tee off although we had booked a tee time. I am pretty sure you could just walk up and play and they wouldn't turn you away which is why i think people were just showing up that particular morning. It made for a very long round of golf.

There is the option for you to store your clubs there for the week so you don't have to lug them back and forth to your hotel.

The only part of the course I did not like was the bathroom situation. I think there are two on the course, no seats and there was no toilet paper in one.

Make sure you have a camera for hole eighteen. Best photo opportunity of my trip I think! And afterwards go upstairs of the clubhouse and have a drink. Great ocean views to walk around and see there as well.

We will definitely go back and golf in Cuba!

“Better than i thought...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

We had been to Varadero many times and always passed by the golf course thinking it did not look that good or tough. We finally decided to play it and we were amazed at how nice it is and how tough it is. We played when it was calm and played it when it was really windy. It was like night and day with that wind. Sometimes you had to take 2-3 extra clubs to get to the hole but most times you had to aim 10-20 YARDS left or right of your target as that wind moved the ball so much. Was not used to the greens as they are a lot longer than we usually play on but they rolled true. It took a couple of holes to get use to the speed but after that i don't think i ever putted better in my life lol.
We have played some nice courses and this one we really put high on our list as you have to include the scenery from many of the holes.
If you are a golfer spend the money and do it at least once and take a camera, you will not be disappointed.

“January Golf Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

The course played graet fromTee to Green, however; the greens were slow and bumpy. Obviousy not rolled or cut short. Since I've played here when they had no grass what-so-ever on the Greens, I guess I shouldn't complain.

My only complaint is the cart fees of $33 cuc per/person for 18 holes. This charge is rediculous and displays the greed of management. You should be ashamed of yourself and reconsider this charge.

Rember......if it wasn't for us tourists, especilly the many Canadians who frequent your course & area, you ALL would be unemployed !
