My fiancé and I wanted to go on an all inclusive vacation to Cuba. We have only been to Mexico and wanted to try something new. The resort, staff, food, people were all amazing.I know you are on vacation but if you want to eat dinner at one of the 4 restaurants you must book a reservation unless it is the 24 hour bistro, buffet or the grill at lunch by the beach or pool. Do it ASAP to ensure you get a reservation at one the 4 restaurants. You can only dine at each restaurant once during an 8 day stay except for the buffet and bistro. I find it easier to keep track of time while getting ready if you have a clock in the room. We did not have a clock in our room. If you book an outing or decide to have a nap you can call for a wake up call. The room did have hair dryers but not what you would expect. I have attached a picture for you to view. I would suggest you bring your own. The water pressure for the bathroom sink was good but the shower varied. We had a king size bed and mattress. It was not 2 twins pushed together. There was a vinyl cover the mattress with a flat sheet over top. In the evening sometimes I would find the sheet cool due to vinyl cover under and the humidity but I found a blanket in the closet and put it under the sheet. That seemed to solve the problem. We had an older safe we had to ask the front desk for the lock and key. Make sure you return it or there will be $50.00 charge. The TV in our room was a 120 voltage so we used our electrical converter. I'm sure if we of called they would of brought us one, but we were not using it for anything so we just used our own. The buffet is awesome. No need to bring your own ketchup mustard, relish or salt and pepper. They do have salad dressing but it is Cuban style if you want ranch, ceaser or something like that you might want to bring your own. They have a Poutine bar at lunch which is amazing. We ate at the El Calibre, Las Morales. Both Restaurants were excellent as far as food and service goes. Our last night there my fiancé arranged for a dinner in the sand on the beach which was incredible. We had our own waiter and watched the sun set on our last night. There were candles in the sand around the table. We missed our reservations at the Italian restaurant, due too much fun at the pool bar. My suggestion if you want to eat at all four restaurants do your reservations as soon as possible. If you have dinner at the beach grill try for around 7:30pm you will get to watch the sun set while you have dinner. The resort is mostly Canadians and I would say the average age is mid 30's and up. If you are looking to be wild this resort is not for you. The evening shows were spectacular. My 2 favorite was Triller (That is how it was spelt on stage) and the Rock and Roll Show. If you want a coffee maker you must request one from the front reception. There is No ATM machine so if you want money you have to go in to Varadero to the bank. If you need to go to the bank you have to bring your passport with you. The front desk can exchange Canadian dollars to Cuban dollars (CUC). Don't take out too much money because soon everyone will be on one currency. Everywhere in Cuba only excepts Canadian Credit Cards, for example TD Visa (If you have a credit card through an American based bank they will not except it.) If you do decide to go in to Varadero you can take the double decker bus for $5.00 and get off and on as much as you want for that day. You catch the bus on the main highway just outside the resort. Ladies if you decide to venture into Varadero take the package of tissue they leave you in the hotel bathroom. There will be someone standing at the washroom door with a tip cup and giving you tissue to use for the washroom when you are in Varadero or anywhere else in Cuba. Outside the resort you will also notice there is no toilet seats. The toilet bowl is clean but there is no seat. In the mini mall on the resort you will find 24 hour Bistro, Grocery Store, Cigar & Coffee Store, Salon, Pharmacy, 2 Souvenir Stores, The Italian Restaurant, Pool Tables. We found the coffee on the resort to be the same price at the mall just outside of Varadero. There is another very nice souvenir store on the resort between the main pool and beach. The staff on the resort were excellent. The rooms were cleaned daily before 5:00pm and I always had towel animals made in my bed or in the bathroom. There was always landscapers out working hard manicuring the grounds all day long. The Entertainment staff was also great and outgoing. The bartenders at every bar from the pool, night club and main lobby bar were awesome. They were so good and entertaining we missed our Italian Dinner reservations not because we were too drunk it was because we were having fun socializing. In the beginning of May 2014 the resort will be taken over by the Royalton. The resort will be getting some upgrades and will stay an adult only resort. If you fly Sunwing and go to the morning orientation you will have the option to do the V.I.P at the airport which I suggest if you are flying from west side of Canada and doing the red Eye Flight. It costs $30.00 Pesos per person. You also have the option to do a late check out if the room is available. If you have to check out by noon no worries there showers and a place to store your luggage. You will have to ask the front desk for a towel. You can still watch the shows and enjoy the food on the resort while you wait for the bus to pick you up to take you to the airport. Our bus did not come until 11:15pm because our flight was not until 3:00am. If you decide to do a tour, I highly recommend the Jeep Safari. They are standard Jeeps and you will need your Canadian license to drive. We had a fantastic time and would go back again in a heart beat.
