My husband and I returned from our fifth trip to Melia Las Americas on April 25. Unlike our first four trips, a friend who desperately needed a nice relaxing holiday accompanied us. The resort exceeded her expectations.
Question: Why go back to the same resort so many times?
Our answer: The resort offers everything we want for a great holiday. The location is perfect. The resort is beautiful. The beach is very nice. My husband’s favorite feature…the golf course is right next door.
Staff: Overall, the staff that we had direct contact with was really good to us. Thank you to Mercy, Katty and Cardenas (Pedro) in the buffet for giving us exceptional service. Jesus at the main reception was always pleasant and helpful. Ana Rosa in Customer Service provided great service with a smile. Our maid Teresa did her job well and her English was quite good. She even wrote a note in English to thank us for the gifts we left for her. We missed Anabel at the main pool since she has been moved to the 24-hour bar. Last but not least, a thank you to Reynaldo for making sure our vacation was just as wonderful as the previous ones.
Food: The buffet is one of the best that I have experienced in Varadero. There are lots of cheeses, cold cuts, salad fixings, fruit, pasta, other hot foods and desserts. Even our friend who is a confessed picky eater found food she liked. She loved the roast chicken and pasta bar. Although she was originally from Nova Scotia, she hates seafood. On the other hand, I loved the grilled shrimps. I was looking forward to the grilled lobster at the gourmet restaurant but had to pass on it because the reservation was on the same evening as the repeaters dinner. I would not miss the repeater dinner because management at the resort puts on a really great dinner for returning guests.
We were only able to go to two of the four a la carte restaurants because of a mix-up in reservations. We enjoyed the Japanese and Italian restaurants very much.
Accommodations: We were in a bungalow junior suite near the bungalow pool. We had a comfortable king sized bed. The closet was very large. The living room was quite spacious. Sliding doors opened up to a patio with table and two chairs.
Pools: Very clean. I like the pool close to our bungalow. You can get a drink at the swim up bar or grab some food at the snack bar nearby. The bali beds around the two main pools are a wonderful addition. Unfortunately, they get taken up quite fast .
What happened to all those blue rubber floating mattresses?
Suggestion: I’m diabetic and could not drink the soft drinks in the mini fridge. I had to go to the plaza to buy diet cola because the store at the resort did not have any diet soft drinks. Perhaps diet soft drinks will be available on our next trip?
Looking forward to our next trip to the Melia Las Americas.
