5 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

Stayed from october 31st to november 14th. Weather was great.
This is a very good resort: Great beach, great service and very clean

Food: Fresh, good variety. The only drawback: the coffee is terrible
Service: very attentive and polite
Beach: large, super clean

As for staff, here are my favorites:

Maiel, Dayana

Butler: Iliana and Yainen
Buffet: Reglita
Seafood restaurant: Yuri

Room Tip: I prefer to be on the top (3rd) floor. I had room #2716 and it was perfect. Close to the beach and t...

First time in Cuba. heck first time anywhere south and it was amazing. The staff at the hotel make the difference I think. So first need to thank a few people:

Iliana our maid. our room was always done right and clean :)

Eduardo at the beach grill restaurant. So good at what he does. Amazing waiter.

Ronald our butler. Was very helpful on our first day. showed us the resort and explained everything. What we didn't expect was the phone call halfway thru our stay asking if there was anything else he could do for us. Big points there :)

Juan-Carlos at the 24 hour bar. With service like that, how can you not smile. amazing !!

Pavel at the Caribe restaurant. amazing service.

Ahmed at the buffet. On that last day I wanted a good pasta. I asked him to make something great for me and gestured my plate to him. From then he took over and handed me one of the best pastas I have ever eaten. AMAZING!!

Otto who I'd like to call Mr entertainment. This guy is hilarious and such a great host and MC during the shows every evening.

So how is the hotel?
24 hour bar with entertainment every evening is superb.
rooms although dated, are great given the standards and economy in cuba. You can't have a 21st century hotel room when the country is stuck in the 1960's

In ranking the la carte restaurants:
1. Beach grill
2. La Caribe
3. seafood place
4. Italian... go to the buffet instead... seriously.

The beach is amazing. The entertainment is great. One suggestion I would give is to wander around the hotel. I was sad to find the outdoor big checkers on the last day. would have definitely played a few times if I had known. Its in the 2500 section.

We did get to play some tennis which is available 24/7 (as long as you get your tennis rackets between 7am and 7pm.)

Our checkout was at noon and our flight didn't leave till 4:35 am :( They have a courtesy room where they will hold on to your luggage in a locked room. In the evening we went there for a quick shower ( towels provided) and enjoyed the music at the bar.

internet is available at the bar and in the reception area (slow) you pay 4.5 CUC for 1 hour which you don't have to use up in one shot. (log in log out kind of process)

Even though we have never been, we can safely say this isn't a mexico standard 5 star hotel. But you know what country you are coming to and know what to expect

power is 220v and we had a universal adapter (not converter) in our hotel room. All our electronics could handle 220v so we just plugged in :)

Water is safe. never had any problems with the food. all water is served in front of you straight from a just opened water bottle.

We enjoyed our stay here. We had a standard room on the Sunset side of the resort. The staff were all very friendly & helpful and never expected tips. Although when given they were much appreciated. Our holiday rep Yordie made sure the hotel knew it was a special holiday for us and the butler booked us into one of the Al la carte restaurants. We were treated to a rose petals bubble bath & champagne in our room. The butlers (Gabriel & George) & minibar man were very helpful & anything we requested was taken care of. The maids decorated our bed with towel sculptures each day. The beds are really big and high. Very comfortable mattress. Rooms were spacious & clean. The buffet restaurant had a very wide range of food on offer. The 24hr snack bar was excellent at 3.00 am when we fancied a pizza! The main bar was a very sociable place & the cocktails were great. This place really set the standard for entertainment. The Michael Jackson tribute was great and every night there was something worth watching. Normally we avoid hotel entertainment but here it was worth watching. Poolside the afternoon entertainment was fun. You can avoid it by going to the beach or quiet pool. We often ate lunch in the beachside grill. We ate breakfast there most mornings too. Lovely to watch the sea whilst drinking a coffee. The piano bar was very chilled and offers a great range of rums. All the staff are very busy but always helpful. We were often the last to leave the bar but never felt they were waiting for us to go. It is a relaxing place to stay. All the better for being child free.

Room Tip: Sunset side top floor

First time in Cuba last year April 2014
Can't say anything bad about this place!
We have always been to Mexico and took a last minute trip to the Royalton and I will admit we
both had reservations about going.
The food the people and the hotel is excellent, waiting to go back next year April 2015 and very much looking forward to it!
The rooms were always clean and the service is fantastic and the staff went out of their way to do
what ever they could. It is not the same as Mexico in regards to a 5 star but the price is half of Mexico the beaches are beautiful and so are the people of Cuba. Waiting to go back again!!

Room Tip: Stay away from the rooms near the road and ask for a sunrise side unless you love to bake in the ear...

Very friendly receptionist changed our room from a room (not much View, far away from lobby) to room close to lobby, great balcony to see bit of sunset and ocean and smoke good cigar after long day at the beach. Food was great, beach fantastic and we enjoyed spending early evening trying different drinks and relaxing at the lobby bar. The trip was Jan 2012 when the resort was under the Sandals name but judging by the reviews it sounds like it hasn't changed. We would definitely come back to this resort.

We had a decent time. This is not a sophisticated place but worth 5 *.

The sun kept its promises, the beach was clean, a pelican or four did their stuff, the local fishermen caught nothing and the holiday makers were quiet and polite.

The hotel / resort was ok+-. The drains smelt in the mornings. The domestic staff shout from block to block..... its a Spanish thing.
You will be waken at 6. 30 by shouting and its every 5 minutes thereafter until the end of the working day . It would be good to be able to pay a supplement and have quiet. This is not an option.

The reception area is fine. They inform you at arrival that they will fine you a huge amount if you loose your safe key . It would be an equally bad crime to put the beach towels back in the wrong place. Its a bad start. Check in was protracted and painful.

The gym----the free weights work , anything electric either doesn't or is dangerous and the mats are truly useless. The space is good and clean. You don't come to Cuba to go to a gym unless you are sad or in training , but there is not a lot to do else as there is nowhere much to go off site. Better to have the gym working if you are charging for it....which you are.

Entertainment . Lots of it and with a monkey and Donald duck that must be nice for North Americans . Bands with too loud amplifiers , not necessary as most very good indeed. Entertainment staff that leap about enjoying themselves enormously and a man with an amplifier on the beach suggesting you can win prizes by bursting balloons . Bring ear plugs; use them.

Nice beach cafe - restaurant, both for breakfast and lunch. Fish excellent.
The main bar staff are truly exceptional. Well done. The buffet good) the fish restaurant fine. Service is very good, staff are courteous.

Rooms. Our first room we rejected as by the next hotel and a building site/rubbish tip ( Sunset block?...east side). We ended up ( after tears) in the middle of the sunset blocks, away from the main restaurant entertainment complexes. Probably as good as is on offer. Suited us. Rooms fine, clean, a safe, and you can hear the toilets from the next door room .

We would come again, but it would be good if the management upped their game. Ask the staff to respect their guests basic right to quiet. Strip the gym of equipment you can't service. Sort out the morning sewer smell. Turn down the music amplifiers - by half - and kick the entertainment staff off the beach. After the sun the beach is your class asset , it does not need anything but the sound of waves breaking. Leave the volleyball.
Give the bar staff a pay rise. Aim for a quieter and slightly more sophisticated ambiance. Shoot the monkey and the duck; your European audience are adult minded.

All the same well done. Cuba is a great place, the people we met vey nice. Please keep it that way despite the pressures of mass tourism....which no doubt will get worse. See you again, hopefully.

Arrived Dec 12th and met by Angel which was the butler for the week. Great man and was super helpful in making the supper arrangements. Was always there when you needed something.
Next day explored the wonderful beach and have nothing but praise for the staff on the beach ...the main person was Joel made you feel at home and was very helpful.Drinks came fast and a great variety, snack food was good and no shortage of places to sit.
Supper at the main buffet was great with a good variety of fish, chicken, pork, seafood ,pastas and salads. The service was great from Yoleixy always smiling and there when you needed something.
Went on a private tour of Havana by a company jorgeguide2004@gmail.com or his number in Havana is 07-833-9194.Picked up at the door of your resort and driven to Old Havana for a 3 hour tour by your own guide...guide had great knowledge. Then after a great meal in Old Havana went on a 2 hour tour of New Havana in a convertible old Chev. Then back to the hotel.
In all the resort was 5 stars ,rooms, entertainment, food, Cuban hospitality, beach, and the fine dinning.
Thanks
Gary
