“Great place to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

**FYI **
If you are traveling from USA and reserved your hotel online; they will NOT charge your credit card and you will have to pay in CASH; they Do NOT accept any american credit card or debit card**
We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights; a family of four with young children.
The kids loved the pool and the beach.
All you can eat buffet was pretty good; you need to find the food that you like. I went with fish and avoided the meats.
The fruits and yogurts were really good.
Breakfast was normally the best meal; specially the lady at the omelet station.
Another kudos to the cook at the fish station; he was really nice and we spoke a lot every time I order something….I'm bad with names sorry.
The staff for the most part was friendly.
You must get a chair at the beach early in the morning; they will GO fast. I'm talking 7AM.
The pool was not as crowded but; you might as well get 2 chairs by the pool also.
The drinks were awesome and so was the coffee.
They have games; a nightly show and activities thru out the day.
You can take advantage of different water activities or play a game of beach volleyball.
I did see the broken beach chairs; the staff should remove them from the beach it does not look appealing for the guest.
They don't have service at the beach; you have to walk to the Beach bar.Saludos to the lady working at the beach bar.
They do have a pool side bar; I remember Enrique and the rest of the bartenders offer a great service with a smile.
Another shout out to the music band; they were excellent. They allowed me to play the bongos and kept the music going. They are doing a great job.
Depending of where you are staying; you might be either far from the beach of far from the restaurants. In my opinion they should have more shuttles available all day & night.
The bar tenders in the mail lobby are really good too.
THey do have a small store in the hotel; by the main lobby.
Rooms are very clean and spacious; with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms.

I would recommended and will return.

We spent last week at the resort with 6 other people and truly enjoyed ourselves. The resort on the whole is great and has everything you need for a week in the sun. The food is not what we are used to in terms of seasonings, but there is always something to fill up on, and after a couple days you learn your best bets. In the main buffet there was always plenty of salad options, the made to order pasta was tasty and the boys in our group enjoyed the grilled meat station. The beach buffet had fewer options and didn't appeal as much, so we had lunch at the snack bar several days, where the veggie pizza and sandwich were both nice. The a la carte restaurants were all good, if not outstanding, but people lined up like crazy for them. The system that worked well for us was to skip the line by waiting til the 6:30 group was seated, then drop in and request a later table, return to the lobby bar, enjoy the entertainment and have dinner at 8:30 without any hassles.
The lobby bar is where the action is for cocktail hour and Nester and the boys are a show unto themselves. Fun stuff! The beach bar doesn't have the same selection, so if you prefer specialty drinks, you may need to make the trip to the lobby or the snack bar for refreshments. Mike's Coffee Shop has tons of delicious drinks, both hot and cold, but the girls working there seem more interested in talking to each other than the guests.
The rooms are a bit worn looking for a new resort, but they are clean, and the chipped grout had no affect on my vacation. The showers are the best feature. FANTASTIC !! The beds are very firm/hard, so don't expect a squashy mattress.
The beach is lovely, and we didn't have any problem with broken chairs. The fact that you have to go down about 6am to reserve chairs is crazy, but we had an early riser with us so we had no issues. The pool area is nice and doesn't get busy til later .
The shows were a nice surprise at this resort. The entertainment was of higher quality than most I've seen, and I would especially recommend the Michael Jackson and water shows.

Ocean Varadero is a beautiful, modern hotel located on a gorgeous white sand beach and boasting a huge pool with swim up bar. The beach was relaxing and peaceful. The calm, warm water was excellent for swimming. The sand was like a soft carpet under my feet. The buffet food I found was better than the a la carte and did not have to wait in line for it. If you like pasta, visit the buffet station run by Erick the pasta chef who takes great pride in his cooking and is focused on making pasta to perfection. While check in at the resort was slow and disorganized, the resort staff as a whole are friendly and helpful. The pool area never felt crowded. There were activities all afternoon and the staff were very motivating. The evening shows were typical of those at an all inclusive. The disco played a mix of Cuban and American music. The piano bar was perfect for the evenings that we wanted something different and more relaxing to end our evenings. Some tips for anyone booking this resort - bring a face cloth, get up early to get a chair at the ocean, try the coffee bar for the best coffee and smoothies at the resort and avoid the Gourmet restaurant. Altogether, it was the relaxing break that myself and my group needed and I would recommend it.

A new resort at a beautiful location . Beautiful beach . Kids loved the pool . Eat at the buffet .The food is plenty with lots of choices . Anyone complaining is too choosy .Do not change money in the hotel it will be a better deal to do it at the airport. Ants and bugs is not a big issue but the plastic sheet on the mattress was un comfortable on the days I was not drunk .

mar. 26 /14 just got back from this hotel was truly disappointed. food was terrible, broken lounges every where. from one end too far from beach or too far from restaurants. no shuttle service which should run all the time. no service by the pool or the beach unless yu walk and get it yourself. always running out of something, towels, spoons. mint etc.. Uninformative on arrival. could have shops on site. not new, its new management and they have a lot to learn yet. rooms are clean. but wont go back to it and we have travelled the carribean extensively and cuba twice.

The hotel is new, clean, the staff all around are very helpful, kind and respectful.
Unless you book the PRESTIGE package, which BTW had the worst section of the beach, you have to stand in line to book an A La Carte, and it is first come, first served. This is the first time I experienced this and found it very unfair. The dining room has a good variety, but an excellent environment for cross-contamination. One utensil can be used for 2-4 dishes. The platters are not refilled fast enough, even though staff walk past them and see that they need filling. The fruit and desserts were usually empty and messy and again, one serving utensil for all the cakes. Buffet staff very friendly. Cooks (Pasta and breakfast bar), need a bit more training and speed.
The rooms were clean, but THERE ARE ANTS. Bring a spray. The doors do not fit well, there is quite an open space between the door and the frame. The beach is nice, the pool is great.
The entertainment, although loud (why do they yell into the microphones and blast the volume?) the entertainment was very nice. The bars are great, and the BEST feature was MIKE"S CAFE. The two girls that run it need to be applauded. Great cafe, comparison to Starbucks. Would definately recommend it, would re-visit as well, but would bring my own utensils.

Room Tip: Lower level is noisier than upper level, but easier for families with children and strollers, and ea...

Since our return from this vacation it has been very busy but wanted to get this review on line. I don't believe I will add much that has not been said in other reviews but here goes.

The resort itself is wonderful, young but well maintained grounds, nicely spread out so never felt crowded. We stayed in the Priviledge area which added some nice features. Private pool, pool bar, breakfast area, lounge and small section of beach and chairs. Also in this area, depending on availability, a later check out . . . bonus for that late return flight. The ability to reserve in the ala carte restaurants is nice as well.

The food as it is said so often is ok, you can always find something to enjoy. The ala carte's were better in my opinion than the buffet's. Our best meals were in the Oriental restaurant and we simply fell in love with Amelia seen in the picture attached. She and the entire staff in the Oriental were warm and attentive.

Everyone on staff had a smile and cheery demeanour at all times.

The rooms were clean and well maintained for the most part, we did have a good downpour one evening that involved sideways rain pounding on our door which in turn ran under the door into the room but a rarity I would assume.

Being cruisers, the resort concept was a little different for us but if we chose to do a resort again, I believe we highly consider returning to the El Patriarca

Room Tip: Not sure how long it will continue but the Priviledge bungalows furthest from the main pool face ove...
