“A decent hotel with nice beach and good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Spent 6 nights here in June 2012. The hotel, whilst looking slightly dated, is reasonable and littered with plenty of helpful staff members. Having spoken to several people who have visited cuba on previous occasions, they all stated that the food here was better than all other hotels in Varadero. The main buffet area, had a good mix of food that was very nice, and each night had different themes to the food, e.g. Mexican. The staff here are also very helpful and serve you with drinks etc.

The hotel also had al a carte restaurants which you had to book into at the main reception. We could only try the 'Japanese' and the beach bar, as all tables where fully booked for the whole week in all restaurants and these where the only available tables. The effort was greatly appreciated, but the execution of the food was not the best. I would try the beach bar al a carte again, however, I would avoid the 'Japanese' as it really wasn't nice. Do not let this put you off the hotel though as the food in Jimmys buffet area was very good indeed.

We spent all of our days on the beach, and if you are into it the beach staff organise games of football, volleyball, bowls etc. If there are any lazy people who do not put their rubbish in the bins provided, a person will regularly make a sweep of the beach area and collect all rubbish. (Which should not be necessary).

The pool looked like it could do with a bit of maintenance also.

My greatest advice to anybody visiting here is to bring their own cup! We only had our drinks out of the small plastic party cups. Everybody else had bought a large Cuban mug from the shop on the hotel (sold out when we went to get one!), and so this can be a small item that will make your days lazing on the beach a bit better when you can get a larger drink.

Finally the bed arrangements are not the best for a couple. 2 large single/queen sized beds pushed together is not great.

The hotel has no WIFI which is a negative. I believe all hotels should provide free wifi to guests.

carrier and supplier:
we booked with nolitours from june 13-20 and got the villa suites. our carrier was canjet, and advice to couples travelling, let them know when checking in that they seat you together, because i did not like being seated from the other side of the row from my boyfriend! so make sure u get window seats!

hotel:
yes, it may be outdated, but the room was always clean. we stayed at the villas which are the closest to the beach. i requested for king size bed with an ocean view but the king beds are on the first floor with no view of the ocean at all.. so if u want oceanview ull get 2 double size beds in the 2nd floor, but its movable so we had no problems with that. their beds were hard to sleep in because you can actually feel the spring in the matresses. tip the maid as well before leaving your room. you get a safety deposit box for your important things.

entertainment:
you can play games there like bingo and win free 1L bottles of rum. theres always a different theme in their daily night shows at 9 pm, like miss bella costa where they just pick people out of the audience or a talent show, cuban dancing etc. advice to you who wants ocean views at the hotel, you wont be able to sleep around that time till 11 when the show is done. the shows are very entertaining.

activities and excursions:
go to as many excursions as you can! it may cost u but its certainly worth it! we tried the boat adventure with the sedu and you get to ride for 1.5 hrs, but it was fun! the varadero tour was the cheapest for 9 pesos, where you travel for 3 hours in varadero and stop at flea markets. the havana historia tour was the longest! but you get to learn about cubas history in the trip. there are many activities in the hotel as well, but beware with security guards coming to you offering cheap excursion with the taxi, because they get a cut out of that. and an important lesson that i learned, always approach the taxi first and settle with a price before getting in when youre going places because im telling you if u ask for the price after they will rip you off. alsoo.. beware of a guy offering you 20 pesos for the catamaran in the hotel water sports activities, because its free. there are also salsa lessons you can just join in.

food:
#1 tip: tip your servers well. we tipped literally every meal, alot of servers remember us and made us their priority. once we seat ourselves, they come to us first before others who sat before us. haha we felt special. i can say food was not bad, they do have salt, pepper, ketchup and tobasco sauce so no need to bring any. mayo otherwise is a little bit 'watered down' so bring some if you need it. breakfast and dinner are indoors, lunch is outdoors by the beach and there are birds flying around above you or around you. we tried every alacarte restaurants where you have to dress casually, and i can say martinos was the best. italian food in the hotel is very good. munasan though wasnt the greatest, poor service! and you only get 3 pieces of sushi that just contains a piece of lettuce or a tiny cucumber in it. let me just say, most of the food are the same throughout the week. it gets tiring at a certain point. but try the pizza during lunch they make it from scratch, you just have to wait long. advice i can give is to go early becuase whatever food you see there, sits there until its finished, and you usually eat a not so warm meal.

finally the waters:
the pool is a good size and outdated but cleaned everyday at 7pm. Jacuzzis dont work, we never tried them because they always filled with kids. the beach is just amazing!! nolitours has their exclusive section right by the villas. what i noticed in the waters was i believe jelly fishes or whatever that transluscent floating thing was when the water was calm. so we ddnt swim because it freaked us out. but when its windy, waters are clear! its a long stretch of white sands and clear waters. there are many rocky parts of the shore and some broken glasses here and there so be careful. advice i can give is always wear sunscreen unless you want your skin to peel like what happened to alot of people.

overall first vacation ever was amazing, as long as youre not picky and easily appreciate anything then go to cuba. but if youre just going to complain about everything go somewhere else.

We just travelled to Cuba and stayed at Breezes Bella Costa from June 6-13, 2013. Overall, it was a good trip! We payed just under $1400 for 2 people, for 7 days. We booked with Nolitours. When you book with Nolitours you stay in the Villas. The rooms are larger and have two balconies. In your room your welcomed with 2 cigars and a 375ml bottle of rum. Your fridge is stocked every day with beer, juice and pop. The maid service is great, we tipped a dollar each day and left a small gift (razors, perfume, purse, hygiene products, etc). There are lots of chairs by the pool and beach. You get a new beach towel each day. The food is okay. Head to the buffets early to get the freshest food. They have fresh pizza, made to order, every day at the beach buffet. The entertainment is okay during the day but it you play the games you will win a bottle of rum. The night entertainment show is always good. The bars are open 24hrs. You can take a cab into town for 7-10 dollars. Cuba is very safe. Exchange your money at the Cuba airport or the banks in town. You can exchange at your hotel but the rate isn't as good. We went on the Seafari, its was $69 per person. I really enjoyed it since I had never been on a cataraman. You went snorkeling, went to cayo Blanco beach..it was beautiful. La Rumba is the night club closest to the hotel, you can walk there in 2 minutes, it costs $10 to get in but you can buy 4 drinks for $10. So its worth it. We also went into town to the bar at Calle 62, live entertainment and drinks.
I will definitely return to Cuba.

My family and I have had a wonderful experience at this resort/hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and courteous. As a vegetarian family we also had plenty to eat and the chef was always willing to make us speical items. The dining room is run with great efficiency yet we never felt rushed. The indoor entertainment and outdoor experinces were both extremly enjoyable. My family includes to girls that are 10 and 13 and they really love this place. It's safe, homey and beautifully located on pristine beaches. We regularly travel all over the world, and stay in 5 star accomodations yet this is by far one of our favourite destinations. we have spent two visits here in the past three years, with the most recent being this past April. We are looking forward to our return trip next year! We have stayed in both the hotel portion of the resort and family suites most recently. We loved the family suites for its space and view! If you have a family and want to be able to relax with a private view of the garden or ocean, I highly recommend you say in the family suites.
The massage offered at Bella Costa too is inexpensive and very very worthwhile! Highly recommend it, even for the kids!
This is Cuba, a country that has had a lot of challenges in its development. Bearing that in mind...this is a fantastic spot and a great vacation!

Room Tip: Family Suite is the way to go!

Just back from Cuba and Breezes Bella Costa. My second year in a row to this resort. I feel a few things were even better than last year. The food was good last year and perhaps a little better this year. Good selection and variety at the buffet. Every thing was hot and fresh. Still the coffee was quite poor and no bacon to be found at breakfast but not a deal breaker.
What makes this resort stand out is the staff and management. They do a great job and many go that extra mile to make your stay more comfortable.
Only one thing to complain about was the duty free at the airport. They will over charge you if you dont know exactly what you are buying. I caught her charging me and extra 5 pesos on a $75.00 order. They mostly use calculators not cash systems so what ever number they decide is the price is what you will pay. This has gotten worse over the years at the airport. I think they believe you are leaving the country so what can you do. Even the money exchange will short you. Beware.

What can I say, this is my 4th time at this resort and I absolutely love it. I'm already planning my 5th trip there! I've written previously about this hotel and nothing's change.
Well.. the weather wasn't the greatest but I'm sure if the staff could have done something about it, they would have.
Yes, the beach. Is phenomenal, the food is amazing (lobster dinner Thursdays rock) and the staff the best ever!!

Room Tip: Get the bungalows (super saver suite) by booking with Nolitours as these are more spacious for 3 peo...
